CJ-Freeway Old-Timey Member Posted May 31, 2016 Posted May 31, 2016 6.88 BB/9 cough He's an older Steve Delabar Jesus, that's horrible.
z3r0s Old-Timey Member Posted May 31, 2016 Posted May 31, 2016 wow, Braves eating most of the money too. Nice little bonus, basically makes the move a free gamble.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted May 31, 2016 Posted May 31, 2016 If he finds what he used to have then he can be a good catch for what i am guessing is pretty cheap. That's fine but you're asking him to do his "finding" at the MLB level and that can be a real liability for a team with eyes on contention. I think you need to already have a reasonable idea what's going on with him and how to fix it to make this worthwhile. He's 39 year old so him simply hitting the wall seems probable. I like the trade fine on paper but I'd like to know what kind of plan they have to make this work. Maybe just hope he figures it out and otherwise just DFA him when one of Schultz or Cecil comes back?
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted May 31, 2016 Posted May 31, 2016 Coming off a major injury and was horrible in April as he was perhaps shaking the dust off. In May he's got a 3.84 xFIP with a 12.34 K/9 and a 3.86 BB/9. Jays only paying the MLB minimum salary, the Braves are paying the rest. Assuming the prospect we gave up was a nobody I like this deal. EDIT: He's also dominating right handed batters to the tune of a .265 wOBA.
BTS Community Moderator Posted May 31, 2016 Posted May 31, 2016 I like this. He was basically free so why not? Also worth noting: he has a 3M team option for 2017 that could come into play if he settles in nicely this year.
bones10 Old-Timey Member Posted May 31, 2016 Posted May 31, 2016 Just realized this guy is 39 years old lmao.

If his May is a sign of things to come that team option would be very handy.
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted May 31, 2016 Posted May 31, 2016 Decent move addressing our biggest need for essentially free.

Coming off an injury not completely uncommon for him to take a bit to get going. The move is very low risk i don't see how it can hurt us.
fatcowxlive Old-Timey Member Posted May 31, 2016 Posted May 31, 2016 King who's the guy we gave up? Is he any good?
bones10 Old-Timey Member Posted May 31, 2016 Posted May 31, 2016 "Fire up the Grill" - Gibbons bottom of the 8th bases loaded nobody out in tonight's game.

Laika Community Moderator Posted May 31, 2016 Posted May 31, 2016 It might look meh right now but really, this is the type of trade that smart bullpens are made of.

gbill2004 Verified Member Posted May 31, 2016 Posted May 31, 2016 I had him on my fantasy baseball team once, so that's gotta count for something, right?
intentional wok Old-Timey Member Posted May 31, 2016 Posted May 31, 2016 Just realized this guy is 39 years old lmao. I was going to say that it feels like Grilli has been around forever... but I guess that's because he has. If he can get his BBs under control he sounds like he could be a pretty solid late inning option. Considering the back-end is Osuna + Floyd-Biagini experiment + a struggling Cecil, another option is always good if Storen can't put it together.
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted May 31, 2016 Posted May 31, 2016 Excellent move also Grilling pitched best when he pitches to Martin
Cyborg Verified Member Posted May 31, 2016 Posted May 31, 2016 The huge drop in velo is concerning, but Steamer knows about it and still projects for 3.24 ERA in ATL.

burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted May 31, 2016 Posted May 31, 2016 Like the move, he should be an upgrade over Tepera at least. Hopefully he is only used in low leverage situations to start though. I could see Gibby throwing him out there for the 8th inning right away because of "experience"
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted May 31, 2016 Posted May 31, 2016 I could see Gibby throwing him out there for the 8th inning right away because of "experience" Well considering how everyone else has done, can he really do much worse?
