Laika Community Moderator Posted April 21, 2016 Posted April 21, 2016 Has Colabello even arguably hit one baseball hard this year?
nmrch Verified Member Posted April 21, 2016 Posted April 21, 2016 Smoak is K'ing more than 50% of the time and doesn't have an extra base hit, he's no more a solution than Colabello. Get rid of them both along with Carrerra, call up Pompey and get the best bench bat available.

The 25-man needs to be purged of s*** that probably should have never been retained in the offseason: I never want to see any of Colabello, Smoak, Thole or Carrera after this season.
admin Site Manager Posted April 21, 2016 Posted April 21, 2016 Gibbons will keep throwing Colabello out there until someone else takes action.

That's a big challenge Shapiro and Atkins have right now, rebuilding the depth on the 40 man and in BUF so we don't feel compelled to carry these bums.

Just giving the opposing team too many auto-outs. They must lick their chops when they get to those guys.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted April 21, 2016 Posted April 21, 2016 Buffalo needs a cleanup hitter. Bag your clothes, bat and glove Colabello

Depth will be more than a challenge next year.

They should purge Saunders too while they're at it amirite. According to you he never should have been retained in the offseason.
Laika Community Moderator Posted April 21, 2016 Posted April 21, 2016 Compare Tampa Bay's bench to Toronto's: Brandon Guyer - destroys lefties and plays all 3 OF spots Steve Pearce - destroys lefties and can play OF corners and 1B, also 2B in a pinch Tim Beckham - athletic young SS viable product of the system Hank Conger - can do stuff Guyer, Beckham, and Pearce all complement someone else in the lineup as a platoon option. Josh Thole - can't do stuff Darwin Barney - the only one I see value in; good IF defender and you need one Justin Smoak - he can pick it! and switch hits! Ezequil Carrera - can't do anything

I don't actually believe I ever said that. I said the team should have enough depth that they're not relying on his knee holding up and not impacting his play. But you're trolling me, so plz die.

I recall you saying he should be 5th OF, not released

BTS Community Moderator Posted April 21, 2016 Posted April 21, 2016 I recall you saying he should be 5th OF, not released Yeah, that sounds right. I wanted all of Revere, Pompey, and Saunders around because nobody had any idea what to expect from Saunders or Pompey.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted April 21, 2016 Posted April 21, 2016 Is Pompey up to RF, Bautista to 1B/DH (whichever he complains about less) too obvious, or just me?
Laika Community Moderator Posted April 21, 2016 Posted April 21, 2016 Is Pompey up to RF, Bautista to 1B/DH (whichever he complains about less) too obvious, or just me? It's becoming apparent that he actually can't throw anymore so yes should do.

Bautista will throw a fit and Gibbons is too afraid of him to force the move on him. Shapiro and Atkins will have to step in but would they want to get into a fight with Bautista right now?

Would Bautista to LF and Saunders to 1B make more sense? Bautista still gets pretty good jumps on the ball and Saunders looks like he can barely move out there. I feel like Saunders would be a lot better at 1B too.

Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted April 21, 2016 Author Posted April 21, 2016 I'm pretty sure Bautista has been playing with a partial tear in his shoulder ever since the ill-advised Delmon Young throw. He use to throw rockets before, he can't put anything on it these days.

I would be amicable to this as a compromise. Bautista to DH is probably not going to happen in a free agent year where he expects to get paid like he's 25.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted April 21, 2016 Posted April 21, 2016 I'm going to say May 3. I'm saying never, he has options, meat.
THANOS Old-Timey Member Posted April 21, 2016 Posted April 21, 2016 Send him down and call-up Montero if they want to wait on Pompey. Let's see if Montero gets hot and BABIP's his way to a great year like Cola did in 2015. The benefit is Cola can try to work through these slumps in AAA instead of hurting the big team, and if he doesn't, at least he's off the roster.

He use to throw rockets before, he can't put anything on it these days. I think he's fine physically judging from his numbers at the plate. He probably just realized that he's an older player going into a contract year and that ridiculous play cost him a lot of time (and could have been worse). Also he was a bat only player even at that point so really why bother trying to maybe gun down 4-5 guys in a season? Need to see him throw more though, that one throw he made to Goins at cutoff was pretty suspect.

He use to throw rockets before, he can't put anything on it these days. There was a period where he clearly seemed to get better though. Towards the end of last season, the rocket arm was back. This must be a new injury or he re-aggravated that old injury somehow.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted April 21, 2016 Posted April 21, 2016 Would Bautista be open to playing 1B for a stretch??? Call up Pompey and be done with Colabello? I like this suggestion guys.
