fatcowxlive Old-Timey Member Posted October 25, 2016 Posted October 25, 2016 BTS selectively left out the part where atkins praised Jose's defense and mentioned wanting him back with mutual interest He never said that? Let me ask you a question, if the media asks you about arguably the best Blue Jay Position's player's ability in anyway, would you say the cold honest truth and face a PR nightmare? I think not. JP Riccardi was a prime example of a guy being harsh, but honest, on a player who wasn't even a Jay (Adam Dunn) and I remember that caused issues.
King Old-Timey Member Posted October 25, 2016 Posted October 25, 2016 Depends on what he meant by effective.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted October 25, 2016 Posted October 25, 2016 I could definitely see Liriano being used as an Andrew Miller type of guy in the regular season, with the capability of being stretched out of course if and when we need a 5th starter. We'll see how he feels about it though, he might lose a bit of money. Maybe not once you see what Chapman and Jensen get...
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted October 25, 2016 Posted October 25, 2016 Depends on what he meant by effective. Yeah I mean when he's 100% healthy (which is hardly ever these days), I think he can be serviceable but the problem is that you just can't bank on that and expect to be be an effective outfielder for anything more than short spurts.

While I tend to agree with the first part of your post, answering an objective questions about your own players abilities is a hell of a lot different than coming out and attacking the drive and passion of another teams player. Saying he doesn't even like the sport is completely subjective, it's ridiculous to even compare those situations.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted October 25, 2016 Posted October 25, 2016 I can't see Castro signing here, he'll be starting for someone. It'd be nice, but that's a pipe dream.
VE2OH Verified Member Posted October 25, 2016 Posted October 25, 2016 I don't even think Gruber would agree with what you said. Think about that. Have a good day

Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted October 26, 2016 Posted October 26, 2016 - "Looking for back-up catcher who can handle our pitching staff, be a leader, give a productive at-bat." Did Shapiro just hold up a sign of David Ross?
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted October 26, 2016 Posted October 26, 2016 Kendrys Morales is going to opt out for sure. KC is real tight on money. With the number of options in the FA market, Morales probably doesn't get a qualifying offer. No way they will pay $18Mil to retain him. On the other end, If I am Morales I am pretty sure I can get more than $11M in free agency. I could see Shatkins seeing him as a potentiol 1B/DH option. Switch hitter really pounds right handed pitching, .930 OPS as a lefty. Really really good fit between Donaldson and Bautista (assuming he is coming back)
BlueRocky Old-Timey Member Posted October 26, 2016 Posted October 26, 2016 Any potential for his offense to be back @ 2015 levels?

Captain Adama Old-Timey Member Posted October 26, 2016 Posted October 26, 2016 Chris Iannetta? Eh, his skills as a piss-poor framer are a bit of a turn-off, especially as a back-up catcher.
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted October 26, 2016 Posted October 26, 2016 Did Shapiro just hold up a sign of David Ross? He's retiring at the end of the year lol.
King Old-Timey Member Posted October 26, 2016 Posted October 26, 2016 I don't know how reliable the catcher framing metrics are for AA/AAA, but Reese McGuire and A.J. Jimenez both rated out poorly among catchers at those levels and MLB. McGuire at 348 and Jimenez at 356 out of 406 catchers http://www.baseballprospectus.com/sortable/index.php?cid=1899933

Lefty, elite framer and major offensive breakout after a change in approach.

jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted October 26, 2016 Posted October 26, 2016 Eh, his skills as a piss-poor framer are a bit of a turn-off, especially as a back-up catcher. I thought I read an article a while back that he improved his pitch framing a couple of years ago? Haven't really been following him so could be mistaken. Offensively, he'd be a solid backup who has some pop and can get on-base. Though if his framing is pretty poor, probably best to look at other options. Other interesting options are Hank Conger & Alex Avila. How is Nick Hundley as a framer? Yan Gomes could be a trade candidate in Cleveland possibly with the heroics of Roberto Perez in the postseason. Shapiro is familiar with Gomes, so he might be an option if he wouldn't cost much via trade. Crazy how he posted 3.3 and 4.4 WAR seasons in 2013 & 2014.
