You guys make a big deal out of nothing, honestly.

It almost sounds like JD was replaced by Andy Burns at 3B when someone reads this thread.

When it comes to arb salaries for relievers the two biggest criteria are ERA and saves. Letting Storen get the saves this year and then leave via free agency would help keep Osuna's arb salary down.

Not to mention just being a set up man is not likely going to garner you a pick.

We were never going to QO Storen, you guys are putting the cart before the horse. He's not even close to good enough to warrant a $14M offer, hence he would gladly accept it and there would be no pick for us in any case.

Ultimately this is on Shapiro. Bucks got to stop somewhere. He needs to reign in Gibby's decisions on roster spots when he is intent on snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.

Why blame Shapiro? Did you blame Beeston for roster decisions? This is on Atkins if anyone. He comes off as a bagless libtard so he's going to fit in perfectly in Toronto.

I have nothing against Atkins, but he really does seem like the loser lovechild of Dwight from The Office and Jon Cryer.

Yeah, I'm not sure Storen was a QO candidate to begin with. As a closer it would have been at least a faint possibility if he had a crazy season, but other than David Robertson, has any reliever been given a QO? I'm sure Chapman will get one, but it seems reserved for the super elite. Seems pretty unlikely Storen would have fell into that category even with a 40 save season, but who knows.

It's just such a big year. Why compromise your chances to win even a game or two with poor roster choices?

Well, Tepera is probably gone once Estrada or Loup come back from injury. Leon is probably the other casualty in that scenario. So yeah, not a huge deal there. But Carrera's going to play a lot (injuries, off days, etc). He's going to hurt the team.

none of this matters very much

except zeke

thats bad

Bingo. Ceciliani should have gotten the job, not because he's great but because Carrera is complete and utter refuse. The rest is pretty much immaterial. I would have liked to see Venditte over Tepera but it's not like Venditte can really punch anybody out.

f*** Dom or Lake is likely better then Carrera, however you say injuries my guess is if an outfielder gets injured we likely see Pompey.

Venditte is just two replacement level relievers rolled into one. I don't think he is good, or even a decent LOOGY like people hope

On average, the 4th OFer plays the equivalent of 162 full games a year - luckily we still have Ceciliani and Pompey if one of our OFers needs something more than a day off for rest. Carrera is s***, end of rant.

Rafael Soriano declined a QO from the Yanks a few years ago. Storen was never likely to get one, but 45 saves and a sub-3 ERA would have taken the probability to something greater than 0. Oh well, not a huge deal.

That said - it must be devastating to work your ass off all offseason and all spring, only to watch a steaming pile of s*** get the job over you. I hope Ceciliani is head strong. I hope the FO had a very good conversation with him....explain that he's significantly better than Carrera and this is a just an "options" thing to help maintain organizational depth.

I have no love for Zeke, but I understand the decision to make him 4th outfielder. I'm guessing he plays 1-2 games in April, guys don't need a day off yet, so why waste The Italian guy in the bench when you can use April to properly evaluate him in AAA. If someone gets injured, him or Pompey gets called up and Zeke continues to rot on the bench.

I think he's probably a decent loogy but I had my doubts that he would be used properly if included on the roster. The switch pitching thing is such a cool novelty that you can easily imagine it seducing a manager into giving him too much non-loogy work. Ultimately, the loogy job is Loup's anyways.

29 years old + 45 saves (2nd best team in baseball) + 2.90 ERA = 4Yrs/50M

I don't hate this idea, but I really only think it should be used to measure players who will have more impact. Does the 4th OF role truly need such a careful eye? How bad could Ceciliani be that it's worth rostering Carrera for 1/6th of the season? I get that some might want to maintain Carrera as depth, but at some point you just need to cut the line on a guy who doesn't meaningfully help. Is Carrera such a loss to the back-up OF role that Lake, Brown, Ceiliani, and Pompey aren't depth enough?

Perhaps they want Ceciliani to play more and hopefully get going before calling him up to replace Carrera. The beginning of the season they players will not be resting much and it might be harder for Ceciliani to get on the roll that we need him to when we actually do have to start resting our outfielders.

45 saves (2nd best team in baseball)

Don't closers on mediocre teams get more saves? Every team in baseball is going to win at least 60 games, but our offence puts us in a lot of huge leads where saves don't apply.

Gibby can't use Loup properly as a LOOGY - there was no way he'd use Venditte only as a LOOGY.
