Ugh...That's gross

I know :(

Navarro, Goins, Smoak and Pompey was a more useful bench

(though I understand why we don't have Pompey in the bigs, and Goins becomes primary utility IF when Travis is back)

Arnold Leon can go multiple innings, so if one of our starters completely shits the bed in the next week or so we won't have to burn many relievers this early on. I guess I can get on board with that. Tepera too, but I would have liked Venditte.

I hearing reports that Travis may be out until August

We had years of people bitching about AA's handling of depth and filling out the last few roster spots. While that may have been warranted, here's a case of the grass being greener on the other side.

No problem releasing Delabar, but the team has to bend over backwards to keep Carrera.

Tepera makes the team but Hutchison does not, all in an effort to assure Sanchez a starting job.

And this stuff is happening in a win year. Let's just hope that by the time May roles around the injured players are back, no one else gets injured and these roster anomalies sort themselves out.

Don't closers on mediocre teams get more saves? Every team in baseball is going to win at least 60 games, but our offence puts us in a lot of huge leads where saves don't apply.

It's relative. I prefer to be a closer in an 90-100 wins team. I really love 3 runs lead.

BP arms move up and down all the time. I can live with this BP as is. Tepara and Venditte will be up and down all year probably.

It's Carerra that's bothering me, nothing else really

Perhaps they want Ceciliani to play more and hopefully get going before calling him up to replace Carrera. The beginning of the season they players will not be resting much and it might be harder for Ceciliani to get on the roll that we need him to when we actually do have to start resting our outfielders.

But then he'll just be sitting 3/4 games when he comes up anyway. I just don't see any meaningful way to defend picking Carrera over Ceciliani when there are still three depth pieces in AAA even if dump Carrera. With the set up the Jays have, just take the best guy for the bench.

Hutchison has no business being in the BP though, we need an arm that can be called upon from AAA when the inevitable hits. Carrera making the team over Ceciliani is such a joke, I really didn't care where that guy ended up as long as it wasn't on our starting roster.

Why does everyone presume Travis will automatically take over from Goins ?

I think he might have been suggesting Hutch in the rotation, Sanchez in the pen - Tepera in outer space.

I think several reasons; Travis has already proven he can provide a consistent bat in the bigs and he's a much better lead off option for this team than anyone we have without disrupting the order. Goins provides a more flexible defensive option as a utility player and most are still skeptical of his bat.

Yes

Hutch as AAA depth is nice

He doesn't like it but whetever. We can use him like thisnas long as he has options. That's just hownit works.

Smoak = Smoak

Barney = Goins (not a popular opining but I really think they're basically the same guy)

I don't really like Navarro but it's not hard to be better than Thole and Pompey is obviously a lot better than Zeke.

We all knew it was down to Sanchez of Floyd pretty early on though.

ftfy...if we're comparing what we started last year with.....errr maybe Colabello wasn't on the team...actually, he wasn't - who was?

Hutchison could be #5 and Sanchez in the pen. Both improvements on the current situation.

I agree, though there was never an indication Hutch was in the running for the 5th after about week 1.

Italian Blue Jays!

Ceciliani, Colabello, Venditte, Biagini (I'm assuming Ceciliani and Venditte will be full timers eventually)

Keep on bringing in the GREEN, WHITE, AND RED!

none of this matters very much

except zeke

thats bad

If they use Tepera as a LHH specialist that will matter and be a disaster. I have no idea how he is on the team. One of the worst pitchers vs LHH yet they use him in that role.

He friggen had options too so there really is no excuse for him to make the team over Venditte.

Two of those are directly, 100% Gibbons. The other two were certainly at Gibbons' request with the FO signing off (which they shouldn't have).

This is BS

Hopefully it's just semantics but Smoak should not be considered a bench piece. Cola should be, just by virtue of being on the lean end of the 1B platoon. Hopefully the semantics aren't what will be practiced.

And for comparison, the Cubs are going to have Solar and Baez (when healthy) on their bench.

You don't believe that Gibbons chose his closer and leadoff hitter, or that he requested Carrera and Tepera for his bench?
