It would be awesome if statistics could foretell the future. Bye bye world problems.

A thousand times regulars on here have pointed to Sanchez minor league stats and proclaim 'he suxxx', 'trade him while he still has value'. Just f***ing dumb.

1. Also major league stats

2. Yes, because his entire body of work does not support the hype. I guess you're not a fan of considering realistic likely outcomes? No one said "trade Sanchez for a bag of balls" only "try to trade Sanchez for something nice while his perceived value is still high because it's likely he won't be anything special." This remains true.

3. You're making assessments based on NINE (9) SPRING TRAINING innings where he has never gone past 4 innings? We already know he can be effective over short stints. Who is "f***ing dumb" now?

No one takes projections as absolutes. That's just your own inability to comprehend anything in between black and white.

More questions I have after reading this thread:

-Is Hazel into anal?

-If so, do you think Aaron gave her a dirty Sanchez?

Yes and yes.

Sanchez today:

8.0% SwStr (meh, MLB starter average is 9.3%)

77.7% GB% (elite)

Where'd you get this info, also do you know of a site that tracks ST velo?

I was mostly asleep on my couch while this was on, but when I actually had my eyes open it looked like both Sanchez and Floyd were genuinely good today (against the Rays tryouts). True? False?

if he hasn't established himself as a regular MLB starter by the 2018 season, safe to say he never will

18'... not sure if serious?

This happens far too often on this forum.

True.

I'm trying to create an app that filters out Jeff Blair from the broadcast.

I can sense the anger and frustration in this post. It's OK to be wrong now and then.

They are presented as such all the time on this board.

They arent. But traditionalists tend to interpret things differently that rational people.

What you just said should be applied to the supporters of analytics who use them as absolutes.

Nobody uses them as absolutes except when obviosly trolling the entrenched anti-analytics dinosaur crowd. That happens all the time because it's easy and fun.

The problem is with individual people who see anything presented relating to analytics as being presented as an absolute, when that's not the case, but that individuals perception is flawed.

Literally and figuratively... :P

Then point to anything in Sanchez's minor or major league track record that actually suggests he is capable of taking the next step.

Analytics or not, Sanchez has yet to harness his tools. Expecting a sudden leap based on nothing but a narrative of "well he's young so he should improve, right?" that another poster suggested doesnt make any sense.

That's not analytics or even traditional thinking, it's just blind hope.

He still has the same running fastball he can't really command, a curve that isn't effective enough and a changeup that's basically useless because of his poor fastball command. That lack of effectiveness from his secondary pitches is a large reason why he doesnt miss bats. He's working on a cutter, which would help him alot if it's becomes reliable to actually have a pitch that moves to his glove side and that he can keep inside to lefties, but fastball command is still the big problem.

Seeing Sanchez putting on weight and the work he did in the offseason is a start for a reason to think he has improved. Although a small sample his results in ST are encouraging regarding the command.

That's just it though, small samples in spring training are essential meaningless especially this early when half the hitters he faces are A ball guys.

I see his putting on weight and working on a cutter as evidence that he realizes what he needs to do to improve, not that improvement is imminent. It's step 1 of like ... 20

But that is really all we have to go by right now? Like he said this is his first season where he feels balanced on the mount and his mechanics are in line.

Oh c'mon.. While I agree that analytics should not be perceived as an absolute, but as a guideline, there are many personalities on this board that use the analytic tool as a slam dunk analysis. This is what is creating the intense debating. Some people feel they can see by watching the body work of a player that he can improve on his MiLB or early MLB numbers, while others use these numbers as a CONCRETE GUIDELINE.

Look how long the "Can Ryan Goins stick" thread went on for. I'll have to admit though that the majority of the time the numbers usually play out,but as an overwhelming majority.

That was trolling at its finest.

He's in the MLB and is here to stay, regardless of the Travis situation. You and the rest of the f***tards who were absolutely sure he'd be selling hot dogs at this point can suck s***.

"His bat still suxxxxxxxxx"

LOLLLLLLLLLLLLL.. What do you do for a living again?

GFY about some other $50. I lost the Dickey bet with you and paid you straight up. I don't know WTF you're harping about.

You're right man. 9 innings is enough.
