Governator Community Moderator Posted December 3, 2015 Posted December 3, 2015 AA's offer, five years $90M. "There was plenty of dialogue between us but ultimately things fell a part when their desire was to sign a 7 year contract that we weren't comfortable with. We were willing to add more annual value for less years but just couldn't make ground. Sometimes the dollars & years just don't make sense and you have to make tough decisions. We feel very confident with our internal options at this point and will continue to look for ways to improve the club, whether that's from the FA market or trades that make sense to us." - AA

Governator Community Moderator Posted December 3, 2015 Posted December 3, 2015 "But this much is known: Toronto would have offered Price a contract." He went from sources say AA was preparing an offer to assume that means 100% they would have offered him a contract. That's a bunch of ********, if so an offer he would laugh at maybe... there's absolutely no way Rogers would have matched the Red Sox on that deal and there's no way Price wasn't hitting the market looking to maximize on his guaranteed return.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted December 3, 2015 Posted December 3, 2015 This if hilarious but I have to admit I do the same thing. I just have no appetite for telling people why I think everything they believe about baseball is wrong and that would pretty much be the starting point for a any meaningful conversation. Christ - I wish I could do this. I guess it doesn't really apply to me because: 1. I'm introverted and rarely ever converse with random strangers (because I hate people in general); and 2. Everybody I know or work with knows I'm a baseball guy. It's so hard not to be a massive prick to everyone. I'm typically like "didn't we all agree when the Jays got Price that he was a rental and there was almost no chance we'd re-sign him? Why are you surprised and/or angry at this?" Then they typically start telling me how Happ is trash and the Jays are going to suck and I just leave the room. Sometimes I'll bark back that Happ was the 28th best starting pitcher in the majors last year and then walk away shaking my head. That doesn't seem to go over well, but whatever.....people can't hate on facts.

There are many posters here more knowledgeable than me in different areas, but its shocking sometimes where less obsessed casual fans come from on topics like Kevin Pillar, AA or signing Price, for example. There is 0 point in engagement most times. No upside. They are a dog driving a car on baseball.

If you get all your information from say Tim & Sid, if you consider that kind of reporting authorative to any extent, what kind of an opinion are you going to develop on the subjects they discuss? It's just such a weak starting point. Communities like this really isolate us from that reality to the point that commonly held opinions are often immediately called out as trolling here when it's just as likely to be sincere and often isn't any worse than what a lot of so called authorities in media are spouting. I hate talking to acquaintances about baseball. I have a lot of friends who really follow hockey, I follow enough to keep up in conversations. I get really annoyed when friends say things like "It doesn't matter how much you pay them 3 years from now if you win once!" in regards to baseball moves, when I suggest trades and signings in hockey that I think would be bad they lose their s*** because I don't understand hockey. How I wish they could see it from my perspective.

Very true. Case in point the story this am about "AA would have offered Price a contract" = Baseless drivel. As many times as some posters like to call other posters "dumb" or worse on this board, the reality is that the vast majority of the posters here know more about the game overall than the avg casual fan when it comes to matters like assessing value, stats or more minor matters like how little things like Gold Gloves really mean. (I cant believe how many friends have mentioned how mad they are Pillar didn't get one. They don't know even who KK is). That not to sound elitist. Fans don't have to be this obsessed to enjoy the game, and I don't have to talk ball with them. That's why I read and post on here more than I talk to other humans about ball. I'm already addicted enough to the game so I purposely avoid fantasy leagues and getting too deep into prospects etc but you can pick up all you want from reading this Board on that front.

Listening to Buck and Pat if you are getting to know baseball will make you think pitching wins are one of the more important stats. You can only learn what you are taught.

vdubmvp Old-Timey Member Posted December 3, 2015 Posted December 3, 2015 1. I'm introverted and rarely ever converse with random strangers (because I hate people in general) My kind of person. The worst is when it's someone who admits they're just a bandwagon fan, and also says that you know far more than them, yet they'll still try to engage you in stupid arguments where they're so obviously wrong.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted December 3, 2015 Posted December 3, 2015 Not likely a competitive one vs STL/BOS 5 years, 140 million which he would have laughed at.

I hate talking to acquaintances about baseball. Part of me wishes this is how it was for me, but it's too late for that since everyone who knows me is aware of my obsession with baseball. After the trade deadline, suddenly everyone had to talk to me about the Jays, and it was pretty unbearable. Then after Donaldson won the Hank Aaron award, someone was like "well, at least Donaldson won something" and I was like "he's going to win the MVP soon..." and they were like "I don't know, it might be Bautista." They were actually serious. I don't want to have those conversations with people anymore.

Nafro Verified Member Posted December 3, 2015 Posted December 3, 2015 I find a few things about this off-season entertaining. Jays fans have been played by the American media (I guess everybody gets manipulated by the American propaganda machine). The story that the Blue Jays were "all in" on Price when they didn't offer him a contract...clearly lies created to drive the contract up. Morosi saying AA was working on an extension offer while failing to acknowledge that the previous management had a 5 year maximum length of contract. Its unfortunate the general fans are so easily manipulated by morons.
