dineke Old-Timey Member Posted December 1, 2015 Posted December 1, 2015 If Price opts out in 3 years this would be a good deal for the sox I guess, hopefully Price loses 3 mph on his fastball next year.

vanland Verified Member Posted December 1, 2015 Posted December 1, 2015 Bye David. f***ing awesome having you pitch here. Your first game envoked some of the best feelings I've ever experienced watching this game. And I've seen a lot. What a year 2015 was! But the BoSox are mad. And they are very beatable.
Praxis Verified Member Posted December 1, 2015 Posted December 1, 2015 Is it true that we didn't even table an offer?
Laika Community Moderator Posted December 1, 2015 Posted December 1, 2015 Is it true that we didn't even table an offer? What would the point of an offer have been? Public relations? lol
bendera3 Verified Member Posted December 1, 2015 Posted December 1, 2015 Is it true that we didn't even table an offer? We offered 3/36 to Price and Happ and said whoever accepts first gets it.
CJ-Freeway Old-Timey Member Posted December 1, 2015 Posted December 1, 2015 What would the point of an offer have been? Public relations? lol Maybe they should've made a public offer for PR reasons, come to think of it... Now that we're seeing how the casuals are losing their s*** on twitter lol
Candide Verified Member Posted December 1, 2015 Posted December 1, 2015 THAT lineup scored 891 runs last year. Even if it regresses slightly, it's still one of the most dangerous lineups in baseball. yeah ok!! it can score 1,000 runs next season but this pathetic team - even if they squeak into the playoffs - will have no chance against the Red Sox in a 7 game series against DAVID PRICE for 2 and possibly 3 games. have you seen how lights out he was for us in the playoffs! even if stroman faces price and they split 1-1, do you really think guys like Donaldson/Bautista/Encarnacion/Martin/Tulowitzki/Revere/Travis/Collabello can even match up against the likes of Porcello and Buchholz in a best of 5 game series without equally good pitching?! Clay Buchholz is the ace everyone assumed the Red Sox didn't have in 2015 and now they have TWO ACES. that's two aces away from the highest hand in poker!
Inklink Old-Timey Member Posted December 1, 2015 Posted December 1, 2015 Way to go DUMNbrowski. Someone was going to pay out the ridiculous money, and it turned out to be him. Happy for Price, the last couple of months of the season were absolutely amazing and he had a lot to do with it. But I hope the Red Sox regret every penny of this contract.

jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted December 1, 2015 Posted December 1, 2015 Is it really that much? Is there a break down that says as much? According to Baseball Reference, including arb raises, pre-arb players, and the addition of Young and Price's contracts, they'll be at $205M or so (still waiting for them to add the Young and Price deals). Before the deals, they were at $169.2M-- they'll blow through the tax. And BTW, they're looking at escalating tax bills next season--they were over the tax this season, and are looking at a 20% bill in 2016, 30% in 2017, if current payroll holds.

Buchholz can't stay healthy. And Porcello was garbage in 2015. And another thing, Price can't win in the playoffs, no matter where he is. Did you even watch him in the playoffs?
Rajais Mitten Verified Member Posted December 1, 2015 Posted December 1, 2015 Knew from the start there was a very slim chance he would be back, but I mean it being Boston just really sucks. Let's hope he doesnt hurt us during the season. Really wish we would sign someone also like a shark, really hate how we always seem to be so close with this team only for them to half-ass s*** at the end.

admin Site Manager Posted December 1, 2015 Posted December 1, 2015 lol @ all the new Jays fans pissed that we didn't sign him. $31M/year makes the Jays not getting him a little easier to deal with. If it was less years and less money, I'd have been on the fence about the Jays ponying up for him. With that contract I'm fine with the Jays not getting him. Boston will now go after another one or two pitchers and look pretty good this year. Shark + Kazmir? Zach Greinke is smiling right now.
ComeTogether Verified Member Posted December 1, 2015 Posted December 1, 2015 Anyone now applying 'hindsight' on the Price trade really didn't fully grasp that he was never coming back. Heard on radio that Jays didn't offer him a contract.

BTS Community Moderator Posted December 1, 2015 Posted December 1, 2015 I love how the casuals are freaking out even though the offseason to date has gone exactly how anyone paying attention would have expected.
Pulk_Pull Verified Member Posted December 1, 2015 Posted December 1, 2015 Heard on radio that Jays didn't offer him a contract. I'm sure they sat down with him or floated numbers to his agent. Once they were told they were WAY off in terms of years and money, there was no reason to offer a formal contract. Heck, I bet this happened IN season and they went into the offseason knowing it was never going to happen. The Toronto love BS was great value building but ultimately so transparent. The fact that the org didn't respond to any of the reports told you all you needed to know about how the Jays felt about their chances on bringing back Price.

Happy for Price, the last couple of months of the season were absolutely amazing and he had a lot to do with it. But I hope the Red Sox regret every penny of this contract. this is probably the most balanced view i've see so far ITT; i understand the "betrayal" and all the rogers hatred on one end and the "i wish him luck, aw shucks it couldn't happen to a nicer guy" on the other; for me, this post captures it all - let's hope he/Price fails - let's hope this cripples the Sox even more all at the same time acknowledging what Price did for the city this past summer and above all be happy for price as a person that he's set up for life and then some...
Pulk_Pull Verified Member Posted December 2, 2015 Posted December 2, 2015 Say what u want but the Sox got a lot f***ing better today and the Jays officially got worse! How did they 'officially' get worse? Price had no ties to this team anymore, whatsoever. Are we taking into account how the Jays got 'officially' better when they resigned Estrada and brought in Happ? Red Sox got better, for sure, but I'd avoid tying any form of subtraction from the Jays to this deal.... unless you somehow thought he was coming back.
AdamGreenwood Old-Timey Member Posted December 2, 2015 Posted December 2, 2015 and above all be happy for price as a person that he's set up for life and then some... Yeah, I was really worried about his financial future before this deal.

And another thing, Price can't win in the playoffs, no matter where he is. Did you even watch him in the playoffs? in all seriousness, the Red Sox obviously get better in 2016 with Price - certainly good enough to contend given the continued expected improvement of guys like Boegaerts, Betts, and Holt. but they still need more help in their lineup and at least one more quality arm in their starting and relief staff. I would be more worried if they landed Shark and Madsen, not only because it bolsters their roster, but also because I think those are the two remaining holes that the Jays probably need to achieve the same success that they did last season. Having Stroman for a full season will offset some of Price's loss - having Travis back by May and assuming no massive regression will help. Stockpiling guaranteed 1-1.5 WAR guys in Estrada and Happ will also help. But I think the Jays need one more #3 arm like Samardzija, Madsen, and the hope that a Chavez/Sanchez combo can combine for 2.0 WAR next season. Still feeling really good about this squad next year - it's how they're looking going into 2017 and 2018 that scares me.

They don't need anything else. 1-7 is very solid, and traditional. Price Buchholz Porcello Rodriguez Miley Kelly/Owens/Johnson They also have a robust offense, a couple of elite relievers, and minor league depth. Nothing really left for them to do except try to unload the bad Hanley/Panda contracts if they can.

But Boston is not guaranteed to improve-- we all saw what happened with the HanRam/Sandoval deals. Yes, Betts and Bogaerts should get better.. not so on Holt, as he is no more than a bench player, as he does not play well as a regular.
