Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted November 8, 2015 Posted November 8, 2015 Well i can't speak for anyone but i believe the poster intended to say that we wouldn't spend any significant amount of money on FA. Pretty much. I don't see the payroll going up (possibly down)...I see value deals filling out the roster and replacing who is lost.
Slugger Verified Member Posted November 8, 2015 Posted November 8, 2015 Rosenthal says which teams might be a good fit for Davis and TSN reports it as the Jays being interested in him. f*** off TSN, stick to CFL.
FrozenRopes Verified Member Posted November 9, 2015 Posted November 9, 2015 Travis Donaldson Bautista Edwin Davis Tulo Martin Saunders Pillar What a lineup. Close to the best offense in history I would say
Ehjays Verified Member Posted November 9, 2015 Posted November 9, 2015 I actually think we are better off with Revere over Saunders. I;m not sure he will ever be 100% again
THANOS Old-Timey Member Posted November 9, 2015 Posted November 9, 2015 I actually think we are better off with Revere over Saunders. I;m not sure he will ever be 100% again Pompey over both imo, as he projects to have a higher OBP and better D, while having comparable speed to Revere.
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted November 9, 2015 Posted November 9, 2015 Pompey over both imo, as he projects to have a higher OBP and better D, while having comparable speed to Revere. We'll need his dirty cheap contract on this team too.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted November 9, 2015 Posted November 9, 2015 Pompey over both imo, as he projects to have a higher OBP and better D, while having comparable speed to Revere. Yeah but then when 1 of your outfielders get hurt you are giving PA to scrubs. Thats why I'd rather go with Saunders in LF and have Pompey as depth when someone inevitably gets hurt.

We could keep Saunders as the 4th outfielder/depth.
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted November 9, 2015 Posted November 9, 2015 Pompey over both imo, as he projects to have a higher OBP and better D, while having comparable speed to Revere. Yeah but he has to actually execute first. I have no problem with Pompey in LF but he should win the job in spring training if he really is up for it.

I think we've seen in the past that whoever wins the job in ST really doesn't impact how they perform in the season. Pompey won the CF job last year but was bad and got sent down. Same with Thames over Snider a few years ago.
baubau Verified Member Posted November 9, 2015 Posted November 9, 2015 1. Sign Aoki as 4th OF 2. Trade Revere 3. Release Saunders (or bring back for super cheap as depth in minors) 4. ???? 5. Word Series Champions

Aoki will likely get a starting job somewhere else so can't see him signing in Toronto to be a 4th OF.
Key22 Verified Member Posted November 9, 2015 Posted November 9, 2015 Shapiro needs to keep Estrada - keep the offense in tact and when he loses Price - he's going to need to bring in some big names - a Zimmerman and Chris Davis (or equivalents). This team has a chance to sell out or near sell out every game all season. The team barely won the division with those additions - so losing MB, Estrada, Price, Hawkins, Lowe, Navarro, makes this team a much worse team (not a playoff team). If they play this thing CHEAP and don't bring in guys AT LEAST as good as those 6 guys then this is badly managed and by July half the stadium will be empty. They started to win games when Dickey began pitching like an Ace in July, Price was an ace, and Estrada was quietly exceptional. Problem is we have arbitration cases - salaries are going up. But we're past the stage of bringing in third tier reclamation lightning in a bottle BS. This is a major market team - you buy in and you buy an ACE. This isn't Ricciardi and the $50 million crappola.

Agreed: From MLB Rumers Indians president of baseball operations Chris Antonetti told Jim Bowden and Jim Duquette on MLB Network Radio on SiriusXM (via Twitter) that he will look into trading a starting pitcher in order to improve elsewhere, though it’s not necessarily something that he’d like to do. The Tribe received a lot of interest in their young starters last summer; Carlos Carrasco drew particular attention and Cleveland in fact almost dealt him to the Blue Jays. Man I say we take one more kick at the can to get one of their starters

Ehjays Verified Member Posted November 9, 2015 Posted November 9, 2015 I believe we offered Norris, Hoffman and Pompey off the top of my head. They said no. I'll look it up. Edit Note: Yep thats correct

Ehjays Verified Member Posted November 9, 2015 Posted November 9, 2015 Now the best we can offer them is: Sanchez, Hutch, Pillar and Mushroom LOL I dont think its enough
glory Old-Timey Member Posted November 9, 2015 Posted November 9, 2015 What can the Jays offer for Carrasco at this point? Cleveland is too smart to like Sanchez, and Osuna needs about two years of stretching out to be a SP option and the Jays already started his service clock and wasted an option year on him. That leaves Pompey, Alford, and pitchers in A-ball. I think that rumored package was the best the Jays could have offered, but without a Norris or Hoffman to trade it will be damn difficult.

They can offer Pillar + Stroman which may get then thinking but doesn't make a lot of sense for the Jays. Sure someone else could also offer something better.
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted November 9, 2015 Posted November 9, 2015 Sell high on Pillar. I'm never a believer in him offensively and I'd gladly eat my words. But they will never get that three-stud package ever again. And if we are going to trade with them, we have to keep one of Pompey/Pillar. That being said I don't think we have enough to land him anymore. We don't have players that they could use (like TRavis)
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted November 9, 2015 Posted November 9, 2015 Hard to imagine they'll ever receive a package of that caliber again for him... Probably something even better, actually. You're selling Carrasco's value short.

Far more valuable to us than anyone else.

I say Pillar, or Pompey their choice. Sanchez, Tellez, Hutch. ++ I'm grasping I know but just try. Maybe Dickey + a nice back up catcher thrown in the package LOL
reedjohnsonfan Verified Member Posted November 9, 2015 Posted November 9, 2015 Hard to imagine they'll ever receive a package of that caliber again for him... Carrasco is on a great contract, they easily get a top 10 MLB ready/close to ready prospect for him which the Jays do not have anyone in that conversation. Norris was arguably in the top 20 heading into 2015 and it took him to get 2 months of David Price.
reedjohnsonfan Verified Member Posted November 9, 2015 Posted November 9, 2015 What can the Jays offer for Carrasco at this point? Nothing that doesn't insult Cleveland.
BTS Community Moderator Posted November 9, 2015 Posted November 9, 2015 I think people are really selling Carrasco's value short. He's s top-10 SP signed cheap for like 5 years. Cleveland can easily beat Norris/Hoffman/Pompey.
