I'd like to believe that if the numbers didn't match up on an extension and the team came to him and said "we thinks this deal makes the team better in the long run," he'd be willing to consider it. Eddy's always seemed like a great guy from the little we see.

And how often does that happen? lol

If you love your team, you don't want to leave your team. See Mats Sundin.

Does Smoakabello have any trade value?

Colabello probably has very similar value to what Adam Lind had last year. Lind was more established but Colabello plays a better 1B and has more control/is cheaper.

So Price is a good investment for the Cubs but not the Jays?

I don't recall commenting on how good an investment he'd be for the Cubs.

He wouldn't leave unless it's a bonafide playoff team like the Cards, etc, even then, I doubt it. He'll want to win here.

Makes no sense for him to waive it. He's hitting in one of the best hitting parks, in a lineup that will inflate some of his numbers, and on a team that should be considered a legit contender. Going almost anywhere else probably hurts his next contract.

I did too. Hindsight is 20/20.

I'd think Bello could fetch someone as established as Estrada was a year ago. Or close to it anyways.

A swingman or reliever, possibly. Doubt the Jays would do that as he's under control for awhile.

I could get behind Davis at the right price. His huge apparent risk might scare a lot of teams off and depress his market. He's a beast though.

bag of balls and a bucket of double bubble.

Cola is more valuable on the team. Not sure what Smoak's value is... he's useful if EE gets hurt.

Why do we keep suggesting this....

Using Sanchez? Unfortunately he's on the team so.....

well i mean EE will either sign a extension or leave next season. If we have a 1B signed in Davis (as my post hinged on him singing) then clearly you'll move the money tied in for 2 players in one position for a pitcher. If we sign Ian Desmond I'd suggest moving Tulo. Signed Buster Posey (if he was a FA), move Martin. Etc.

we could really use a premiere left handed bat.

I'm still with Spanky that we need pitching, but a left handed power bat would be very useful.

Revere

Donaldson

Bautista

Davis

EE

Tulo

Martin

Travis

Pillar

sounds nice....

As long as he comes with an Adderall exemption for the life of his contract. Man would that lineup be something!

A lot of folks on MLB Radio (mainly Duqette and Ferrin) don't see many huge contracts this year because of the depth. They had Davis at something like 4 years and 85/M.

I'd take Davis on somewhere around 20-22M/year. He's been good defensively the last two years and since 2012 he's had one bad season (94 wRC+) and 3 with 121 wRC+ or greater.

A win is a win and if you get a 4 win player playing over Smoak or Colabello that's a pretty massive improvement.

I don't want any oriole scum playing for toronto. no thanks

I know bautista wouldn't like it But I'd love to have ODay Scum on my team

I'd much rather go for a high OBP LH hitter. Davis had unreal power but also strikes out almost a 3rd of the time.

The fun thought for the off-season is that the rumors of payroll not going up are a smokescreen and the team is actually planning on pumping a bunch of money into the roster

MLBtraderumours predicts him at 6yrs and 144million

5. Chris Davis – Cardinals. Six years, $144MM. Davis is baseball’s most prolific home run hitter, leading the Majors in 2013 and 2015. He’s a middle of the order monster and he doesn’t turn 30 until March. Agent Scott Boras will attempt to downplay Davis’ high strikeout rate and his 2014 suspension for use of Adderall. Boras will push for seven years for Davis, a term he achieved with Ellsbury and Shin-Soo Choo previously. First base is not an in-demand position this winter, so finding a match for Davis is difficult. He would be a great addition to the Cardinals’ lineup if they lose Heyward. The Orioles will stay involved, while the Astros, Mariners, and Padres make some degree of sense

Consequently they have the Jays landing Zimmerman and Estrada going to Oakland

7. Jordan Zimmermann – Blue Jays. Six years, $126MM. Zimmermann could become the first Tommy John survivor to score a $100MM contract. He has a 3.13 ERA over 810 1/3 innings over the last four seasons, but slipped a bit in 2015 and doesn’t boast the strikeout rate of other top arms. Since Zimmermann won’t turn 30 until May, a six-year term is attainable. The Blue Jays need arms, and executive Dana Brown was the Nationals’ scouting director when Zimmermann was drafted in ’07. The Cubs, Giants, Diamondbacks, and Tigers are other good matches.

29. Marco Estrada – Athletics. Three years, $30MM. Estrada looked like a non-tender candidate for the Brewers a year ago, who traded him to the Blue Jays for Adam Lind. He didn’t even join Toronto’s rotation until May 5th, but he went on to post a 3.28 ERA in 28 starts. He also raised his profile with two excellent postseason starts in three tries. The 32-year-old soft-tosser received a qualifying offer from the Blue Jays — an offer of a one-year, $15.8MM contract upon which he must decide in the next seven days. Estrada has earned $10MM in his career, so accepting the offer has to be a serious consideration. Still, Estrada would surely prefer the security of a multiyear deal, and has a good chance of finding a three-year contract even with the draft pick cost. The qualifying offer gives the Blue Jays leverage over the next week, so it’s possible he’ll strike a multiyear deal with them to remain in Toronto.

Jose wants to win and he wants the arms to do that more than he dislikes ODay for some on the field stuff from the past.

We can only dream...

If Payroll really was going to go up why leak that it is going down? A lot of bad PR for Rogers right now.
