To some posters, you just need to add WAR and it doesn't matter where it comes from lol

KC kind of just won a World Series doing this. They added a bunch of wins to the defense and bullpen because it was the cheapest place to add, and basically ignored their starting rotation.

I just think of the Rangers in the early 2000s that had amazing hitting but no pitching. There's always a balance. We have plenty of hitting, but we need starting pitching. We had plenty of hitting this year, but we didn't win it all. A lot of things happen in the playoffs that you can't just look at numbers and projections/predictions and say this is things we'll turn out.

You're pretty far off on the Rangers. Position player wise, they never really escaped middle of the pack. They were bad defensively and decent offensively.

Cespedes is probably going to cost north of 20 million per year. He has a scary skillset, and is coming off a career year.

No thank you.

Not only is he going to command alot but to take himself out of that Final game to me shows no heart.....In my mind thats an easy pass.

You almost never see players like Pillar traded. Players with 5 years of control and on rookie contracts coming off a 4 WAR season is extremely valuable to the team and you never would get full value in a trade.

His value could go up even more as he may have a GoldGlove added to his resume. You have to give up something to get something and the better he looks on paper may drive up his value be a key part of a trade for a Salazar/Carrasco.

I don't think Pillar's value to the team last year will be accurately valued on the trade market.

Neither do I. Though I think the playoffs were a great 'showcase' for him.

It could very well be. Pillar was on the highlight reel almost nightly with his defense, and his key hits in the playoffs got plenty of visibility. Add those to the WAR he put up and his value is probably well regarded in the league.

I used to believe that but I almost think with all the highlight reel catches he made and teams not seeing him everyday like us, makes me believe the opposite that some teams could actually value him more than what he is worth to this team.

Sadly I think I know the answer, but does anyone think we could get something decent for Belo? By something decent I mean a good relief pitcher. I would very much rather add to the offense and get solid but unspectacular pitchers to fill around them.

I think this as well. He stood out on a team full of notable players in the playoffs. I think he would actually be valued more than KK despite KK being far superior on the defensive end, just because of visibility and notoriety.

A good comp for his value right now is probably Adam Lind last off-season.

Kiermaier is winning it.

I think Shapiro is much more likely to trade Revere. I liked what Revere brought to the table though. I wonder even if Shapiro would have the balls to trade him or Pillar purely for prospects.

Don't think anyone would be too upset at trading Revere

He seems to be great off the field too, not sure they would jump to trade him.

Besides, unless Travis is up to the task, you don't have a leadoff hitter if you trade him.

The downside is the money he's about to make but it seems fair to what you get back.

I could see Shapiro trade Revere just for prospects but definitely not Pillar. If Pillar is traded it will be as part of a package to land a cheap and controllable elite pitcher like Carrasco/Salazar/Martinez/Quintana/etc.

Does Ben Revere have value though?

I mean look at what we gave up to get him - nothing of consequence.

And now he will be making more in annual salary.

We'd be giving him up if we could improve the team, but I don't see how we could unless it was for a RP

I think he has enough value to net 1 low level high ceiling prospect or a decent MLB reliever, but that's about it imo. Pillar has the real value.

Adam Lind was a much more defined asset over many seasons than Belo. He rakes RHP and can't hit LHP. Belo is an interesting one hit wonder (so far) with a very high BABIP 2015.

I think Lind had more value when he brought Estrada.

Lind also had a string of mediocre seasons before his 2014 to really lower his value, and Belo's splits are pretty even. I'd say they are very close to the same value at these points in time. You could be correct though!

The flip side of that was that Adam Lind carried a finanical commitment. It's apples to oranges really.

Say Pillar is roughly a 3 WAR player for the next 5 years in which he gets paid something like 6-10-14 in arbitration. ( Numbers probably will be off but for argument's sake using round numbers)

So you are getting around 15 Wins for 30 Million. At 8 million/WAR that is a $110 Million asset. Even if the numbers are off a little who is giving up a $100 million asset for Pillar? Thats why I can't see him getting traded IMO and because he fills a hole on the team.

Pillar putting up 15 fWAR over the next 5 years is such a longshot that it's basically not even considerable. The highest OF fWAR over the last 5 years with a sub-100 wRC+ is Bourn at 12.1, and then it's Parra at 9.1. Very little chance his defense remains elite through age-31.

I laughed because when I pictured Pillar putting up 3 WAR at 31 years old after like 7 years on this turf, I pictured him running around with Oscar Pistorius' legs.

We're gonna have grass in 2018, loser!

Gosh.

Hopefully Shapiro can figure out a way to get it in by 2017.
