I understand that, but is it feasable to throw up an unrespectable SP during a Post season run?

Um, yes? The Kansas City Royals did that and they won the World Series that way...

Price, Heyward and Davis please. need some good lefty bats in this lineup.

Do we really, though? Bautista, EE, Donaldson and Tulo all hit at a significantly above-average level against both RHP and LHP (Tulo is the worst against RHP, with a career 115 wRC+ against them).

Meanwhile, Heyward and Davis are both below league average in their careers against LHP, showing significant splits as most lefty hitters do (I'm assuming this out of intuition).

You can put a LOOGY in an important spot against Davis and suddenly the latter is not as effective/dangerous (still has tremendous power obviously), but you put a right-handed reliever against any of JB, JD, EE or Tulo and they're all still elite hitters, as we saw many times this year. Brett Cecil against Chris Davis wasn't even fair.

What are you saying? People don't want Jason Heyward because omg dem fancy stats. His addition of Wins Above Replacement are just as important as whatever other starter you might sign that gives you similar value.

Jason Heyward would make this team noticeably better than a lower tier starter would.

No that's a fallacy, we're not getting Heyward. Nor is it MS's or Lacava's point of interest, is that sane enough for you?

The team as a whole had a 115 wRC+ against RHP, which was the best in the league by a significant margin. Our mark against LHP was 124, still the best in the league.

Why?

You score more runs with a lefty in your lineup?

I really can't believe TSN took the KS article so far out of context sturring up false rumours. As North mentioned, there is a huge leap from Jays could be a possible fit for Davis to "Blue Jays are interested in Davis". TSN morons.

Who cares about pitching when we score 10 runs a game? Load up on offense baby!

And how did that worked out for us this past playoffs?

We need an ace or two above anything else. Making the playoffs will then mean something.

Overreliance on stats. Everyone kept bitching about AA's inability to field a complete team, until this year. And yet, you are saying team WAR is all that matters? Holes in the roster are not a problem if team WAR is good?

We had David Price... he led the league in ERA... he has won a Cy Young.

In the playoff games that he started we went 0-3.

We need better then Price. Kershaw also has not led his team to the playoff world series victories that we all dream of.

The only answer is this. To win we need an ace. Price and Kershaw are not real aces. I have two solutions.

1. Find the next Sidd Finch.

2. Find the next Jack Morris.

these are the ones we need. They both would contribute in different ways. Price is a false ace. We need a real one. A finch like pitcher would give up no runs, not even contact, this is the ace we need for victory.

A morris like pitcher would give up 3.5 runs a game. More than Price... but he only give up runs when ahead 10-0 and pitch shut outs when we need.

We need an ace above anythinge else. I have done a very good statistical analsyis of K.C. as they marched to their championship. Here are the life time playoff records of each K.C. starter.

Johny Cueto - 2-3 5.35

Edinson Volquez - 1-4 5.35

Yordano (Ace) Ventura - 1-2 4.66

Chris Young - 2-0 2.01

It is incredible -- you are 100% correct. K.C. became champions because they had an ace. Chris Young -- ace like numbers without a doubt. The others are quite mediocre (life time playoff record). But Chris Young was the ace they needed.

So the question is this: How do we get an ace like Chris Young?? How indeed??

Why not sign or trade for him?? What is his contract status?? Perhaps the others have not yet recognized that he is the ace they need and he will be available for below market rates???

You are 100% correct, KC is the ultimate team that won a WS to imitate..... not.

I don't think we won a single game that Price started, but we definitely need an ace for the playoffs. Yup.

Signing David Price is probably the worst thing this team could do. Lackey, Kuma, Young, Hill are all much better targets.

All this speculation about big name big money FAs for us is amusing wet dream stuff. I'd be very surprised if we sign any FA deal, even as large as Martins.

Wait didn't we have an ace in the playoffs? HOW DID THAT WORK OUT?

We don't need Price and I don't want to sign him. In fact it would be a terrible decision.

But these arguments have false premises. If we had Cecil we probably hang on to win WS Gm 2 and we should have won Price's Gm 6 start.

Lets the Hill's bandwagon start.

The 0-3 in Price starts arguments are just being made to illustrate the idea that there's no one blueprint for success. Identify areas where you can add wins, and then add them as efficiently as possible. Signing an ace to a 7-year free agent contract is about the worst way to possibly add wins.

Just say no to 150 million+ for an all home run bat that strikes out 30%+ of the time that won't be able to hit lefties when matched up in high leverage situations in later innings. Also provides negative value defensively at a non-premium defensive position.

Would be an awful signing.

And if we had Davis he would have hit 5 hrs in the ALCS and we would have won blah blah blah

Chris Davis has never hit a post-season HR...avoid at all costs.

Most "home run bats" do not translate well in the playoffs. The end up getting shut down.

Trying to lead the league in HR's is not a good team building philosophy when we have major holes in starting pitching.

I agree and Shapiro isn't going to sign a Davis or Price, he will get us a couple of reasonable good starters along with some relievers. That's all we need for 2016.
