Sooo... when is it appropriate for AA to announce his deal with the Marlins?

All money lost by Rogers is directly related to NextIssue. f*** NextIssue.

It's so stupid that they won't pull the blog on such a doomed endeavour. Instead they re-brand it "Texture by NextIssue". Yeah like that's going to make a difference. They have advertised the f*** out of nextissue already and nobody cares. Clearly the problem is the product.

I think you disrespect Alex Anthopolous' as a person, even more so than as a GM. He has always been very honest with the media and pretty much everyone he deals with from the sounds of things. He's enjoying a break, spending time with his family. Probably for the first time in his life.

There's no secret deal with the Marlins. He didn't give up his dream job, to go to that s*** show organization. Life doesn't always have to be conspiracies and deceit. There really are solid people in this world, who have integrity. I know its earth shattering.

The man has 2 (I believe) young kids and was probably working an ungodly amount of time. Maybe the hiring of a new president was his perfect opportunity to leave his job and maybe find something a little more family friendly.

This is why LaCava keeps pointing out how happy AA is. Honestly I would not be surprised in the least, if AA has a shadow part of this teams off-season. LaCava and him are going to continue to talk. I think this entire forum is completely wrong about what happened, and am glad the conversation has changed.

If that's the case why didn't he mention spending more time with his family as a motivation in his conference call? That's a pretty standard thing to say when retiring from a high profile position, people ususally say that even if they don't mean it and AA didn't say that at all even as a smokescreen. Now it's possible that having made the decision to leave, he will come to appreciate the time off and decide that he'd rather spend time with his family than pursue another opportuity but there's really no indication from him or anyone else that family was his motivation.

That did not come out right. I am not suggesting AA is somehow still a part of the decision making process in the background. Also I believe LaCava is very capable to do this job without Alex's input. I just think they are close friends and will likely have some discussion. Alex does not like to talk about his personal life I don't think. Any personal reason's are his. I don't think it's the reason he did not extend, I think it's the reason there is no back door deal to run the Marlins. He said there was no other job planned. That's the truth.

That's true. I'd imagine it was the combination of a few things, but reading a few articles in the past on how much he worked, it wouldn't surprise me if his kids had something to do with it. That's all.

No disrespect to the lack of cynicism in your post but we have all seen things like this go down many times whether it's replacing a ceo or shuffling of cabinet positions. Orchestrated to the public with glowing statements and press releases. There is no percentage in airing the real deal. We will know soon enough what AA's future is but I doubt he is taking time off to swing the kids.

Oh please. If that was the case, he would have said he was walking away from baseball to spend more time with his family. He intentially left his reasons extremely vague, both to the public and Shapiro (according to Shapiro). He also said in his press conference that he can't see himself working in any other business but baseball right now.

Oh yeah... I could definitely play a role, it just seems unlikely that he would be so coy about if it was his primary motivation. There's no doubt that going from Beeston to Shapiro is a huge culture change and an exhausted, overworked AA might simply not have had it in him to keep sacrificing potential family time for a new boss who probably would have held him to tighter scrutiny over baseball decisions.

For the record, I'm not totally convinced by this Marlins thing. There doesn't seem to be anything to it other than a coincidence in timing.

I don't think he'll go to the Marlins. If AA wants control of the baseball side of a team I can't believe that he'd think that Loria will give it to him. Loria meddles.

More strawmen. You are still not worthy of a response. Try harder and maybe one day you'll make enough sense that I feel explaining things to you will be beneficial.

I shall shall sacrifice a virgin and pray daily to the living god Andrew Friedman with the hope you will enlighten me one day. Don't fret, there are plenty of other virgins around here for sacrifice, you're in no danger.

If it turns out that AA turned his back on Canada and the Jays for an opportunity with Loria and The Marlins, I will have to re-evaluate every positive thing I ever thought about him. I mean I have had plenty of criticism of him as a GM but this would be the first really public indication that he might be a bit of a s***.

it's safe to say that I don't think he's a good person, and am sure he's not a "solid person", there is loads of squishiness in his person.

That's easy to say, but I'm pretty sure any of us would leave our jobs for 2-3x the pay, even if we knew the employer had a terrible reputation.

Yes but it can be pretty easy to pull the wool over a meddlesome owner/boss who is basically ignorant. I work in an ITish postion and I find having bosses with no real understanding of what I do buys me a lot of freedom. That's a luxury AA wouldn't have had under Shapiro.

Well the terrible employer might actually be appealing in this case. AA might prefer to be the smartest guy in the room. That's a luxury he had under Beeston/Rogers and one he would probably have under Loria but definitely not one he would have under Shapiro/Rogers.

Got to say I've never heard anyone who left the Marlins say anything bad at all about Loria. It might be much more of a media/fan thing. Beinfest stayed with him for like 14 years (counting the 2 in Montreal), Hill has to be 13 now. Like I said before...the Marlins are a great job for a GM. If the teams suck, ownership gets blamed. If you succeed, it's because you are a brilliant GM, despite your bad ownership. It's much like another market, that i just can't think of right now.

Now wouldn't be a bad time at all to take over the Marlins as a GM. They have some good young core pieces and potentially a ton of salary to blow on FAs. They could probably afford to ink Heyward and Greinke, and field a competitive team next year.

Still think this is going to happen with AA. Within the next couple weeks.

There is a rumour according to Brunt that AAhas a four year offer on the table from the Dodgers.

Dodgers seem more likely of a landing spot for him than Marlins; if true, then the cruz move is maybe part of the master plan...

Well he knew that one of the reasons that AA was leaving was because of the way they treated Beeston. That has been reported quite widely, and they had a lengthy discussion on sirius xm on this. Perkins also discussed the same subject. Where there is smoke ......

You've reminded me of the best tweet I saw this season:

"Where there's Smoak there's #FireAA"

This was when they were scuffling, of course...
