admin Site Manager Posted November 3, 2015 Posted November 3, 2015 I think it should be noted, that because of signing Vlad Jr., we will not be able to sign any IFA's for over $300,000. That will also limit us from being able to add prospect depth next year. Thanks to being able to trade Locastro and DeJong for International Slot, we will be able to go after the IFA's of 2017, when some major player's are sitting out. Maybe I'm reaching, but could the Vlad Jr deal have something to do with Shapiro/AA issues? I didn't see it, but someone mentioned in a post that out of no where AA kept bringing up Vlad Jr in one of his interviews on how much he liked Vlad Jr and how he's going to be an MLB player one day. I found that kinda odd. Maybe he was subtly defending the signing.
Nafro Verified Member Posted November 3, 2015 Posted November 3, 2015 Most organizations do, but I'm not a f***ing scout. s***, John Mayo and John Sickels can sit at home in their pyjamas and name 30+ legitimate prospects with MLB potential in basically every MLB organization. Just because BA and BP do top 10 lists and most public sector scouts don't have the resources to properly evaluate the very low minors doesn't mean that potential real talent doesn't run 50+ names deep and all the way down to the DOSL and VESL. Just as a reference, before John Sickels does his offseason top 20 for each team he does a preliminary prospect list that tends to run 40+ names deep, and then gets community input on who to cut/keep. The Jays still easily have 40-50+ prospects of interest.
Laika Community Moderator Posted November 3, 2015 Posted November 3, 2015 The Jays still easily have 40-50+ prospects of interest. I think their farm is still fine. Below average, obviously, but there is still depth - especially in the low minors. The 50+ number is actually a little light, in all likelihood and if we're including guys with say, bench potential or 7th RP potential.

That being said the rules have only been in effect for a couple years. The risk of being penalized the next signing period is missing out on a generational talent. The probelem with the rules is you have to be penalized at least one and more likely two years to get any of the top prospects now. Its a damned if you do, damned if you don't set up. Hopefully we see an International draft come into play. I think its just a matter of time.

Laika Community Moderator Posted November 3, 2015 Posted November 3, 2015 Sadly I get excited for 7th RP's like Chad Girodo. Chad Girodo is for real, man. Lefties that throw 87 don't grow on trees! One guy that I consider a legitimate RP prospect who I hope stays in the organization is Ben Rowen
Nafro Verified Member Posted November 3, 2015 Posted November 3, 2015 I cannot even throw with my left hand. Agree on Rowen, also am intrigued now by Dragmire, Infante and a few others. Rowen can be our own O'Day.
Nafro Verified Member Posted November 3, 2015 Posted November 3, 2015 Cool blog on state of farm. http://lansinglugnuts.mlblogs.com/2015/09/22/blue-jays-prospecting-looking-toward-2016/
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted November 3, 2015 Posted November 3, 2015 The only way he Amaro's the org is if he extends Bautista and Eddy to massive contracts. Amaro did so many dumb things, the fact you guys are even mentioning him in the same sentence with AA is pretty mind boggling. I can agree with this, 16' is the last kick at the can, we'll take the comp picks for EE and Bats either way. They might sign one, but I highly doubt it. I'm pretty sure AA would be slashing payroll after next season.

GD Old-Timey Member Posted November 3, 2015 Posted November 3, 2015 Holy s***, I'm dumn. Nothing to see here. I was actually sitting here confused at why you weren't making sense. I really am going to turn into you one day
King Old-Timey Member Posted November 3, 2015 Posted November 3, 2015 How about Stilson, is he dead now? He's just a guy now.
BTS Community Moderator Posted November 3, 2015 Posted November 3, 2015 I really am going to turn into you one day As this was happening I thought to myself "GD would do this".
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted November 3, 2015 Posted November 3, 2015 He's just a guy now. No more heat, or still injured?
GD Old-Timey Member Posted November 4, 2015 Posted November 4, 2015 As this was happening I thought to myself "GD would do this". At least now you know how it feels you misogynist Glad to know I've infiltrated your thoughts

GD Old-Timey Member Posted November 4, 2015 Posted November 4, 2015 This is so gauche. That's a pretty egregious statement imo.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted November 4, 2015 Posted November 4, 2015 That's a pretty egregious statement imo. lol... indefensible?!
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted November 4, 2015 Posted November 4, 2015 What's Friedman done that I should be raving about again? Traded Kemp for Grandel, traded for Alex Wood, signed Anderson, McCarthy and Howie Kendrick. Did I miss something interesting? lol jesus christ
BTS Community Moderator Posted November 4, 2015 Posted November 4, 2015 lol... indefensible?! And we've hit the nadir of our value.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted November 4, 2015 Posted November 4, 2015 And we've hit the nadir of our value. Kaboom!
GD Old-Timey Member Posted November 4, 2015 Posted November 4, 2015 And we've hit the nadir of our value. Did you run a reg- nah someone made that joke already
BTS Community Moderator Posted November 4, 2015 Posted November 4, 2015 Did you run a reg- nah someone made that joke already Ironically, that's pretty much what I was doing while posting earlier.
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted November 4, 2015 Posted November 4, 2015 lol jesus christ you have to admit trading players for rollins and paying him 11 million and getting virtually no value wasn't the best move.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted November 4, 2015 Posted November 4, 2015 you have to admit trading players for rollins and paying him 11 million and getting virtually no value wasn't the best move. What I'll admit is that a few of you have no idea what you're talking about. Listing all those moves as "meh" is hilarious. The Kemp deal alone was far better than the Donaldson trade.
BTS Community Moderator Posted November 4, 2015 Posted November 4, 2015 you have to admit trading players for rollins and paying him 11 million and getting virtually no value wasn't the best move. I see that a lot like a saw the Melky signing after year one: a zero-risk gamble on a guy that you would have projected to do well, but that didn't work out. Those are the moves it's ok to whiff on.
BTS Community Moderator Posted November 4, 2015 Posted November 4, 2015 Maicer Izturis falls under the same category for me.
IBTrini Verified Member Posted November 4, 2015 Posted November 4, 2015 I disagree. AA was being a total Dombrowski and eventually the Jays would have become the 2015 Tigers. The Jays are exciting right now but definitely not sustainable. Seems like we have different opinions however I feel Anthopoulos is smart enough to see the situation for what it is and I would have had faith in his ability to trade away his aging assets for a nice haul when the time was right. Anyway, I really hope Shapiro knows what he is doing cuz I feel he does not have Anthopoulos' ninja trading skills and he will surely need to be crafty going forward.
