I think Shapiro is going to bring in someone he likes. So no, Gibby will not be manager in 2016.

Is that really Shapiro's job though or is it the person he brings in as the GM? That's starting to cloud what Shapiro's role is here. If LaCava is the interim GM he very well might keep Gibbons.

Valid point

I think Shapiro will keep Gibbons for at least 2016 and evaluate the job after the season. He knows as much as anyone that the manager position doesn't mean much in terms of wins and losses and that the players really like him.

That's true but the difference between someone like Gibby and Joe Maddon, or Terry Francona, may be significant enough for Shapiro to pull the trigger. I don't think the casuals think much of Gibby either, so it wouldn't be "throwing them a bone" to keep him.

If Francona wants to stay with Shapiro then i think he is gone faster then you can say boo

We can only hope it happens. Francona is a saber-friendly manager right?

If I have the story right Francona was only hired to listen to Epstein and Henry.

Before game 7 of the 2003 ALCS Grady Little was given detailed instructions on when to pull Pedro given pitch count, and/or game situation.

He didn't listen and was fired... he apparently even mentioned it in the post game interview... "I might of just gotten fired". Enter Francona after that.

So I guess Francona is willing to take direction and instruction from above... which is not a bad thing. If Gibbons can do that as well, then Gibbons should be manager.

Key word is will, not should.

Discuss.

He absolutely should and I think he probably will for 2016 at least.

He shouldn't but I suspect he will. At least until he can be scapegoated mid-season.

Hale worked under Francona didn't he? Might be a back-up option.
