Olerud363 Old-Timey Member Posted October 30, 2015 Posted October 30, 2015 I'm sorry to say this, but having a full roster of young studs under 25 at every position and dreaming of that 5 year window when everyone will be in their prime will NEVER happen. K.C. just basically did it. Hosmer 23, Mouse 24, Perez 23, Escobar 26, Gordon 29, Cain 27 in 2013 -- that was the start of their run. They weren't all under 25. But they had a three year run with these 6 in their youngish primes-- that's pretty good.
Frenchsoup Verified Member Posted October 30, 2015 Posted October 30, 2015 You trade Jose & Edwin for Cole Hamels-lite type returns and move forward. You win a world series with them this year, then QO both and maybe get a deal done with one of them.

We're in a better position to keep those players though, but would you want to? Would you let them walk and just keep rinsing repeating until you get that cocktail again? Might not ever happen for them.
Ehjays Verified Member Posted October 30, 2015 Posted October 30, 2015 You trade Jose & Edwin for Cole Hamels-lite type returns and move forward. Look at the 2 teams in the World Series right now that traded aging value for youth. Royals traded Greinke and The Mets traded Dickey. The timing is key. We all know that edwin and Jose will not bring in that much but still bring in something.
Trouba95 Old-Timey Member Posted October 30, 2015 Posted October 30, 2015 Agreed. I want Jose & Edwin gone. Yep. Get full value for them while you can.

Greinke was pretty young when he was traded no?
Slugger Verified Member Posted October 30, 2015 Posted October 30, 2015 Greinke was pretty young when he was traded no? That's his point.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted October 30, 2015 Posted October 30, 2015 No trade clause for both so stop. Greinke was pretty young when he was traded no? Depends what the new GM was to do. If he trades other guys and it's clear to Edwin and Jose that the team isn't going to compete this year, then both would probably waive their no trade clauses if it meant going to a contender.
GeorgiaPeach Verified Member Posted October 30, 2015 Posted October 30, 2015 Shapiro is going to love Pompey, the Jays were going to trade Pompey this offseason because they know that he's soft inside and will never meet his potential. I like Pompey's potential far more than what Pillar's showing.

Or you tell one he is playin 1st Base....LOL
BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted October 30, 2015 Posted October 30, 2015 I like Pompey's potential far more than what Pillar's showing. Pillar had a 4.3 WAR this year. Never saw that coming but I doubt he ever matches that again. If Shapiro believes that he may sell high in a package. I just wonder if any other GMs see any further upside in Pillar though. I think Pompey could get a consistent 3+ WAR performer.
GeorgiaPeach Verified Member Posted October 30, 2015 Posted October 30, 2015 The Jays didn't just lose AA, they are going to lose a lot of staff responsible for drafting, signing and helped make the decisions on trades for players. AA was always quick to credit his team and clearly there many people impacted the team. He's a likable guy who will take some valuable people with him so be careful what you wish for BTS/Hurl. There's obviously other very intelligent baseball people in the industry who can fill those roles.
THANOS Old-Timey Member Posted October 30, 2015 Posted October 30, 2015 I like Pompey's potential far more than what Pillar's showing. Definitely. He doesn't need generous BABIP luck with that OBP, walk rate, and speed. .400 OBP (from AA to AAA in 2015), 12.2 BB%, elite speed.
GeorgiaPeach Verified Member Posted October 30, 2015 Posted October 30, 2015 I may not follow the game enough to know every executive, scout, player and prospect in the game, but I do watch baseball. I think the Jays have drafted and traded for some good young players in the past few years, but maybe you don't like Stroman, Syndergaard or Osuna. I know you just look at Lamar and see him as the idiot who was the predecessor to your hero who's poster you jerk off to every night. But you made it sound in earlier posts like the Jays were in trouble if they were to lose those personnel.
GeorgiaPeach Verified Member Posted October 30, 2015 Posted October 30, 2015 The Yankees aren't as strong because they had a whole bunch of aging players signed to monster contracts, and had little to no players coming out of the farm. Sounds like what would've been here if Jose & Edwin were extended. Fun, fun, fun. But casuals wouldn't understand that.
GeorgiaPeach Verified Member Posted October 30, 2015 Posted October 30, 2015 Aging players signed to monster contracts you say? Yup. Going to be hard to say goodbye to Edwin and/or Jose, but we are going to have to face that sooner than I care to. Once you lose your attachment to being emotionally connected to players you'll care more about the big picture.
BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted October 30, 2015 Posted October 30, 2015 Once you lose your attachment to being emotionally connected to players you'll care more about the big picture. Lol. f*** off. I can like a player emotionally and want the right busines move made for the "big picture". Period.
GeorgiaPeach Verified Member Posted October 30, 2015 Posted October 30, 2015 Only people who don't believe in the farm say that. I think they are developing pretty well right now. The farm is middle of the pack. Nothing special. Anything of significance is in A ball or lower.
GeorgiaPeach Verified Member Posted October 30, 2015 Posted October 30, 2015 So it was one and done? We won't be in the mix next yr? Is that the message BTS is sending out? Do we have anything that resembles a competent rotation? All I see is question marks and mediocrity after Stroman.
GeorgiaPeach Verified Member Posted October 30, 2015 Posted October 30, 2015 I think Osuna is definitely in the starting rotation next year, especially with Shapiro's philosophy, and if Hendriks comes into camp with the same fastball, he probably gets a shot as well. Shapiro will want to see if their K/9 and low FIP's play as starters and I'm just as intrigued. I can't see Hendriks sitting 94-96 in the rotation. He's likely throwing a tick above what he was when he was starting before.
GeorgiaPeach Verified Member Posted October 30, 2015 Posted October 30, 2015 If Shapiro is planning on firing Gibby, trading EE for young talent and going after Chris Davis, then I'm on board. Chris Davis is gonna get a dumn contract.
GeorgiaPeach Verified Member Posted October 30, 2015 Posted October 30, 2015 Eddy, Tulo, and Bautista can't be traded. So your looking at Donaldson, Revere, and Martin as your trade chips, in this apparent rebuild mode we're in now. They can if they waive their right to be traded.
GeorgiaPeach Verified Member Posted October 30, 2015 Posted October 30, 2015 Did you see how hard it was to move other players with no-trade clause? Like Hamels and Utley and a few others? It's near impossible. Did you see Tulo and how hard a transition it was coming to a new league, team & Country? And if there is any sense of a re-build or re-tool coming, why would Edwin or Jose wanna stick around?
GeorgiaPeach Verified Member Posted October 30, 2015 Posted October 30, 2015 Rebuilding would be absolutely moronic. You just got the fans back and your going to blow it up. That was destroy Baseball in this city absolutely crush it. Our window is large enough to win that we should be able to replenish the farm system to the point where were in not in trouble. If this is really the plan I can't support this at all. It makes zero sense. You cannot waste this lineup. There's pieces on this team that need to go, no matter how upset the fans get. Jose & Edwin being extended are those pieces.
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted October 30, 2015 Posted October 30, 2015 There's obviously other very intelligent baseball people in the industry who can fill those roles. Whether we get the right people or if they are willing to come here is a different story. We already have a top-notch scouting and player development team in place. I'll be more disappointed if that gets dismantled.
GeorgiaPeach Verified Member Posted October 30, 2015 Posted October 30, 2015 You do know that without thie "idiotic" or "bandwagon" fans giving a crap, we would be like the Rays attendance wise. Plus without these fans spending money on Jays stuffs and watching on tv Rogers will go cheaper with the team. Let them come out and spend and cheer. But their opinions need to be left at the door for what are good moves or players. They just need to worry about the "W's"
GeorgiaPeach Verified Member Posted October 30, 2015 Posted October 30, 2015 No... firstly Bautista & EE won't be shopped around, they are 10/5 players and can veto any trade. If Shapiro tells them the team is gonna be re-tooled or re-built you think they'll wanna stick around? And no I don't want either of these guys extended. They're expensive bat only players at this point.
Boogerloo Verified Member Posted October 30, 2015 Posted October 30, 2015 Do we have anything that resembles a competent rotation? All I see is question marks and mediocrity after Stroman. And thats the thing. The majority of the fans (the ones that keeps the gears greased) wanted AA to finish the job. He earned it. This was HIS team. I think after the coup that he pulled off in Aug. people started believing that he can fix the holes and get us back to the dance. In AA we trust. Rogers brings in an outsider (to the "casuals"), gets Toronto's favorite son kicked out, and the mob thinks Rogers playing cheap again.
GeorgiaPeach Verified Member Posted October 30, 2015 Posted October 30, 2015 Explain. I'd rather see MLB relocate to other locations other than Montreal.
