AA either didn't want to work for a president who would have baseball input, or there was a philosophy clash between the two. Or maybe both.

seriously man? The Donaldson trade alone counterbalances all 3 of those players. Then add Tulo, Price, Travis, Stro, traded Wells, Osuna, Sanchez, Pompey, Martin...

Yeah I get it, he made some great moves. Some fantastic moves. But he's made some boneheaded ones too that cant be ignored. Before this year we haven't even sniffed the playoffs and 80% of the ppl here wanted him gone. Its AA's choice to leave, I'm not gonna get hung up on how amazing he was. If he wants to go, then go. We'll be fine

Shapiro likely wanted a larger stat department that is actually used for meaningful things and to reduce the reliance on subjective scout analysis.

My guess is that Shapiro was furious when he found out that the "BEEST" computer system was actually just a cardboard monitor prop from an Office Depot showroom, and has decided to take it out on everyone involved. This "AA chose to leave" stuff is organizational spin at its finest.

The ignorance is strong with this one.

That's grounds for blackballing. You don't pillage your old team on the way out.

One good trade does not counterbalance a handful of bad ones. Regardless how good the good one is, it shows a lack of good judgment on a day-to-day perspective. Broken clock and such.

The Wells trade might have been the best of all. Ditched him at the perfect time after a good season and before he completely s*** the bed. He had 4 years and 86 million left.

Good chance #BlueJays execs such as Tony LaCava (VP/baseball ops) and Perry Minasian (director, pro scouting) will also look to leave team.

Yikes this could be a PR nightmare for the team.

If this is a necessary purge for the team to switch to the mindset of keeping young talent, i'm all for it.

Shapiro is an idiot. If he was any smart at all he would have made the Carrasco trade to the Jays.

But honestly, Carrasco seems primed to be a stud and Shapiro was shopping him as if he didn't even know. We really trust this guy more than AA? Sure Shapiro might make a few less mistakes but he also hits less home runs.

You're joking right?

Yup, f*** the World Series. Let's get that #1 farm system ranking!

Is Manny Acta currently managing somewhere?

Acta has history with both Shapiro and the Jays Dominican players and no he's not managing anywhere. He and Sandy Alomar would probably be leading candidate if Gibby is let go. I think Gibby stays though. The team will want to establish some kind of continuity with the team that went to the playoffs.

AA should have been "scolded" for that. Now his successor will be left with a barren upper minors and a team whose core is in their 30's. A change needed to be made.

Um where are the mets and Royals right now? How did they get there???

Well trade was brilliant but somewhat marred by the fact that the money wasn't re-invested and Napoli was flipped right away.

I don't see the twitter icon to make the tweet show up. Can a MOD help me out?

To me, this means that the Jays are probably going to be looking to cut payroll. One wouldn't be overly concerned about trading prospects vs the results unless the mission is to cut payroll and have those young guys take over.

Or you can rebuild the farm system and field a winning team at the same time.

They never should have brought in Shapiro as president. AA should have been promoted an autonomous president/GM role, giving AA the ability to continue GM duties until he chooses his own successor. And if this was too much of a workload for AA, they should have hired a separate VP of baseball operations so that AA isn't concerned with ticket sales and concession stands and crap like that.

The only time an organization should ever bring in an outsider to run it is when the organization sees itself going in the wrong direction, and it wants to blow itself up and start over fresh.

The act of taking Shapiro, previously AA's peer, an outsider, and hiring him above AA, was a giant middle finger to AA, and anyone who thinks otherwise is an idiot. The act of hiring Shapiro was the act of pressing the panic/nuke button. The only question is whether Rogers realized they had pressed this button.

Kansas doesn't have those players yet beat the Blue Jays pretty easily and they made it to the world series last year as well. You are forgetting there are a lot of good players in the league. Price isn't with the team when FA starts. Martin anyone could have signed and he kept Sanchez over Syn. Donaldson was a great trade but I was disappointed with the mets/marlins trades. This team could have had a different makeup with young cheap controllable pitching along with some hitting instead of an expensive yet very good hitting team. The Mets made it that way and they have a pretty solid rotation for a while. AA wasn't perfect by any means and is replaceable.

Life was sometimes fun under AA - the big trades; the 2015 season.

But I'm neutral on his departure. About as neutral as his record: 489 - 483. 1 x 5th placed finish, 3 x 4th placed finishes, 1 x 3rd place finish, 1 x 1st place finish. Looking ahead to the 2016 season just sums up the AA engima to me. A killer lineup, yes, but no rotation.

I'd like to have seen AA have another season. To see if he had truly grown in the role of GM as he himself alluded to. But it is what it is, and it's an evens bet that the new GM will leave a better legacy than AA did.

Demotion? Where are you coming with that? He was only being asked to work under a different Team President and we know that he went to Beeston with deals. There's nothing to suggest a demotion.

Just my assumption, quite possibly wrong, that I based of the westhead tweet. If Shapiro wants significant input on baseball operations then it's a demotion. I wouldn't really blame either side. You hire a new president, he's going to want to run things his way, just how the team performed after his hiring makes for very bad PR.

That isn't what that means in the slightest. Building your farm system is how you produce a long term contender. Not a one year wonder

My name is swing at first pitch and make Harold Reynolds happy I came when we traded our Cy Young winner for prospects

My name is Center field athletic guy with 7 WAR I came when we traded our Cy Young winner for prospects

My name is Alex Rios I just showed up for the party

My name is Ben Zobrist, I get on base and am old... what am i doing here again?

My name is big fat cuban guy who hit ball far... I did not come from the farm system.

I agree with this, as long as it doesn't provide a distraction (i.e., Gibbons feels more loyal to AA than the new guy, etc.). I'm wondering if the core of this roster is veteran enough to serve as that continuity.

Because we all know that GM's control the payroll.
