gbill2004 Verified Member Posted January 15, 2016 Posted January 15, 2016 Nats will give the difference between Revere and Storen's arb Are you positive it was the difference, or was it a straight $2 million?
Cyborg Verified Member Posted January 15, 2016 Posted January 15, 2016 Having Delabar on board for only 800k is a good choice. The guy still throws hard and can be a mop-up guy at worst. 2.9 million for a dead guy is absurd What makes you think he's dead? $2.9M for a 2 WAR LF is great.
Cyborg Verified Member Posted January 15, 2016 Posted January 15, 2016 Are you positive it was the difference, or was it a straight $2 million? It was to make the salaries equal, I believe.

Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted January 15, 2016 Posted January 15, 2016 Saunders feels like an overpayment. The dude played like 10 games last year ....but the upside. I don't want to see you cheering for him in october.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted January 15, 2016 Posted January 15, 2016 $1.05m for Loup. Jays have gone over MLBTR's projection on nearly everyone so far (Saunders got the same as projected).
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted January 15, 2016 Posted January 15, 2016 What makes you think he's dead? $2.9M for a 2 WAR LF is great. Because he's missing nearly half his knee. He's no longer the same athlete he once was.

Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted January 15, 2016 Posted January 15, 2016 storen was projected to get $8.8 million. the nats saved half a million. iftfy

KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted January 15, 2016 Posted January 15, 2016 The Jays would know more about Saunders health than any of us. If he were truly f***ed, they would have cut him. Now that doesn't mean we shoudn't be cautious in our expectations but if the Jays felt comfortable not only paying him but also jettisoning Revere than there's got to be SOMETHING there.

Either MLBTR lowballed the Jays players or whoever is handling the arb. on the Jays is doing a bad job. Couple hundred K doesn't seem like much but when you do that for 4 or 5 players it can be the difference of a decent reliever.

They beat Storen's projection but they get reimbursed the difference between Storen and Revere anyway. So far, they have lost a little under $700k between actual and projected figures for Cecil, Saunders, Delabar, and Loup. I won't count Smoak since they may have been factoring his projected arb total from 2015 before he got non-tendered into the equation, in which case MLBTR would have lowballed that.

The higher than normal inflation we're seeing might be creeping into the arbitration process a little bit too.

I think giving Smoak 3.9 was still a mistake even if the projected arb. was incorrect. Seems if they non-tendered him they could of got him for 3 Million or less. There really wasn't a FA market for Smoak.

I thought I saw a tweet about a week ago from 1 of the Toronto writers that Saunders was ready, feels great. Hes has been working out with no side affects.

You can't trust CC to give you half of what he gave you last year, he's not that good of a baseball player. You want EE to be the DH, 1st base as a last resort.

Frenchsoup Verified Member Posted January 15, 2016 Posted January 15, 2016 That does not mean you have to give him 3.9 Million... Well... the Jays know the numbers better then we do. That seems like a fair price to me, especially considering he only made 1 million last year.

That seems like a fair price to me, especially considering he only made 1 million last year. I just don't see how Smoak had leverage in negotiations. Of all the teams needing 1st baseman the Blue Jays were the best opportunity. If the Jays offered 2.5 or 3 Million Smoak likely takes that.
