What if they don't want to sign with the Blue Jays or other teams offer much more? It's hard to come up with action plans without knowing what each player wants.

Also, how did you get the Iwakuma comp?

I've read the comp a few times.

In this article he's compared to Aaron Nola, Kenshin Kawakami, Hiroki Kuroda, and Hisashi Iwakuma.

http://thedynastyguru.com/2015/03/22/2015-npb-prospect-rankings-nos-1-5/

"Featuring a fastball that touches 95 and 3 above average to plus pitches in a slider, curve, and change up with exceptional command, he could be a No. 3 starter on most MLB teams as of this moment. Think a younger Hisashi Iwakuma and you get Kenta Maeda. Since his 2009, he hasn’t recorded a K/BB ratio worse than 3.78, and has tossed at least 175 innings."

Thanks King, hopefully he's the reason that all of Cleveland's pitching prospects are getting developed to be saber strong. I would love to see that approach here.

I doubt one guy in the org is the reason for anything. The way Cleveland is developing isn't necessarily the right way, they don't have many guys outperforming there peripherals. So maybe their saber strong ways, aren't that.

We just need to do what Cleveland did, take two scrubby org guys (Kluber and Carrasco) and miraculously morph them into slam-dunk aces.

We've already done the better version of that.

Take two DFA'ed org guys in their late 20s and miraculously morph them into elite hitters?

Yup. We should do it again.

When we're looking back in 5 years, it will be a damn shame if we can never capitalize on that (unless you consider making an ALCS some sort of crowning achievement).

AA got a miraculous once in a career gift from the baseball gods twice in a span of two years. We might never see anything like that again on this team.

Donaldson and Travis were both gifts if you think about it.

And remember when he almost f***ed it all to hell?

He just HAD to make room on the roster for Jarrett Hauffpauir.

You guys think there's any chance Votto is available?

Cot's Baseball has his contract as such

10 years/$225M (2014-23), plus 2024 club option

signed extension with Cincinnati 4/3/12

14:$12M, 15:$14M, 16:$20M, 17:$22M, 18-23:$25M annually, 24:$20M club option ($7M buyout)

award bonuses, including $75,000 for All-Star selection

full no-trade clause

If Cincy is looking to unload a contract like his, maybe the prospects going back wouldn't be as much?

Votto is definitely available. Sounds like Cincy is going to have a fire sale.

I think they'll still be able to get some good prospects. Votto is a top 5 hitter in all of baseball and even with the contract some team will give up a premium just to get the bat.
