Thought I had heard that both Cespedes and Chris Davis would be FA this year. With the extra $ that Rogers has earned and what could be earned with full houses every game and the other revenue generated via post season and other retail sales, would not both be nice additions which would cover 1B and the outfield (Cespedes, Pillar and JB whose arm will be fine by Spring).

No guarantee that TD will actually recover as it is troublesome to see an athlete take so long to recover from being struck in the chest by a ball. May be something deeper involved. Keep Goins either way.

With spending on two good players like Cespedes and Davis (no idea of their clubhouse demeanor however) that frees up a number of players for trades or by not signing Price (who knows his demands) and dropping RAD/Thole there are a lot of options available for AA to work with.

Without C the Mets are not in WS. Let Tulo heal and get acclimated more to the AL and he should rebound.

Not sure who might be available as a catcher but DN might be inclined to resign based on what is more important -- $, playing time or maybe another shot at WS depending upon what else is done.

Look back at all the changes made between '92 & '93 and while the first win had a terrific team, the second improved on it and if Rogers can be persuaded (they are businessmen and the profits have spoken which often make the prophets look like geniuses) to open the purse strings there could be an awesome team built from the FA market and some trades of pieces that the team could then part with. No need to just look at what is here and be satisfied.

As many have pointed out, there is a lot of opportunities to get some really fine additional players in this off season and it should be a lot of fun in the next 4 months so Mets take care of business in 4 and let the fun begin.

Heyward scares me a bit, so much of his value is tied up in his legs. When those start to go, he's probably a 2-3 WAR player. I feel like someone is really gonna regret the back end of his contract.

Give a Greinke style opt-out after 4 years, and when inflation hits and he thinks he's worth even more he'll take it.

The way I see it the Jays are in a pretty precarious position with Jose and Edwin being FA's following next year. If I'm in charge, I spend large on a FA pitcher to anchor the staff. Stroman looks much better as a #2. Put Osuna as the 5th guy in the rotation. The lineup is fine the way it is with Cola at 1st, and Travis at 2nd (with a built-in backup in Goins). Carry Dalton as a 4th OF but cycle Jose, Edwin, and Cola at 1B/DH when rest is needed. This paves the way to Jose at 1B if you want to resign him for a few years. Shore up the BP with a top end addition and a mid-range addition, so you can use Sanchez there to start the year, but have him available if you need another starter.

Then you let it roll. Things go right, you have a nice shot at the playoffs. Things go wrong (or injuries hit), trade Jose and Edwin and you are already WAY down the line on a re-build with Donaldson and Tulo to anchor your middle of the order.

The one thing we can't afford to be next year is 'fringy' come the trade deadline. That's why you have to go all in with a top of the rotation starter rather than a few good value wild cards. If we are 'sort of in it' at the deadline, keep Jose and Edwin, and don't make the playoffs, its a disaster.

By the time that happens, he'll probably have accrued more than enough excess value to easily cover his decline IMO. He's still just 26.

one bad leg injury could kill his value though. Thats the risk when you are giving out the $200 million+ contracts

I don't really see how Heyward's value is tied to his legs. He's an excellent defender, and even as he expectedly declines in that aspect he should still be comfortably above average (Alex Gordon is much older and still elite). He's a great athlete and seems to keep himself in excellent shape. I also believe that there's also untapped monster potential in that bat, but even if he doesn't break out he's still likely a consistent 110-120 wRC+ bat.

The reason Travis took so long to recover is that he had four cysts in his chest which were causing the pain. Once they were drained and removed he started feeling really good again from what I've read/heard. There's no reason to think there's a lingering issue. They couldn't have found the cysts without doing the exploratory surgery.

This is a weird thing to say. Sure he's a good baserunner and defender, but he's also a really good hitter. He does everything well. His baseball instincts wouldn't be ruined by one big injury.

Physical decline or major injury can harm or ruin the career of any pro athlete.

If anything, Heyward's broad skill-set makes him a safer bet for long term investment. Even if we fast-forward to 2025 when he'll be Carlos Betran slow, Heyward should still be useful. Heck - look at Beltran himself! Super comparable talent to Heyward, and he's aged like a fine cheese.

Doubt we can outbid LA or NYY for Heyward.

I don't think the Jays would have to outbid LAD for him.

There's just so many GM's on the hot seat, dealing with the different directions of there franchise.Like Preller, that guy is a crazy dude. Could he do anything close to an encore? Knowing we are the top or one of the top, is a pretty awesome feeling.

Seems like the type of player they would jump all over.

yeah except that they have a surplus of OF they are paying for - both on their roster and on other team's

the dodgers said they want to get younger and the yankees desperately need to get younger and have some big contracts off soon...I don't see how the jays in the market for heyward.

I think the phillies interest me the most....they have a lot of dough to spend and if they buy out lee for 12.5 mil they have Howard at 25 mil with one year left and their next highest paid player is Harrison at 11 mil. This is a club used to bumping the luxury tax and they are a long ways off that.

they are still on the hook for some partials IIRC for hamels... nonetheless, is there another team with less on the books? they've really done a lot to clear everything out

Has that stopped them before?

The jays are declining the $3 mil option on Maicer Izturis right?

Isn't he going to be our starting 2B next year?
