bluejays12 Verified Member Posted October 8, 2015 Posted October 8, 2015 In a short series first game esp at home is huge.
art_vandelay275 Verified Member Posted October 8, 2015 Posted October 8, 2015 Man, some of you guys need to stop with the narratives. Please. Price was kinda s*** today - that's it. Dude has thrown over 225 innings this year. It happens. Jays couldn't muster many big hits - that's it. Teams lose. It's no different than any other loss except that you're all wound tighter than springs (me included of course). It's loss number 70 out of 163 games. And no, home field advantage wouldn't have changed anything for anyone still banging on about that. The Jays would still be going up against a good baseball team and would still have had a chance at losing against the Astros too. What does HFA even have to do with any of this anyway? The Jays lost at home in Game 1 of a series they already held HFA over. i for one am not harping on HFA but on the other hand, i do know that baseball for a long time now is a game of match-ups. Whether we win or lose this series, and i am not conceding anything at this point, Hamels or not, is that the Rangers is a tough match up for us - specifically how essentially they have 2 aces based on how we do against Gallardo. On the other end of the spectrum, you can say we match up well against Yanks and Royals. "Stros are debatable So from a _match up_ point of view, Rangers is not the most ideal... IMO
JFD Old-Timey Member Posted October 8, 2015 Posted October 8, 2015 "It's loss number 70 out of 163 games" umm no.. it's loss number 1 of the post season.
Statman Verified Member Posted October 8, 2015 Posted October 8, 2015 Yeah, honestly I don't think there's anything to get up in arms about in this game... if we made silly errors and failed to execute on certain plays, made mental mistakes, Gibby makes a wrong decision on something, etc. then there would be something to be mad about, but overall there wasn't really any of that today. We just simply didn't play well. It's really best to just accept that and move on... The thing that strikes me the most is the momentum factor. It got destroyed the final week of the season when they just packed it in. That narrative seems to be playing out.

Daniel Labude Jays Centre Contributor Posted October 8, 2015 Posted October 8, 2015 Tomorrow must win Simple as that Win and you're right back in it Yep, need a great all around Team win!!!!
Baseball Player Verified Member Posted October 8, 2015 Posted October 8, 2015 Why the f*** did we have to rest price 11 days and the rest of our lineup like they clinched the league record. I was salty about that then and I'm salty about that now. Absolutely inexcusable. Grounds to fire gibbons if we get eliminated this round.
polar bear Verified Member Posted October 8, 2015 Posted October 8, 2015 Rangers were damn lucky EE just missed one. There were so many lined grounders right to them with men on. Tulo missed one too Tulo,a huge disappointment since coming to Toronto, may have been better him taking another few weeks off. Adds nothing
EMK19 Verified Member Posted October 8, 2015 Posted October 8, 2015 The think that strikes me the most is the momentum factor. It got destroyed the final week of the season when they just packed it in. That does somewhat worry me how we stumbled into the playoffs, but I guess another way to look at it is that ever since the deadline deals we never really had any prolonged losing streaks (at least with our starting lineup playing)... every time the team lost, it was very quick to get back to its feet and we rarely lost back to back games. I liked how they performed in the face of adversity in the second half this year and hopefully this continues on in this series. If this team has what it takes to win then they'll come back to get the job done. Our 1992 team for example lost game one in both ALCS and WS and came back to win three straight after that...
art_vandelay275 Verified Member Posted October 8, 2015 Posted October 8, 2015 Did MLB ever state the reason why the roof was closed? Was the weather in TO a factor?

The nature of the game and the players involved doesn't change because some arbitrary significance is added to it. Your likelihood of winning or losing at the tables isn't any different just because you've decided to bet your whole purse. It's just... the game. That's all it ever is.
Daniel Labude Jays Centre Contributor Posted October 8, 2015 Posted October 8, 2015 Lol, no it isn't. Depends what the circumstances are
thatoneguy Old-Timey Member Posted October 8, 2015 Posted October 8, 2015 Depends what the circumstances are No it f***ing doesn't. It's not grounds for a firing, period.
Daniel Labude Jays Centre Contributor Posted October 8, 2015 Posted October 8, 2015 No it f***ing doesn't. It's not grounds for a firing, period. He should be fired unless we win the world series in my opinion
BTS Community Moderator Posted October 8, 2015 Posted October 8, 2015 No it f***ing doesn't. It's not grounds for a firing, period. Especially considering Price's schedule would have been a group decision that involved Price, Walker, Gibbons, and Anthopoulos.
thatoneguy Old-Timey Member Posted October 8, 2015 Posted October 8, 2015 He should be fired unless we win the world series in my opinion And how much is your opinion valued here?
TheHurl Site Manager Posted October 8, 2015 Posted October 8, 2015 The Yankees lost their first game against the Rangers in the ALDS at home in 1996. They went on to win the World Series. ---fakewilner Pretty sure the 81 Dodgers (f*** Rick Monday) did as well.
Baseball Player Verified Member Posted October 8, 2015 Posted October 8, 2015 Lol, no it isn't. I've never seen a team that actually was in 1st place in the league lay off the gas pedal like that in my life. It totally killed our momentum, not to mention the better matchups + HFA we would of had. The only game they should of had off was the 2nd game of the double header.

Texas is not a better team than Houston.

Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted October 8, 2015 Posted October 8, 2015 So, what are some examples of teams in the LDS who lost the first game but came back to win series? Anyone know off hand? Cardinals came back from a 1-0 series defecit in 2012. Giants came back from a 2-0 series defecit in 2012. Cardinals came back from a 2-0 series defecit in 2011 also.
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted October 8, 2015 Posted October 8, 2015 Stopped reading after bolded. Because it covered it all.
thatoneguy Old-Timey Member Posted October 8, 2015 Posted October 8, 2015 How much does anyone opinion here actual influence what the Jays ultimately do Irrelevant question to this discussion.
Followthelight Verified Member Posted October 8, 2015 Posted October 8, 2015 Better matchups? Texas is not a better team than Houston. Yes they are by a good margin....imo. Rangers are prob the most dangerous team in the AL now.
Baseball Player Verified Member Posted October 8, 2015 Posted October 8, 2015 These are professional athletes. They work what? 30 hours a week for 8 months of the year playing baseball? There is no excuse for them to need that much rest at the end of the season when something was on the line.

nextyear Verified Member Posted October 8, 2015 Posted October 8, 2015 So, what are some examples of teams in the LDS who lost the first game but came back to win series? Anyone know off hand? There are actually many examples of the home team losing the first game and then coming back to win the series (quite often in 3 straight games). Here is the Wikipedia link, if you are interested you can click on the yearly series - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_League_Division_Series. However, what happened in past series between different teams has no influence on what happens in this series. I think if the Blue Jays win tomorrow then they have the ability to win the series in 4 games (3 straight wins). I am glad that the game is early tomorrow so there won't be much time waiting around for it.
