Daniel Labude Jays Centre Contributor Posted June 12, 2022 Posted June 12, 2022 Palmegianni and Nunez at single A are both kind of killing it. I wonder if one or both get the bump soonish. Maybe after guys from the FCL get promoted. Probably looking at the start of July if they keep with promotion timeliness like last season Both have been really really good in their own ways

Nice to see Palmegianni doing well. Kid’s got some pop.

A solid month for guys in the FCL to show enough to get promoted.

Laika Community Moderator Posted June 13, 2022 Posted June 13, 2022 I see Groshans played 1B yesterday, Whats up with that?? Is it just cause the Jays like their guys being more versatile? Probably. Just getting him some reps in case injuries happen?
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted June 13, 2022 Posted June 13, 2022 Probably. Just getting him some reps in case injuries happen? Groshans probably being showcased.
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted June 13, 2022 Posted June 13, 2022 Groshans probably being showcased. Showcased at a less important position than the one he plays normally that is pretty important?

John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted June 14, 2022 Posted June 14, 2022 Showcasing his versatility. You really think people are inquiring on Groshans for trade, whos still playing the majority of innings at SS, then 3b and they're interested, but wonder "can he play 1st?"

Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted June 14, 2022 Posted June 14, 2022 Groshans probably the most expendable guy. Hard to see a path to regular MLB AB for him in the next 2-3 years.

This is true, but I'm not sure what we'd be trading for right now. Don't see too many weak spots in the roster right now except for high leverage bullpen guys, and I don't think you're trading top prospects for bullpen arms.

If they're gonna add a piece of consequence and the payment is going to be a meaningful prospect, Groshans is the guy I'm hoping gets moved over one of the other Top 5

If Ryu is done, another starter will be a target I'd think.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted June 14, 2022 Posted June 14, 2022 I could definitely see the Jays trading Groshans. What type of value does he have is the question.
Eat My Shatkins Verified Member Posted June 14, 2022 Posted June 14, 2022 If Ryu is done, another starter will be a target I'd think. Yeah I suppose. I mean they don't really need one right now, not with the way Strip is pitching. But another starter goes down and I don't see any good long term replacement in Buffalo right now. Lawrence, Kay, Hatch and Francis on the 40 man, I'd rather see Castillo if that scenario pops up but he's pretty young, just got to AAA and isn't on the 40 man. Of course, If Ryu is toast for the rest of his contract (TJS) then I hope the Jays go big game hunting for another high end starter with some control left. Someone like Mahle or Castillo.
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted June 14, 2022 Posted June 14, 2022 If Ryu is done, another starter will be a target I'd think. I think we'd probably target a depth guy like Chad Kuhl barring any further health issues. Andrew Benintendi seems like the guy if we were to trade Groshans, but I could also see a high end reliever.

Especially with Teo and Gurriel back hitting again?

I think they would for the right arm with multiple years on control, if he were available.
Laika Community Moderator Posted June 14, 2022 Posted June 14, 2022 Add to Groshans and shoot for Staumont and Benintendi
Dagagad Verified Member Posted June 14, 2022 Posted June 14, 2022 Is groshans credible at SS? I don’t see why he can’t be a bench piece in the biggio/tapia mode next year or later this year. If he can play SS especially. I think I’d rather keep him and see if he grows into power.

If he can play SS especially. He might be able to play SS a bit but you never see scouts project him as a shortstop. It's always 3B.
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted June 14, 2022 Posted June 14, 2022 Should we really be trading a top 50 prospect for a rental outfielder? Especially with Teo and Gurriel back hitting again? Perhaps not, but I think he's one of the best fits out there for us with his lefty bat, ability to play CF, and postseason experience. There will be at-bats for him when it counts.
Dagagad Verified Member Posted June 14, 2022 Posted June 14, 2022 He might be able to play SS a bit but you never see scouts project him as a shortstop. It's always 3B. I wish he batted leftie. I honestly would prefer him to biggio on the roster. He can play one more position credibly, he seems to also have a good eye but a better hit tool. I also would like to wait on the power.

Benito Verified Member Posted June 14, 2022 Posted June 14, 2022 Should we really be trading a top 50 prospect for a rental outfielder? Especially with Teo and Gurriel back hitting again? I wouldn't. But I'm a fan of Groshans, so might be a little bias. He's also good insurance for 2024, when Chapman could become a free agent. But it wouldn't surprise me to see him in included in a trade at the deadline. I'm sure rebuilding teams covet a talent like Groshans.
Eat My Shatkins Verified Member Posted June 14, 2022 Posted June 14, 2022 I do see how Groshans might be seen as expendable though. He's in AAA but blocked by Chapman this year and next, and coming right behind him in AA is Orelvis who is more highly touted. Both projected to be 3B at the MLB level.
Dagagad Verified Member Posted June 14, 2022 Posted June 14, 2022 No. Biggio >> Groshans at this time and for some time yet. I’d trade biggio tomorrow if we could get something good for him. I’m not going as far as Keith law but I think he is just too exploitable. He also can’t play third or short, which in my opinion hurts his value as a utility guy. Biggio is also 27 with three more years of arb. Give me groshans at 700k for 3 years and more upside.
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted June 14, 2022 Posted June 14, 2022 How would we feel about dealing Groshans for an elite reliever with control like David Bednar?
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted June 14, 2022 Posted June 14, 2022 Benintendi f***ing sucks guys. Limp noodle bat and he can't play CF.
