Prospect lists go by "rookie status" for the purposes of lists he will never be on a ranking

Okay, I never knew that but it makes sense

I was thinking that Luciano could end up being one of the Jays better pitching prospects but I guess we will never see him on any rankings even though he may spend a year or two in the minors

If he improves I think you'll see him as a footnote on all rankings with a "If eligible..." ranking.

Fangraphs' Astros prospect list came out today and old friend Cal Stevenson made the cut, barely.

Stevenson is relatively positionless but he has great contact and on base skills. His numbers are likely inflated due to his age relative to level, but the industry undervalued him during his draft year because of injury, so it’s possible we’re seeing something closer to the real Stevenson now. He’s a fourth outfielder type of prospect if this is real.

Can't believe they had to include this fourth outfield type of prospect in the Sanchez trade!!!

BA came out with its first 2020 draft list. Here is No. 2, including age of player as of draft day:

Ht: 6-4 | Wt: 215 | B-T: R-R

I remember so many people were butthurt about him being included too.

Stevenson and Sanchize were clearly the answer. Jayzzz will regret that deal.

Mostly the same people who are still butthurt about not getting “one more piece” for Stroman.

I don't think it was the players we gave up that was the issue, more so that many people thought/think Fisher sucks.

It would have been nice to get something for nothing but that’s not really how the universe works, gloryhole

So if the Jays simply released Sanchez/Biagini, and had Stevenson in the system instead of Fisher on the 40 man roster, is this team better, worse, or the same?

If the answer to that is anything other than "better", then why are you surprised that people didn't like the trade?

Now I happen to think Fisher actually has some intriguing qualities (power, walks, speed), but unless he pulls a Justin Smoak 2017 out of no where, this was a nothing trade at best.

You think Cal Stevenson for Derek Fisher is an even MLB trade? Lol alrighty then.

No of course between the two Fisher is more likely to become a MLB player (he's already in the bigs and Stevenson is in A ball). In isolation the deal is fine. It's the fact that there's a good chance Fisher sucks + has no options left that made people question the trade. I don't think anyone thinks Stevenson was too high of a price to pay, just that Fisher probably isn't worth all that much regardless.

But like I said, power + walks is a good combo. He might be a little tweak away from becoming something. Still think it was a nothing trade.

I almost think Stevenson is more likely to hit his ceiling than Fisher. The problem is that his ceiling is basically light hitting corner outfielder/4th outfielder, not really a very exciting profile.

Stevenson is EXACTLY the kind of piece we should have gotten as a throw in in that trade.. A guy who is probably nothing but with some small chance he contributes down the road.

I mean, the Astros got a guy like Stevenson as a throw in in the Sanchez trade.

They got two top 100 prospects for a year and a half of Marcus Stroman lol. A C+ prospect does not move the needle at all

Yep.. Those "1 more piece" takes were so annoying then and more annoying with the benefit of hindsight.

C+ prospect is being very generous to Stevenson.

Imagine if the Blue Jays miss the playoffs by 1 game in 2025. Think of what that one more piece might have been worth!

Ranfy Adon would have made it home if they had him as a pinch runner

By MLB pipeline, both Kay and Woods Richardson both rate as 50 value prospects at this point in their development. According to the hybrid prospect values in this article the Jays obtained about $52 million in prospect value in the Stroman trade:

Why we should give half a f*** about not getting back a $2 million value prospect as well is something that's beyond me. That's like buying a Subway sub for $10 and worrying about not getting your 5 cents of change back afterwards.

5 cents to ten dollars is 0.2%

$2 Million to $50 millions 4.0%

Whatever man, main point still stands whether your Subway change is 40 cents instead of 5. This is a trade that returned a very near MLB ready left handed starter with nice stuff, who is a potential mid-rotation starter in the very near future, as well as a super young right handed starter who just murdered the competition across various levels. To complain about the trade because it doesn't have a most likely worthless filler prospect is silly.

Yes, but it’s very rare for that 5 cents to turn out to be a late round diamond in the rough batting champ.
