Horwitz the strong side platoon DH?

Then maybe get some passable corner OF type that can mash lefties to pair with him?

Sounds like a job for Mark Canha if Milwaukee declines his option

Or Jorge Soler. I wonder if he gets three years? Feels risky but the Jays could use some more upside

Yeah I agree. He does seem risky but the upside is there.

If we truly want to add more power he's a good fit. Horwitz/Canha is probably just as good offensively and also provides some defensive value (Canha in particular) but it's more AVG/OBP. Soler could hit double the amount of homers as those two.

If we did sign him we might as well trade Horwitz. I think a cheap team might be interested in 3 pre-arb years of a guy like him.

Interesting. Wonder how easy it is to identify that kind of difference at 60 feet in real time with that kind of deception in the delivery

To me it's the positioning of his chin that sticks out way more. Fastball his head is tilted further backwards

Yup the chin is a big giveaway too. If you break down the pitches from the tweet above you can really see how he gets on top of the front leg as sort of a catapult action on the fastball (stiff front leg and chin reared back) and the change up he stays back on with a lower angle on the block leg

He’s getting by with good enough stuff even at the AFL level but that would get exposed at the big league level I’d think

True, still I wonder how it looks in real time. Even the guy in the article said he had to pause video to identify the tell.

It's probably a lot harder to do from the batters box with a deceptive delivery and no pause button

But, it is something I'm sure he's working on. If some reporter noticed it, guaranteed the performance complex and other teams have too

I’m not sure what you’re trying to say. Of course it’s easier to see on a screen with a pause button than in real time.

He’s also apparently sitting 92-93

What I mean is, if the change in release point isnt noticeable enough in real time from 60 feet away....it's not much of a concern.

Gurriel Jr has really good numbers against lefties and is league average against righties. Plus bringing him back might get the other Jr going.

Sure why not

Passed this info along to the proper authorities

Not being an insider I don't know for sure, but I feel like it's not just identifying the 'tells' but turning them into actionable strategies to improve results.

Guys would have to be exposed to a lot of video, and some drills maybe to recognize the pitches in real time. Like even simple stuff like watching on a big screen over and over again.

If there are some variation in innate ability to recognize the tells in real time, this itself may be a skill that will start being selected for. You wonder if the divergence of the Jays and Braves offense is partly because the Braves are ahead of the curve on this stuff.

Related: On Gausman. I think it's not so much that he is tipping, but that he is mostly two pitches, so might be easier to identify and learn two tips, rather than have to worry about 4. Which is why I will always be a bit worried him in a big game which the opposition has had a chance and motivation to prep bigtime for.

I honestly think it’s sort of crazy to think big league hitters wouldn’t be able to take advantage of tells like this

Tipping pitches can easily be explained as release point or arm action, which teams identify and then take advantage of

I would argue a proactive approach to correcting this would be a good plan

Tiedmann is being traded this winter in a blockbuster trade in an effort for Atkins to save himself so I wouldn't worry about it

I can see it

I never suggested otherwise. Being as unidentifiably unpredictable as possible just makes sense

Tiedemann and Orelvis for Brenton Doyle
