InsideThePark Verified Member Posted August 17, 2023 Posted August 17, 2023 5 HR in 5 games. It's absolutely silly that Jace fell to the 6th round and borderline insane that he only managed slot money in the 6th round. He might be our 6th best prospect right now and I don't think it'll be long before he's well above that too.

InsideThePark Verified Member Posted August 17, 2023 Posted August 17, 2023 He even took a few k under slot I think the reported figure was 2500 under slot which was likely the 2500 trick that teams use that I don't really understand but there were a few guys the Jays signed that were reported 2500 below a nice even number or slot(O'Halloran 337,500, Bohrofen and Goodwin 2500 underslot, Barry 147,500, Mollerus 47,500, Shaw 282,500). It was likely exactly slot with 2500 technically not counting because of this weird rule.

Teams are/were very concerned with the swing and miss in his game and the lack of projection on any other tool. Average runner, average arm, swings and misses a lot. BA has the hit tool at 40, power at 55. If he cleans up the swing and miss he could end up being a steal.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted August 17, 2023 Posted August 17, 2023 Would it be crazy for the Jays to move Bohrofen up to A+ ball already? His ISO is .842 and his wRC+ is 307. That's f***ing insane.

That's f***ing insane. Maybe give him more than 25 PAs before moving him up but it’s not unrealistic to think they could get him up to Vancouver before seasons end. Never hurts to have another bat for the playoffs. Peyton Williams has been smoking everything since he came back from injury too on a side note. .364/.421/.576 in August over 37 PAs. 2 HR, 4 walks, 6 Ks.

Benito Verified Member Posted August 17, 2023 Posted August 17, 2023 The farm system is hot hot hot Such a great turnaround from earlier in the year, when things looked grim, and following the minor league scoreboards was a dive into depression. Some really good high upside prospects have since emerged. I'd say the system is looking quite healthy going forward.
Olerud363 Old-Timey Member Posted August 17, 2023 Posted August 17, 2023 Man, I'll take Todd Frazier. Yeah realistically. Where was Todd Frazier as a minor leaguer (looks it up). Was in Rookie ball as a 21 year old, didn't reach aaa until 23, had less power, never hit 20 homeruns in the minors. Hit .280 in the minors. Hit .230 with a 40 home run year in the majors. Orelvis is coming at this from the opposite direction as Frazier. If there was a guy that started young, had massive power, had fluky low batting averages, and was destined to become a super star because his averages were both fluky and a couple of adjustments and a bit of experience away from improving a lot... that guy would look like Martinez. Not saying Martinez is that guy, or that guy has even existed but if ever the baseball gods wanted justice they would do this... 1. We will first them Vladimir Guerrero Jr. a .400 hitter in double a, and he will end up a .260 0 WAR guy in 160 games at age 24, it will be funny. 2. Then we will give them Overlvis Martinez, a .200 hitter in double a, and he will end up a .260 5 WAR guy in 160 games at age 24, because the .200 was fluke, the massive power, some walks, and the ability to play defense and base running at a neutral level.

I would love to see Orelvis blossom Of course if we are being honest I'd probably even accept and be a bit happy with Pedro Alvarez. That is to say... just give me a couple of league average seasons while you are cheap! Martinez just kind of feels like found money to me at this point. We all had him nearly written off. So if he becomes a productive big leaguer AT ALL, even if it's just for a couple of years, it will be nice.

metafour Verified Member Posted August 17, 2023 Posted August 17, 2023 Alen Roden: absurdly high hand position in setup and upright stance. No idea he batted like that LOL. Weak flyout to RF. Jimenez looks pretty stout and hit one well to LF for a flyout. Tiedemann was pulled after 3.2 innings (pitch count) after a single and a walk. Fluharty came in and kind of stunk, so both of Tieddemann's runners scored. Tiedemann was 94/95 with the fastball before getting pulled and threw some nice offspeed pitches that missed some bats. Fluharty looks very meh to me; only 88-90 on the fastball according to the broadcast.

metafour Verified Member Posted August 17, 2023 Posted August 17, 2023 TJ Brock looks much better than Fluharty. High 80's slider was overpowering. Saw him him 97 with the fastball.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted August 17, 2023 Posted August 17, 2023 Orelvis Martinez is playing Second Base for the first time in his professional career tonight. Also Bo Bichette is playing SS for Buffalo tonight and he's already 2-2 with a Homer and is hitting .800 on his rehab stint.

metafour Verified Member Posted August 18, 2023 Posted August 18, 2023 Alan Roden in a double-header: 5 for 7, 2 2B, 1 K Now hitting .301 with an .844 OPS in AA
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted August 18, 2023 Posted August 18, 2023 Im honestly shocked Bichette is back playing SS this soon after the injury. Looked like he was toast for the season
wamco Verified Member Posted August 18, 2023 Posted August 18, 2023 I was at wednesdays bisons game where he scored from 1st on a hit. After he scored and walked to the dugout, you could see his knee still wasn’t 100 pct
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted August 18, 2023 Posted August 18, 2023 Holy crap, you're right. The Angels already have Nolan Schanuel in AA! 60 PA's and a wRC+ of 160 Wyatt Langford is in A+ ball with a 218 wRC+ in 40 PA's and the Angels just called up Nolan Schanuel after 21 games in the minors!!! holy crap
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted August 18, 2023 Posted August 18, 2023 and the Angels just called up Nolan Schanuel after 21 games in the minors!!! holy crap 27 hits, 21 walks in 96 PA…only 10 Ks. That’s impressive, small sample or not. Not a ton of power shown but that OBP is ridiculous

Good to see a 3rd round college bat hitting in his first taste of the upper minors. Not sure if the profile is overly exciting as a corner OF/1B/DH only guy though, unless he can start to get to a bit more in game power. Clearly has some strong bat to ball skills though, he'll be in the MLB depth picture before too long if he keeps this up.
