honestly why even have Tiedemann pitch in the minors

he can probably throw like 130 innings this year

just put him on a plan to throw 100 as a SP then finish out the year in the pen

Some reasons:

1- He looked great, but it was just one inning.

2- If Kikuchi and White and other depth options suck, we will probably see him Tiedemann in 2023. But if Kikuchi starts performing like a respectable #4, then the rotation would be full barring an injury or a trade.

3- While Tiedemann could be better than most of the pitchers in the current rotation, he is not on the 40 man roster. There is some asset management aspect to the decision.

What scenario would have to happen to see Tiedemann break camp with the Jays though?

Top 4 are as written in stone as it gets, and if Kikuchi has a spring that is even close to his first outing, he's the #5. Then Ryu comes back late in the season... no way he pitches out of the pen... there would have to be at least 1 long term injury to the starting 5, or kikuchi would have to lay a giant egg for the rest of ST for them to even consider using Tiedemann out of the gate, especially with him being good for about 130ish innings for the entire season.

Agreed. Something significant needs to happen for Tiedemann to pitch in Toronto. If Kikuchi becomes reasonably effective, then there is simply no room for him barring an injury or a trade. It is not the worst outcome for him to build up his innings load in AA and AAA throughout 2023.

At least 2 injuries...

Bassitt is still throwing 88 at the end of spring then goes of the IL with the kiss of death "forearm soreness" (soon to be TJ).

Another starter does down for some reason.

I think if if you lose 2 starters they seriously consider having Ricky break camp.

Odds are stacked against him starting the year in Toronto but he’s going to be viewed the same as the Phillies view Andrew Painter. Elite arm on a contender ready to insert into the rotation when an opportunity presents itself. Could either be injury or performance.

Having guys like Barger and Tiedemann turn into core pieces would be like Strider and Harris with Atlanta last year.

Aim higher. a left handed Jose Fernandez.

Wow! Why stop there? The next Randy Johnson

Jimmy Robbins must have been giving the pitch fx trouble, according to his 3d map today, he throws his 4 seam fastball at 89, his sinker 92-94, changeup at 89 and slider at 89.

That’s some weird ass s***.

Needs to kill a bird first.

Who would be the modern-day version of Kruk for him to scare the s*** out of?

Nah, Kruk was far better than those guys, bodies are similar, I guess Schwarber could reach his WAR, different hitters though.

Brick white men who hit from the left side in a Phillies uniform

Who’s better Brandon Belt or Kyle Schwarber

Certainly the latter if you mean for 2023.

Body is all that matters in this instance. Get a rotund lefty bat up there against Tiedemann and set him loose.

Yup. Chunky, dirty and scared of head-high heat is all I was thinking about...lol.

Keep him away from boats.. or helicopters. Boats AND helicopters. Actually, piloting any type of aircraft or water vehicle.

Listening to the mlb pipeline and they did some off the cuff rankings of the NL and AL east farm systems. We were 5th ahead of the yanks and red sox. Kind of surprising.

The impression im getting from a lot of different prospect guys is that they seem to like whatÂ’s coming up from A ball and below.
