Yeah I don't think it's a stretch to say that some of those pitches would have made guys in the majors look silly never mind the level he's at now.

Definitely not going to jinx it because he's probably getting pulled soon anyway but 7 innings no hitter god Trent Palmer is perfect through 6 innings with 8 K's

Yep, Palmer taken out after 6 perfect innings and a 7-0 lead

Some intriguing under the radar prospects, now that we're a month in:

High-A:

Trent Palmer today in High-A: 6IP, 0H, 0ER, 0BB, 8K. Drops his season ERA to 1.69 through 4 starts. If he keeps this up, he'll probably be at AA really soon since he's already 23 years old too.

AA:

24-year-old Tanner Morris went 3-for-4 with a walk and a homer today. Raises his season OPS to 1.009 with more walks than K's (17-14). He was our 5th round pick from 2019 that was always heralded for bat-to-ball, but he's been tapping into some power lately.

AAA:

Logan Warmoth has a .958 OPS with a 16% K-rate. He started hot last season too before faltering, but it ended up being a bit of a facade with his elevated K-Rate and BABIP. A little bit more sustainable now.

Thx Ray, is Morris a OF? I know Warmoth is UTL type, which could definitely be useful if the K rate decrease is sustainable.

Total hot take here but I predict that Tiedemann is going to overtake Orelvis as Jays number 2 prospect by the end of the season. His stuff is absolutely ridiculous and he appears as though he has potential for 3 plus plus offerings.

How many pitchers actually have one plus plus pitch...let alone 3?

Hey it's a hot take so I might as well be bold. If you read the embedded tweet from earlier on this page he has a 2400 RPM fastball with elite movement that has generated a 50%+ whiff rate, a slider with a 100% whiff rate (super small sample of pitches) and it's declared that his change up may actually be his best pitch. I can't wait to see what he can do against better competition once he starts to move up the system.

Thx John. So another to add to the pile lol. I don't mind though, hopefully he keeps it going and develops a Kevin Smith type of value.

He's got to hurry, big year for him as this is his age 24 season. Trending the right way.

Orlevis has one of the more intriguing statlines in minor league baseball right now: .203/.236/.507, good for a .743 OPS with 26K and 1BB. Strictly OPS wise, he’s doing okay. But that’s because he’s hitting homers and not doing much else.

A super aggressive assignment but those numbers are painful to look at.

So Bo with more power but even less plate discipline?

Kind of... but that is a really concerning stats line. Bo's K/bb was like 2-1 throughout the minors. Maybe Orelvis's approach is too aggressive. I assume Vlad and Bo could have hit more homers in the minors if they just went all out, swung as hard as they could at everything.

In 630 or so PAs Orelvis has 41 homers

In 1200 ish PAs Vlad had 44 homers

In 1400 ish PAs Bo had 39 homers

Every guy is different, but I assume all three have elite exit V. So question is

1. What would Orelvis's numbers look like if he held back a bit, was more patient and made more contact?

2. What would Bo/Vlad's numbers in the minors look like if they swung as hard as they could at everything?

So question is, at some point does Orelvis have to realize that he may have to dial it back a bit? Especially with the new ball.

That being said, Orelvis's k/bb was OK I guess until Vancouver... maybe he is being rushed.

He got rolled early on in Dunedin, and Vancouver too and made the right adjustments after a month or so at each level. That’s what they’re gonna be looking for pretty soon

Orelvis today (MILB.tv game of the week, free with MLB.tv)

1st AB:

Pitch 1- slider down and away swing and miss

Pitch 2- slider gets a good part of the plate crushed for a 3-run home run

2nd AB

Pitch 1- slider inside, probably a ball, called a strike

Pitch 2- fastball, pulled into the hole next to SS, Volpe makes a good throw to get Orelvis

Is it just me, or is it weird that the other 2 baserunners did not stand at the plate to greet him? Is he a prick to play with or am I reading too much into it?

Pitch 3- curve ball up, ball

Pitch 4- fastball away, ball (should have been a walk)

Pitch 5- fastball outside corner, fouled back
