Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted May 7, 2021 Posted May 7, 2021 Frank German got destroyed couldn’t even get out of the first inning. Surprised we lost this game up 5-0, Taylor was cheeks. Not good returns on that trade for Boston so far with Ottavino walking 10 in 12 innings and blowing a couple of games badly. Winckowski started the second game against the Cats and has walked 4 in 3 innings, giving up 3 runs so far.
Ray Verified Member Posted May 7, 2021 Posted May 7, 2021 Between Spring Training and AAA, Manoah has now pitched 13 innings, allowed 3 hits, and struck out 25. I think there's a reason the front office pushed him to AAA. Have a feeling he was lighting it up in the alternate site, and so it just made sense to challenge him. I really wouldn't be surprised if Manoah is starting games for us this year if he keeps this up.

We're holding him back to control his innings in AAA so he can contribute in the 2nd half and hopeful through a playoff run.
Ray Verified Member Posted May 7, 2021 Posted May 7, 2021 Honestly, I think there's a decent chance he's up prior to the ASB. I wouldn't be surprised if he continues dominating AAA. There's no point in wasting bullets. This rotation could use a shot in the arm, and he's as good of an option as any if he keeps this up.
Slade Old-Timey Member Posted May 7, 2021 Posted May 7, 2021 I missed it but guess Hagen Danner gave up hitting and went back to being a pitcher. Went 2IP 4K on 36Pitches today, not bad after 3 years of hitting. He used to be low to mid 90's with projection.
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted May 7, 2021 Author Posted May 7, 2021 Will Manoah be what we hoped Pearson would be (mainly due to him seeming to be more durable)?
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted May 7, 2021 Posted May 7, 2021 Will Manoah be what we hoped Pearson would be (mainly due to him seeming to be more durable)? You say that like Pearson's dead, lol.
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted May 7, 2021 Author Posted May 7, 2021 You say that like Pearson's dead, lol. 'more durable' is a lot different than saying 'alive'. Pearson had injuries before being drafted. Injury last season. Injury this spring. Hopefully it's just coincidence and bad luck...but to pretend it isn't at least mildly concerning is disingenuous.
Sammy225 Old-Timey Member Posted May 7, 2021 Posted May 7, 2021 You say that like Pearson's dead, lol. This will be a telling year for Pearson. I am guessing he will get 1 maybe 2 more starts before taking over for Kay, Unless injury continues to f*** with us but this should be a telling year about what Pearson can do.
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted May 7, 2021 Posted May 7, 2021 You say that like Pearson's dead, lol. Pearson dominated his first start. He got squeezed. The strike zone was super tight in his start. He should have been 9 K's 4 scoreless without accounting for the fact that the tight zone probably cost him another 15 pitches and another inning. He wasn't getting the calls on the edges and had to challenge guys. Houck is a pretty advanced pitcher and he got rocked dealing with the same conditions. Pearson should be starting Sunday. I'm still hopeful he will. Pearson like all pitchers didn't have the time to ramp up properly last year. He had some dead arm and elbow tightness. It wasn't anything too serious. He missed 5 weeks and came back an dominated. He had a groin strain. Arm injuries, are the concerning ones for pitchers. I hope Pearson starts Sunday and has a healthy 2021 so he can shake this injury reputation that is largely unfair. A couple minor injures and bad luck getting hit on a comebacker shouldn't put Pearson in the perpetually injured category.

Why is Anthony Kay blocking Pearson? This is no longer a health issue or building up. Pearson is good for 90 pitchers. He's entirely healthy. It's now a performance issue. If Pearson doesn't start Sunday, you feel Kay gives you a better chance to win. I'm on team Pearson. He gives us the best chance to win on Sunday. It's not like Kay is a guy that's going to get to 110 pitches.

I am not saying that he is blocking him i am guessing that since he only threw 70 pitches throught 3.2 innings they may want to see him go 5 or 6 before bringing him up. 1 start in may is not going to make or break our season make sure he is ready, as been mentioned before his injury track record is not great don't george springer this mother f***er.

He threw 78 pitches, not 70. He should be good for 90 in a natural progression. Every game matters. He should pitch Sunday.

The groin injury happened in ST, typical for many players in camp. The flexor strain was concerning, if he gets hurt again, I'll start to get nervous.
Eat My Shatkins Verified Member Posted May 7, 2021 Posted May 7, 2021 I agree with saskjaysfan. Get Pearson up for Sunday. If he's healthy, he should be pitching in MLB. Personally, I wouldn't wait much longer to bring Manoah up either if he continues to show like his debut. Sheer and utter dominance at the AAA level. They're probably the 3rd and 4th best MLB level starting pitcher options right now behind only Ryu and Ray (going off of Ray's last three starts with 0 walks)
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted May 7, 2021 Posted May 7, 2021 Okay, I agree with the last sentence, lol. I look forward to watching Kay, like I look forward to going to the dentist. Please Ross, Pearson for Sunday...fingers crossed. There's a reason they haven't listed a starter for Sunday. Pearson is in the mix for consideration.

It's possible, but I believe they wanted a few starts with the Bisons, I mean at least one more, I doubt he starts Sunday.
BlueRocky Old-Timey Member Posted May 7, 2021 Posted May 7, 2021 Guys are giving up on Anthony Kay after one start? There’s 2.5 live bodies in the rotation right now, there’s plenty of room for all the stud pitching prospects. They’re also stretching out Hatch with intent to join the rotation.

I agree Kay is not the answer but if its the same thing as last year for Pearson where we get into the 4th inning with his pitch count in the 70s and 80s is it worth it. If he can't go deep in AAA I am sorry but its going to be even worse with the Jays.

Can't speak for others, but I'm certainly not giving up on Kay. I just think Pearson is better than Kay, and if both are healthy it should Pearson starting for the Jays and Kay starting for the Bisons.

Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted May 7, 2021 Posted May 7, 2021 Pearson needs a few more reps to get comfortable before being subject to MLB hitters. Limit the risk of destroying the kid's confidence, we will need him in the 2nd half.
