Blue Jays have 7 names on the updated Top 100 prospects list:

15 Austin Martin

16 Nate Pearson

29 Jordan Groshans

62 Simeon Woods-Richardson

63 Alejandro Kirk

86 Orelvis Martinez

98 Alek Manoah

98 Last: 100

Alek Manoah

Blue Jays RHP

Notes:

Final 2020 Ranking: NR

Tools: Fastball: 60 | Slider: 55 | Changeup: 50 | Control: 50

Skinny: After only ascending as high as the short-season level in his pro debut, Manoah reintroduced himself with authority during big league spring training. Using a powerful mixture of four- and two-seam fastballs and a slider and changeup, Manoah struck out 15 over seven one-hit innings spread across two outings. Scouts were especially impressed by the slider, which flashed as high as a 70-grade offering during one outing. The Blue Jays have pumped out a steady stream of hard-throwers in recent years, and Manoah could be next up.

Track Record: Manoah split time between starting and relieving his first two years at West Virginia. He had an outstanding summer in the Cape Cod League in 2018, then carried over that success in 2019 as a junior, propelling him to become the 11th overall pick and sign with the Blue Jays for $4,547,500.

Scouting Report: Manoah is a power pitcher with a gigantic frame. Built like Aaron Harang, Manoah will need to stay on top of his conditioning, but he leverages his size into a high-octane fastball. He sits at 93-96 mph with tailing life and can dial it up to 98. His slider flashes plus and is his putaway pitch. Manoah primarily relied on those two pitches at West Virginia and in the short-season Northwest League, where he continued to rack up strikeouts. His changeup lagged behind and was a developmental priority in 2020 at the alternate training site. It flashes enough movement that it could develop into an average pitch. Manoah is more athletic than his body suggests, which helps him throw strikes, though he does need to tighten his fastball command.

The Future: Manoah has the stuff to develop into a mid-rotation starter with a chance for more. Even with the shutdown, he could be in position to pitch in Toronto by the end of the 2021 season.

Wander Franco starting the year in AAA too

If service time manipulation wasn't a thing Wander Franco would probably have been in the majors 2 years ago.

Time to bring New Hampshire another championship, it’s been a long drought since 2018.

I guess the Jays are stretching Zulueta out, should be an interesting follow.

Yeah, I was surpised to see him placed in low A, but stretching him out makes sense. Hopefully he ascends rapidly due to strong performance.

Love to see it but 29 seems awfully high for someone that essentially hasn't played in 2 seasons and only had a cup of coffee in full season ball. I'm really curious to see what he's able to do this season.

Robinson pleaded not guilty. His alleged offense is a Class 5 felony carrying a minimum sentences of two years, but there are signs that a plea deal might be reached that, taking into account the 20-year-old's mental health struggles, will avoid prison.

is there a roster out yet for the Jays entire minor league teams? Except of course for short season teams.

Have you checked MILB.com?

#BlueJays will continue developing both Austin Martin & Jordan Groshans at SS per MLB coach & player development director Gil Kim. Of course both will be at AA and only one of them can play SS at a time, so Martin will also play some CF & Groshans will also play 3B.

Interesting article! This caught my attention. The Jays now have dieticians at each minor-league affiliate. Kirk said he wishes he would have listened more about nutrition earlier.

Healthy eating and lifestyle choices at ever level of MiLB is a huge step.

That’s awesome. For years I’ve said it makes sense to invest in these players in the minors for a relatively low cost. Giving them access to a S&C coach, nutrition, and a weight room would go a long way in player development of 18-22 year olds.

I can't see Groshans and Martin hitting that high in the order in their first year. I also find it difficult in seeing Martin assuming SS in his first year over Bichette, maybe mid year if it's that glaring. The only way I can see Bo not starting the year at SS is if they sign a high profile SS.

I am sure Groshans and Martin would hit 8th or 9th their first week.. after that it is anyone's guess lol. One of them starts with a 4 for 10 they probably hit third (half joking, but that's kind of the way it works, like Vlad going from 6th to 3rd in like the first week).

I agree with Bo on short stop. In the same inning he made the error today, he had almost the exact same throw a couple of batters later and hit Vlad in the chest on a line.

He's made some nice plays the last week or two, he can make hard plays at short stop, it just seems he screws up easy ones way too often. So I hope with enough reps he works it out.

It'll be interesting to see if the Jays go after a high profile SS in free agency, assuming one or more reach the market. They're going to have to stay somewhat financially flexible in order to sign these core guys long term, and with Martin/Groshans/Martinez coming behind Bichette I wonder if they'll be willing to commit huge money to a free agent SS.

Correa would be amazing though. Maybe he will go to market and Springer can help lure him to the Jays. If Bo is willing to move off of SS that'd be one he'll of a deep line up.

I can't see the Jays going after a big free agent SS this off season

More.likely to spend money on SP and budgeting for Vlad and Bo long term hopefully

It's going to be insane. There will be so many "breakouts".

I think SP is the way they'll go. There's so many on expiring contracts.

Greinke

Verlander

Kershaw

Scherzer

Stroman

Gausman

Syndergaard

Ed Rodriguez

Plus a ton of #4 types.

I hate dealing in absolutes, but I think there's about a 0.02% chance we spend big FA money on a shortstop with Groshans/Martin/Orelvis coming through the pipeline. I'm perfectly fine with Grichuk being the 4th OFer, but I can't imagine scenario where we'd also push Biggio to the bench.

Vancouvers roster looks like s*** lol. The only real prospects their are Kloff and Van Eyk. Also Hagen Danner is listed as a pitcher.

Warmoth is an OF now? I guess just trying to get him to not bust at this point, so whatever works.

Speaking of busts, #15 overall Jon Harris is still with the Jays, in NH.

He was an OF for all of ST.
