Keston Hiura is obviously the best yellow prospect

I wonder what his family gatherings are like, especially if his grandparents are still alive

I dont think he will get much respect because of his stature and weight

DSL started today.

Jays lose 5-0. Nothing of note to report.

Here’s some interesting stuff.

RF Gabriel Martinez was our top 2018 signing from Venezuela, his uncle is a Blue Jays international scout. Supposedly has some pop and a decent glove and runner. Bonus amount not sure.

We only had @ 1.4M left after signing Orelvis Martinez, and spent 200k on DR CF Amell Brazoban which batted 5th today. Reports say he’s raw offensively but has good frame (6-2) and plus runner and plus arm. All these kids are like 17 so who really knows.

Catcher Javier D’Orazio is another one of the higher profile kids we signed from Venezuela.

Interesting they put Emmanuel Sanchez and Leonel Callez as middle of the order bats to start the season. I wonder if this means Orelvis will start at the GCL which I would like to see.

He has been in minor league spring training in Dunedin this whole time; of course he is starting in the GCL.

Alford hurt? only one AB

Doesn’t sound serious:

He left the game with a cut on his hand. REALLY. Some players are hitting

the injury list with some pretty stupid injuries. What happened to the good old days

when players played though some minor injuries.

I have a strong suspicion you wouldn't be saying this if the same happened to Kevin Smith.

Do you know the severity of the cut? Do you know what hand? Do you know if it impacts his ability to hold a bat, grip a ball?

You should think first, todd

Nah. Like everyone, he should stick with his strengths.

Wall 2-4 with two doubles (17) and a walk with no strike outs.

Now hitting .312 / .413 / .473 / .886

Came here to comment on Wall. Dude's somehow hitting .512 over his last 10 games. Also remarkable is that he finished both April and May with an OBP over .400.

But Shatkin's can't evaluate talent and got nothing for Oh.

The best thing about Wall is that his BB/K rate looks great. The Jays have had a very hard time acquiring players who can draw walks at a high level so this is a good development for him. Time to move him up to AAA and see what he has. Still only 23. If his D in CF is even average, he might be something.

Scouts have been calling him a left fielder for a while now. They might be wrong, of course, but I don't think the industry people really consider him a CF prospect right now.

BB% without power means nothing to me. There's very few guys who can post a respectable OBP in the show with no power. MLB pitchers come right after you.

Yeah Wall's numbers do look a little like Alford's in AA, and we know what happened when he moved up. If Wall is a LF as mentioned rather than a CF, then that definitely takes away from his appeal. He'll have to take his high AVG/high OBP into every level for him to have a chance.

Wall's profile reminds me a LOT of David DeJesus, a LF tweener with no power but just enough hit and secondary skills to hang around the big leagues for 10 years. If Wall turns into that it would be an amazing find, but he'll have to keep hitting at every single stop to prove himself.

If Wall had a run like DeJesus had in 2005-2010 that's an absolute steal, that was basically a 20 fWAR run IIRC. Walls numbers concern me a bit, super BABIP inflated at the moment.

Yes, his BABIP is high, but his K%, BB% and ISO are all at least close to his career highs if not better. DeJesus would be a dream scenario. I doubt he has a similar contact rate, so he'll have to be a doubles machine with nice discipline, more than likely.

Wall has always been a prospect who has under-performed his tools - the speed seems to have declined, he's never put it together defensively, never found a power stroke. The one thing he can do is put the bat on the ball. Lucky for him, that's the single most important thing. He actually might not be much different than Dwight Smith Jr., all things considered.

DeJesus is way too wishful.

I didn't realize DeJesus was such a WAR king in his day. I think DeJesus' WAR totals are pretty heavily inflated from the pre-statcast valuation of his defense, which seems to think he played left field better than prime Alex Gordon. I basically see DeJesus as a league average bat who played solid LF defense.

Hector Perez had a pretty great May in AA:

6 GS, 2.34 ERA, 7.8 K/9, 2.5 BB/9

Hopefully he's locked down some of that control.

2017 draftee Zach Logue will make his first AAA start today.

He had a decent run in AA: 10 GS, 3.70 ERA, 3.96 xFIP, 6.48 K/9, 2.01 BB/9

Four-seam Fastball — 90-93

Two-seam Fastball — 88-91

Slider — 78-81

Changeup — 80-82

Lefty as well. Could end up being a decent back of the rotation guy.

Bullpen I think. I'll take it.

Shane Victorino?? Wall has slightly worse minor league rates than DeJesus, a bit better than Victorino. Strikes out a bit more than either did... but maybe in this day and age everyone strikes out everywhere.

Brett Gardner was sort of similar, less power, got on base a bit more.

There are probably 30 guys I didn't think to look up because they didn't do anything in the majors and they are just as comparable to Wall.

Nick Allgeyer racked up 10 K's tonight in Dunedin over 6 IP with 1 ER. No walks.

He's quietly had a fantastic season in Dunedin:

11 GS, 2.35 ERA, 9.68 K/9, 1.32 BB/9, 0.44 HR/9, 7.48 H/9

Senior sign from last years draft so he might move quick too.
