Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted February 14, 2017 Author Posted February 14, 2017 Wow - that's the highest anyone's been on Urena....lowest on Alford. I think I'm as excited to follow the Jays prospects as I am the big club. C'mon spring...need some beisbol! Todd was lower on Alford.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted February 14, 2017 Posted February 14, 2017 Can someone explain Albert Almora to me? 6th overall pick, but there's not much to love in his minor league numbers. Does he project as a league average bat (wRC+ of 100) with plus defense? I was going to say plus base running, but his BsR was bad in his short time in the majors last year...Smart guys - go.

High floor, low ceiling that's already played in the bigs at 22 is nothing to sneeze at. Good defense, speed tool, CF....... seems to see his results crap out due to a weird swing and not so good plate discipline matched with good contact. Basically... He's Kevin Pillar at 22, when Pillar wasn't Pillar until he was 25. He still has a chance to workout his swing issues to get better

Despite decent results - everyone wanted him to get out of "Handsome" Jake Marisnick's way.

Kevin Pillar was getting drafted at 22 and playing rookie ball. Nobody had any opinion on him at the time.
Daniel Labude Jays Centre Contributor Posted February 14, 2017 Posted February 14, 2017 Is Lourdes Gurriel really going to start in AA? I would have thought AAA given his age and experience...is it because he hasnt played much in a year or so they want to start out at AA?

Ray Verified Member Posted February 17, 2017 Posted February 17, 2017 That swing. Hnnnng. From the reading/listening I've done, lotta people think that Bo Bichette would go high in the first round if the 2016 draft were done over. Also, A+ baseball name.

If he can time his load properly as he moves up levels, he's going to be really something fun to watch!I hope he starts in Lansing with Vlady this year.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted February 17, 2017 Posted February 17, 2017 I love his bat path. The hands are still a little weird during his load but he definitely seems to have the ability to make adjustments given what his swing was before.

burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted February 17, 2017 Posted February 17, 2017 That swing is loooooonnnngg. You make it sound like a negative. I hate when I hear so and so has a "long swing". You know who else has a long swing? Josh Donaldson. Long swings with the correct bat path and good bat speed means more power. Bichette seems to understand hitting mechanics which is a big advantage. I want a hitter hitting flyballs not groundballs which is what that "quick to the ball, chopping wood" swing gets you. Instagram WWW.INSTAGRAM.COM

Wasn't he suppose to have one of the worst swings ever? It looks like his swing is more compact than previous reports and he is really quick through the zone even though it is a long swing overall

It looks like his swing is more compact than previous reports and he is really quick through the zone even though it is a long swing overall I think scouts (lol) didn't like all the movement in his hands. It's clearly a swing designed to generate strong contact and scouts mistake that for being over agressive, long swing, all that garbage.

burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted February 17, 2017 Posted February 17, 2017 Pretty swesome, l read an interview with Tulo yesterday and he said he remembered Bo hitting at the Rockies facility as a 10 year old and how its cool that he's in the same org. now. Also said he always has time to help out younger players which I thought was pretty remarkable given his superstar status.

Laika Community Moderator Posted February 17, 2017 Posted February 17, 2017 I wonder why Eliopoulos didn't sign with Toronto that first year.
baseballsss Verified Member Posted February 17, 2017 Posted February 17, 2017 Damn, that's a strong, emotional story, thanks for sharing. It really was. I recognize the name but don't remember him as a player. I'm glad is father is being more open about it this probably happens to young professional athletes more than we hear about because of the pressures they face.
Ray Verified Member Posted February 17, 2017 Posted February 17, 2017 It's more Cavan Biggio's swing that's worrying to me.

TheHurl Site Manager Posted February 20, 2017 Posted February 20, 2017 I wonder why Eliopoulos didn't sign with Toronto that first year. Mental health essentially. I am working now with his former coach and we had a conversation about it. Guy was suffering badly from it even then and everyone (his family) was convinced that he couldn't handle the rigors of the the minors. But somewhere there was a split in the decision to send him to Chipola. My guess is that his Dad was the one that was pushing in a different directions but that is pure speculation. The coach said that most people were just saying "he loves baseball, he'll get better if he's doing what he loves". Which just isn't true but that's really easy to say in hindsight.
