BTS Community Moderator Posted September 17, 2015 Posted September 17, 2015 (edited) It's that time of year again. Time to talk about the 2015-2016 offseason. Last offseason's thread: http://www.bluejaysmessageboard.com/threads/3793-Offseason-roster-thread-2014 Edited October 10, 2015 by NorthOf49

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted September 18, 2015 Posted September 18, 2015 We need another OF I don't trust that Saunders will play anywhere near a full season and JB is almost done in RF
Atothe Old-Timey Member Posted September 18, 2015 Posted September 18, 2015 1. No 2. No ( gonna cost a arm and a leg) 3. Maybe (depends on the price) 4. Yes (no sweetheart deals) 5. Maybe 6. No brainer 7. Hell f***ing yes
Atothe Old-Timey Member Posted September 18, 2015 Posted September 18, 2015 We need another OF I don't trust that Saunders will play anywhere near a full season and JB is almost done in RF We got pompey
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted September 18, 2015 Posted September 18, 2015 Abay bhai lets first win this year yar
baubau Verified Member Posted September 18, 2015 Posted September 18, 2015 I'd qualify Estrada in the hopes he doesn't sign. Get them draft picks. Hopefully his agent is smart and tells Estrada they could try and ride out his season for a multi-year contract instead of a one year. Someone like Arizona seems dumb enough to go after him
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted September 18, 2015 Posted September 18, 2015 We got pompey Seems like to org is lacking faith in him and he's gotta start hitting
crmr Verified Member Posted September 18, 2015 Posted September 18, 2015 We got pompey Is Revere back for another year?
Atothe Old-Timey Member Posted September 18, 2015 Posted September 18, 2015 Is Revere back for another year? Yeah he'll be a starter
baubau Verified Member Posted September 18, 2015 Posted September 18, 2015 He did hit. For majority of 2/3 of the season in the minors. Can't judge him on 1 PA so far after being called up. Hopefully the Jays clinch soon so Gibby will use him to rest guys. E: blah! On my phone. This was @G-S
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted September 18, 2015 Posted September 18, 2015 Is Revere back for another year? We have control for 2 more years actually

If we still have Revere then figure out how to get Pompey significant playing time, otherwise call Pompey up. While I would love for them to sign Price for the next 3-5 years, there's no way that he doesn't end up being a disaster later in any deal he gets (I'm assuming he gets like 9 years 260 mil or so) The team looks really solid for next year regardless, because the entire O is back

burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted September 18, 2015 Posted September 18, 2015 Don't like Qualifying Buehrle and Estrada because of both accept the team is screwed and loses all financial flexibility. I think you offer Price 7/180 and if he turns it down, so be (very likely will). There are other good starters on the market and I think the Jays need to acquire at least 2 good ones to go along with Stroman, Dickey and Hutch. Trading for Chapman would be a waste much rather give Lowe a 5-10 million on a 1 or 2 year deal. For the OF I'd be fine having Pillar/Bautista/Saunders/Revere. I do not want to count on Pompey being a starter.

Atothe Old-Timey Member Posted September 18, 2015 Posted September 18, 2015 I would like Shipley traded. Enough is enough
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted September 18, 2015 Posted September 18, 2015 We need another OF I don't trust that Saunders will play anywhere near a full season and JB is almost done in RF I retract this statement Pillar-Revere-Bautista-Pompey-Saunders is probably fine for another year
crmr Verified Member Posted September 18, 2015 Posted September 18, 2015 I retract this statement Pillar-Revere-Bautista-Pompey-Saunders is probably fine for another year This is why I asked about Revere , with him we don't really need another
Candide Verified Member Posted September 18, 2015 Posted September 18, 2015 true love. or at least, a new identity and new personality to help me find true love.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted September 18, 2015 Posted September 18, 2015 I'll have no doubt he'll prove you wrong. Starter or not Even if you like Pompey as a player why go into the season counting on him as a starter when you have much better options already in place? I don't think there is any doubt Saunders is a better LF than Pompey talent wise, even Revere for that matter. I think what Revere is right now is what you hope Pompey could turn into (talking about next season).
Rajais Mitten Verified Member Posted September 18, 2015 Posted September 18, 2015 My 2016 Wishlist includes a 2015 World Series banner and that's pretty much it for now..

It is experience that he lacks JB is starting to be a trainwreck in RF. his defensive metrics are bottom 5 for qualified RF. However his bat and power are awesome so he keeps that spot. Pillar/Pompey/Revere/Saunders give you the depth to cover LF and CF.
Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted September 18, 2015 Posted September 18, 2015 You know who talks about 2016 wishlists in September 2015? 2015 Detroit Tigers fans. This is a thread to be rehashed in 6 weeks from now. Jays fans have been programmed to be like Cubs fans I guess..."we'll get them next year!"
TheHurl Site Manager Posted September 18, 2015 Posted September 18, 2015 The Jays are set up to be pretty strong for a couple years (2016 anyway for JB and EE) with the everyday lineup they currently have and control. my wishlist would include the following 1. sign Price - you need an ace/anchor for the pitching staff 2. trade for Chapman - truly solidify the closer and allow Osuna to start 3. sign next year's Lowe for the bullpen 4. qualify Buehrle 5. qualify Estrada? not sure on this, probably like to sign him for 2 or 3 years 6. pick up Dickey option 7. pick up EE and JB options SP - Price, Stroman, Dickey, Hutchison, Estrada, Sanchez, Osuna RP - Sanchez, Osuna, Cecil, Schultz, Tepera, Hendricks, Loup and whatever else is picked up It honestly should be a fascinating off season. Jays results this post-season are obviously a factor, but I can't see them letting the buzz that around the team dying by letting Price go and doing nothing. If Price doesn't sign, neither Shapiro or AA have really played in the FA market though, so do they make another big splash trade?. Although I think Shapiro probably comes in and builds the programs for the first year and lets AA do his thing with the 25 man.
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted September 18, 2015 Posted September 18, 2015 There's a bucketload of quality free agent starters this offseason. Sign 2 and that's all we need. Don't blow all the money on Price. We are all set for position players. May need to sign a couple bullpen pieces. Wishlist: 1-2 decent starters 1-2 decent bullpen arms
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted September 18, 2015 Posted September 18, 2015 1. Will Sanchez get another chance to be a starter? 2. Does he even want to?
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted September 18, 2015 Posted September 18, 2015 I retract this statement Pillar-Revere-Bautista-Pompey-Saunders is probably fine for another year I think the question is - do you plan on the Cola/Smoak platoon at 1st next year, or move Jose there? If you take Jose out of the mix in RF, then I'm not overly comfortable with Revere/Piller/Pompey/Saunders....although I could totally see that being the situation with high hopes that Saunders proves some value and Pompey proves he can be a ML regular.

It pains me to pick up the RA option but SP is just so expensive and he eats innings AND he has been flat out good 2nd half again.
crmr Verified Member Posted September 18, 2015 Posted September 18, 2015 They're not going to qualify Estrada at $16MM and may not do so with Buehrle. Those guys have barely been worth that much this year and Estrada in particular isn't very good. Throw in Dickey and you're talking about committing $44MM to three starting pitchers who don't move the needle. I'll pass and give some of those starts to Hutch and Osuna. I dont think they qualify Buehrle, but may do it with Estrada. Gives them a decent guy for $16 mil for 1 year, which is probably exactly what they're looking for. Hard to get 1 year guys in the FA market really. Not sure Estrada will accept it coming off a career year though. Buehrle just seems to be done at this point so it's hard to imagine they qualify him, but I have to believe they grab one of Buerhle/Dickey for the innings factor (which is likely more important than people around here think)
