BlueBirdBro Verified Member Posted August 26, 2015 Posted August 26, 2015 We are in tough company tonight... Lewis is 14-5. Not worried. Same as saying Hutch is dominant because he's 12-2.
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted August 26, 2015 Author Posted August 26, 2015 Right as I posted this thread, Colby Rasmus was thrown out of the Astros game for "giving the one-finger salute" to an umpire. I'm assuming that can only be a good omen.
Followthelight Verified Member Posted August 26, 2015 Posted August 26, 2015 We are in tough company tonight... Lewis is 14-5. LOL at using won/loss record.....This offense can get to Lewis. he is not as good as his record.

93 Jays Verified Member Posted August 26, 2015 Posted August 26, 2015 Yeah, Lewis has an ERA over 7 against us for his career in either 7 or 9 career starts. The jays beat up on him just as they have everyone else recently. With Price going on top of that, I like our chances in this one.
BlueJays20xx Verified Member Posted August 26, 2015 Posted August 26, 2015 Any Jays going to bunt against the shift? Someone should do that just to troll him.
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted August 26, 2015 Posted August 26, 2015 I asked Chuck Norris what he thinks about this thread................. http://stream1.gifsoup.com/view3/3386356/chuck-norris-approved-o.gif
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted August 26, 2015 Posted August 26, 2015 Yeah, Lewis has an ERA over 7 against us for his career in either 7 or 9 career starts. How is that even relevant? We have maybe one or two players on our team from those previous starts, if that. Sorry, I really hate it when broadcasts use a player's career stats vs a specific team, they're incredibly useless.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted August 26, 2015 Posted August 26, 2015 14 wins > 12 wins. The Rangers have the pitching advantage tonight.
Effit Old-Timey Member Posted August 26, 2015 Posted August 26, 2015 Let's go Blue Jays! Price pitching on his 30th birthday.
reedjohnsonfan Verified Member Posted August 26, 2015 Posted August 26, 2015 Let's go Blue Jays! Price pitching on his 30th birthday. With a strong finish to the season, he might win the Cy Young.
baubau Verified Member Posted August 26, 2015 Posted August 26, 2015 With a strong finish to the season, he might win the Cy Young. I would rank Sale, Keuchel, Kluber and maybe Archer ahead. Not sure how big of a factor "making the playoffs" will be. I imagine Keuchel winning it at the end if both the Jays and Astros make it to the post season.

I imagine Keuchel winning it at the end if both the Jays and Astros make it to the post season. Yeah Price needs to finish really well and have Keuchel and Archer stumble a bit. He is clearly ahead of Kluber and Sale IMO. I believe there's only been 1 player to win the cy young award after a year where he was traded during the season. Does anybody know who?
reedjohnsonfan Verified Member Posted August 26, 2015 Posted August 26, 2015 Sale, Kluber, and Archer are all out of contention... that always seems to have a huge play in the decision. So Keuchal is looking like the favorite IMO, even though Sale deserves it. I think Archer is still in the conversation, no?
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted August 26, 2015 Posted August 26, 2015 Sale is out of contention? Lol the dude has like 220 Ks in 160 IP or something absurd like that. He's the best pitcher in the American League, and quite arguably is the 2nd best pitcher in baseball, not much behind Kershaw at that.

His ERA is about a run higher than Keuchel and Price, he's not even close at the moment.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted August 26, 2015 Posted August 26, 2015 His ERA is about a run higher than Keuchel and Price, he's not even close at the moment. Lol, luckily there are a lot fewer retarded dinos voting for Cy Young than there were a few years ago.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted August 26, 2015 Posted August 26, 2015 Sale is absolutely smoking the field IMO, leading the AL CY candidates in WAR, FIP, xFIP, SIERRA, K, and K/BB. To say he's out of it you'd have to be completely clueless. It's very much a 5 horse race, and any of Sale, Archer, Price, Kluber, or Keuchel could win. They'll each get first place votes, in all likelihood.
BlueBirdBro Verified Member Posted August 26, 2015 Posted August 26, 2015 My point was that win/loss is a useless stat. Hutch isn't dominant.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted August 26, 2015 Posted August 26, 2015 It was a joke...... o........m.............g......................................................................... I laughed
BlueBirdBro Verified Member Posted August 26, 2015 Posted August 26, 2015 We all appreciate your astute contributions. You go, girl.

He's not out of it, but he'd need to lower his ERA quite a bit to have a chance, unfortunately Chicago's defense hurts him quite a bit.
Followthelight Verified Member Posted August 26, 2015 Posted August 26, 2015 There was like 10 ppl who thought I was serious because everybody can't wait to jump on the first newb that walks in. True, but how are we supposed to know that was a joke not knowing the poster? People post dumber s*** and are dead serious so you can't blame people. There was no indication your initial post was sarcasm or a joke.

This isn't 2005, people don't care that much about W and ERA these days. Voters are more educated and care about things like WAR. Besides which, Sale's ERA will likely regress (in a good way) ROS while the other pitcher's ERAs regress (in a bad way) ROS. That's what FIP tells us.

Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted August 26, 2015 Posted August 26, 2015 The AL Cy Young voting process last year is a clear example of that. Felix winning in 2010 with 'only 13 wins' was a watershed moment. ERA and W should really only be used as a tiebreaker between pitchers of extremely similar WAR, and even then I'd prefer Ks, myself.
