flafson Verified Member Posted July 26, 2015 Posted July 26, 2015 If Edwin goes anywhere it's the Cards, the only fit that makes sense. Why would they want a DH in the NL?
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2015 Posted July 26, 2015 Why would they want a DH in the NL? they want a 1B, especially with Adams out. Then they can trade Edwin in the offseason.
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2015 Posted July 26, 2015 Ken Rosenthal @Ken_Rosenthal #Royals were close to acquiring Cueto from #Reds earlier tonight, sources tell me and @jonmorosi. Deal fell through. Ken Rosenthal @Ken_Rosenthal Sources indicate that the problem was that one of the players going from the #Royals to the #Reds for Cueto did not check out medically. Yeah, apparently it was so close to being done, that the Reds were already warming up Lorenzen to take his start. Cueto was f***ing pissed.
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2015 Posted July 26, 2015 Garbage source, and there's absolutely no reason to believe this guy, but a random reddit commenter (/u/KNOWSaBJinsider) is pretending that he knows what's going on. He claims the Jays priorities right now are as follows: (1) David Price, (2) Phillies deal, (3) Controllable mid-rotation starters, and then "big $ SP this summer" (I assume he means winter). He says that they haven't worked much on a Price trade, but if there was even a remote chance that he was available, AA would "open up the farm" He also claims that the Jays have worked on a deal where they'd receive Hamels, Papelbon and 30-35M in exchange for Norris, Jimenez, and either Pompey+Borucki or Pentecost+Urena. He claims that there's an alternative, less likely package they could send the Phillies, which would involve an outfielder on the MLB roster that isn't Bautista, but would have fewer prospects involved (assuming he's talking about Pillar). He says that this trade has been in a "holding pattern for several months", because it's contingent on a player accepting the deal (assuming he's talking about Hamels). Also this summer (winter), he claims the Jays are going to "make EE an offer", and if he rejects, they'll trade him. He says Bautista is "going nowhere", and he adds that Buehrle and Dickey won't be with the team in 2016. The last thing he says is that Navarro is being traded at the deadline. There are "multiple deals in place", and which deal AA accepts is based on what they achieve with their main priorities. There's probably a 99% chance that this guy is full of s***. That said, he actually seems pretty stupid, while the claims he makes fall very tightly in line with things we've heard throughout the season. He'd have had to follow the team and the trade rumors pretty closely (which is probably what he did). Still, on the microscopic chance that this guy is related to somebody who works for the Jays, and that somebody felt it was a good idea to tell him everything that was going on with the team, I felt obligated to share it with you guys.

Blue Jays receive: Cole Hamels Jonathan Papelbon $30,000,000 Phillies receive: Daniel Norris AJ Jimenez Dalton Pompey and Ryan Borucki or Max Pentecost and Richard Urena +Dioner Navarro traded in a subsequent move!!! I probably make the deal for Norris, Jimenez, Pentecost and Urena (I'm one of the few people that actually really likes the Hamels contract), and reject the one that involves both Norris and Pompey going the other way. Although, moving Norris probably bites you in the ass very quickly.
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2015 Posted July 26, 2015 My response to one of his comments: "I'm not going to say whether or not I believe you because it's irrelevant, but if true, why did your source tell you all of these things? His response: "It's not as if someone pulled me aside to specifically tell me about the Jays. I know someone that has access to information. I've been privy to insider information via late night hotel bar conversations for a couple years. All of this info is known amongst the teams involved. I'm not saying anything people don't know I just have have access to one of those people. The only player I can't give detailed information on is Cueto. I know Hoffman is being demanded but the Jays won't trade him for anything short of Price on a 5 year deal. Even then only if AA absolutely has to include Hoffman. AA has had serious discussions about Cueto and have made "significant" offers but I don't know who was offered. The Cueto rumours are odd. I'll explain why. The Jays orchestrated a media leak. In fact, they've been intentionally leaking Cuetos name for awhile. Now, the reason that's odd is because media have a lot of info they are not allowed to go on the record with. Nobody knows what's really going on with Cueto. The general outline of promising deals are usually known unless management believes the general outline will be criticized by said media. With that knowledge in addition to a belief in the Blue Jays organization that Cueto WILL NOT sign in Toronto I have no idea what's going on there. My buddy (source I guess)works for the Jays and he has no clue what's really going on with Cueto. He tells me how they operate and kinda shows off that he's privy to this stuff so he doesn't really mind if I do the same as long as it's not too significant."

puphood Verified Member Posted July 26, 2015 Posted July 26, 2015 Ok after this afternoons game with Seattle I think it confirmed something to me I have been thinking about for a while. s***** to mediocre starting pitching can be overcome with the bats coming alive and a bull pen that is doing its job which they did. Sounds sort of like the 2014 royals eh. So do we need a Ace SP? Could we get along with one or two consistent middle of the road SP's before trade deadline if the rest of the team fires on all 8? The advantage to getting 1 or 2 middle of the road consistent SP's is you probably would not have to sell off all the farm prospects to do it and the farm team would be alive next year. I don't think a ace by himself is going to get us to much farther down the road in the play offs by just his addition we have a LF issue which needs filling and there is a couple options out there for the taking which could LF also. So get a good LF (Pompey maybe good enough)combined with one or two consistent middle of the road pitchers so we spend less and give away less and probably go just as far in the long run this year. Bo, Hendriks, Sanchez, Osuno are capable of shutting the door we just need our capable bats to do their job.

I'd rather get a lesser name, trade Navarro, call up Pompey, maybe even Norris and see what happens. I want the farm system left nearly untouched and sign a FA SP in winter. It's not like this team is 10 games over .500. Not worth it IMO.

Governator Community Moderator Posted July 26, 2015 Posted July 26, 2015 And in the Post-season? This. This team needs an ace if they want any hopes of going deep in the postseason. If we are in a 1 game do or die we are currently going to Buehrle and then the following series they would probably have to start RA f***ing Dickey. #3s aren't going to get it done.

TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2015 Posted July 26, 2015 If there's any truth to what that guy said on reddit, and the Jays do end up dealing for Hamels in the end, I'm going to be pissed off at Hamels for holding out for so long. If the same deal could have been struck months ago and they'd just been waiting on him, it would really f***ing suck to find that out.
jays_fever Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2015 Posted July 26, 2015 I'd easily give up Norris for Hamels+Cash. Those 200 innings will be important next year when Buehrle walks. As far as the veteod Kanas-Reds trade, the obvious choice would be Kyle Zimmer. Still not sure though why players would rather live in s***** American cities than come to Toronto
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2015 Posted July 26, 2015 Todays game is huge. Win today and thats three straight series wins after all star break. That inspires confidence. Lose and its a 3-3 road trip.

You say you are not desperate? No offence but who the f*** cares? This FO clearly is. Even a stooge like Wilner can admit at this point that making the playoffs this year is pretty crucial for AA if he wants to stick around.

I'd be more worried about the Red Sox stupidly trading for Hamels just because they want to contend with that flawed core in 2016.. considering Ben Cherington and the ownership's idiocy, I can see that happening.

Lose and its a 3-3 road trip. Of course we need to win today.. we have a huge home stand coming up, against a horrid Phillies team (and we won't be seeing Hamels), the Royals, and a Twins team that can't win on the road (20-28). Then we have a key series vs. the Yankees...

It's not that I don't care about what you think, it's just the fact that what you think doesn't align with reality. Despite their record this team isn't that far from contention and the GM has already flat out admitted that SP is a need that he plans on addressing. At this point, standing pat would be a direct indication that he's completely impotent.
