29. Toronto Blue Jays

Jon Harris, RHP, Missouri State

We'll never know if it was Harris's struggles against Arkansas that caused his stock to drop, but I'm not sure Toronto cares either way. Harris has as complete of an arsenal as any hurler in this class, anchored by a 65 fastball and three 55 secondary offerings. Consistency has not been the right-hander's friend though, and the delivery does have some effort in it, so the bullpen isn't out of the picture despite the stuff. Though at this point, Toronto can afford to take the risk, knowing that a high-leverage reliever is a nice fallback option.

56. Toronto Blue Jays

Brady Singer, RHP, Eustis HS

Singer's stock fluctuated a ton over the spring as his secondary pitches never really showed consistency and the command is well below average, but there's elite arm strength here and there's a chance for plus-plus fastball as he fills out.

How would you guys rank Harris and Singer to Pimp Foley? I know PF was ranked in the top 18 or so last year by MLB and just wanted to get a gauge on our pitchers this year from last.

Harris is probably similar to Foley in terms of ranking in their respective draft classes.

Most mocks that i have read had Harris going between #8 to #22. Really good value. I like that he's not a million years away too.

I don't think Harris will sign underslot though. I see both Harris and Singer going for slot which doesn't leave us much wiggle room for the rest of the draft.

Toronto doesn't really have room to wiggle this year anyway, with the small budget.

Yeah. This year draft class isn't as strong as previous year, but with $5.6M we could get something. International draft could be our salvation (Guerrero Jr, Alvarez)

From what I understand there aren't that many guys worth spending big money on either. It's probably more good luck than good planning but this sounds like it was a good draft in which to go small.

But fair enough! I imagine Harris would start in AA and move up from there?

Harris will be on the Fan590 shortly, maybe they'll say something about where he'll start.

Yeah, I listened to it and didn't say. Just that the Jays are aggressive in moving pitchers so if he hits the ground running he won't have to wait long. Pretty funny at the end he's like, "Go Jays!".

Now they are speaking with Soroka.

He hasn't signed yet, he'd have no idea where he's going to be placed.

Jim Callis: Three Best Picks, Three Big Surprises of Day 1

http://m.mlb.com/news/article/129489926/potential-gems-highlight-drafts-day-1-intrigue

Three Best Picks:

1. Daz Cameron, OF, Eagle's Landing Christian Academy, McDonough, Ga. (Astros, No. 37).

Houston was already lined up for a banner Draft with the highest pair of picks in history at No. 2 (Bregman) and No. 5 (outfielder Kyle Tucker from Plant High, Tampa, Fla.). It got even better when Cameron lasted until the first Competitive Balance Round as a result of a reported $5 million price tag that scared off clubs. If the Astros sign all three, they will have landed three of the top seven prospects on the MLBPipeline.com Draft Top 200 list.

2. Jon Harris, RHP, Missouri State (Blue Jays, No. 29).

An expected run on college pitchers in the teens never materialized, and Harris waited much longer than expected to hear his name called. The fourth-best college arm available has a higher floor as a starter than the three guys rated ahead of him, and Toronto never expected him to be undrafted at the pick it received as compensation for the loss of free-agent outfielder Melky Cabrera. Harris has a lively 92- to 94-mph fastball, three secondary pitches that flash plus at their best and an athletic 6-foot-4 frame.

3. Mike Nikorak, RHP, Stroudsburg (Pa.) High (Rockies, No. 27).

Colorado got the high school position player with the highest ceiling in Rodgers and paired him with the prep pitcher with the highest ceiling in Nikorak. The right-hander still needs to add strength so he can maintain his stuff and command deeper into games and seasons, but he's an athletic 6-foot-5, 205-pounder who can reach 97 mph and snap off an impressive curveball.

Power hitter Carl Wise in the 4th round. Apparently he won't stick at 3rd.

Wise, Nay and Dean in the same team :(
