Atothe Old-Timey Member Posted June 28, 2015 Posted June 28, 2015 No I don't. We have no idea what the Phillies are looking for, but I bet they hang up the phone if that's the offer. so what pitcher can the jays get in return if Sanchez and Body are the trade pieces?
LTR Verified Member Posted June 28, 2015 Posted June 28, 2015 so what pitcher can the jays get in return if Sanchez and Body are the trade pieces? Jo-Jo Reyes or some mop-up bullpen arm.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted June 28, 2015 Posted June 28, 2015 No I don't. We have no idea what the Phillies are looking for, but I bet they hang up the phone if that's the offer. May I remind you that this is the same man who traded Cliff Lee for Tyson Gillies and Phillipe Aumont.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted June 28, 2015 Posted June 28, 2015 Sanchez had 2.19 xFIP in his 4th start If he gave up 3 dingers a lot of you guys would be all over him Reality is... Sanchez has #1 or #2 ceiling, whereas Boyd has #3 ceiling. Also there is an age diff. Perfectly valid to value Sanchez over Boyd

Matt Boyd also has a higher floor than Sanchez.

I'm pretty sure he's received basically nothing for every big player he's traded in recent years. Can we name one player they got for Pence or Victorino?
reedjohnsonfan Verified Member Posted June 28, 2015 Posted June 28, 2015 so what pitcher can the jays get in return if Sanchez and Body are the trade pieces? Latos maybe?
flafson Verified Member Posted June 28, 2015 Posted June 28, 2015 Sanchez does not have a #1 ceiling. Matt Boyd also has a higher floor than Sanchez. Why not? He has shown to be inconsistent at time but also consistent at time. The stuff is clearly there.
Atothe Old-Timey Member Posted June 28, 2015 Posted June 28, 2015 Latos maybe? Then its better to hold on to both. Latos is trash
reedjohnsonfan Verified Member Posted June 28, 2015 Posted June 28, 2015 Then its better to hold on to both. Latos is trash Assuming he turns it around. A few awful starts but otherwise has been alright.
Laika Community Moderator Posted June 28, 2015 Posted June 28, 2015 Then its better to hold on to both. Latos is trash Also very ugly and, I'm assuming, a terrible human being.
Laika Community Moderator Posted June 28, 2015 Posted June 28, 2015 I think they should really hold on to Boyd. The Donaldson trade (and others) have removed a lot of the young SP depth from Toronto's system. You can only dip into the same well so many times.... With Buehrle and Dickey expiring soon, if you move Sanchez and Boyd for a one year SP, the 2016 depth chart will look pretty gross/thin
DuckDuckGose Verified Member Posted June 28, 2015 Posted June 28, 2015 Cole Hamels' avg fastball in his career is 91.1 mph, fyi. Boyd has plenty of velo from the left side. With his command (stat scouting), his fastball is probably a 60 grade pitch. I saw you compare him to Happ earlier in the thread. Is his FB that good? Is it as flat as Law makes it sound? I didn't get to watch today but if his FB is anything like Happs he has a very good shot to be a backend starter and bullpen floor.
DuckDuckGose Verified Member Posted June 28, 2015 Posted June 28, 2015 Really don't know what to make of him from this start... no walks is great, K's were great, but the HRs. Seems to me he was a bit unlucky and did get squeezed by the ump a few times, so perhaps we can expect better. I think he may be able to help the team though. At the very least it'd be nice to have a LHP out of the BP that can throw heat for strikes. Severely lacking that this year.
Atothe Old-Timey Member Posted June 28, 2015 Posted June 28, 2015 At the very least it'd be nice to have a LHP out of the BP that can throw heat for strikes. Severely lacking that this year. Loup. Throws hard
DuckDuckGose Verified Member Posted June 28, 2015 Posted June 28, 2015 Latos maybe? If they trade Sanchez for one year of Latos my head will explode. Boyd or anyone else with mid-rotation 100% do it. Take 2 or 3 of those guys.
BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted June 28, 2015 Posted June 28, 2015 Loup. Throws hard Yup. Loup has touched 97 and Cecil 95 this year. Plenty hard for LHP out of pen. Issue (at times) has been command. Cecils' curveball is lights out but he hasn't been getting it where he wants to.
DuckDuckGose Verified Member Posted June 28, 2015 Posted June 28, 2015 Loup. Throws hard He does, missing his spots this year though.
DuckDuckGose Verified Member Posted June 28, 2015 Posted June 28, 2015 Yup. Loup has touched 97 and Cecil 95 this year. Plenty hard for LHP out of pen. Issue (at times) has been command. 100% command, they need a guy that can come in and consistently throw strikes. For whatever reason Loup and Cecil haven't been able to do it consistently this season.

Team is close to having some good depth at AAA with young controllable guys. Who knows, nothing may happen anyway.
NorthOf49 Old-Timey Member Posted June 28, 2015 Posted June 28, 2015 Why not? He has shown to be inconsistent at time but also consistent at time. The stuff is clearly there. You have shown a consistent inability to use the word 'consistent' properly.

I didn't get to watch today but if his FB is anything like Happs he has a very good shot to be a backend starter and bullpen floor. 92 touching 95. It did seem flat. He'll have to hit his spots. Didn't seem to really sink it or cut it ever, which Happ does do.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted June 28, 2015 Posted June 28, 2015 Why not? He has shown to be inconsistent at time but also consistent at time. The stuff is clearly there. lmao
BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted June 28, 2015 Posted June 28, 2015 100% command, they need a guy that can come in and consistently throw strikes. For whatever reason Loup and Cecil haven't been able to do it consistently this season. Call me crazy but I still have a lot of faith in Cecil and Loup and the best is yet to come for them in 2015. They just need to be moved down an inning and replaced with a closer (tall order I know).
DuckDuckGose Verified Member Posted June 28, 2015 Posted June 28, 2015 Why? Two months of expensive mid-rotation starter Matt Latos isn't worth several years of cheap control of multiple useful young arms. I'd be interested in Latos but the price can't be much more than a future middle reliever guy and middling rookie ball prospect. No need to stockpile replacement level players, they can add them in the off-season if needed. The Jays need a couple arms to get them over the hump and the opportunity cost of missing the playoffs is greater than the value of the assets (i'm talking real back end guys that you wont miss). If Boyd + Copeland + Labourt gets you Latos they should jump at it and hopefully resign him to a decent deal.

Thank you! Seems like he has the control to make it work.. If that last start is any indication he'll need to keep it down in the zone to be effective at the MLB level. All 3 of those homers came off meatballs (at least from the pitch F/X data)

A true closer would solve a lot of the problems but unless Chapman is coming this way I don't see any of those guys on the market.

DuckDuckGose Verified Member Posted June 28, 2015 Posted June 28, 2015 Got to get them thinking down first though. Then blow it by them! Really though I think the best thing for any lefty is to watch Mark Buehrle every day.
Atothe Old-Timey Member Posted June 28, 2015 Posted June 28, 2015 I could see trading Labourt for Latos (control problems) but Boyd and Copeland are not the same. One is useful and the other isn't. I still really believe Labourt will turn it around and explode like Norris did last year. May not be this year but still believe
