NorthOf49 Old-Timey Member Posted June 27, 2015 Posted June 27, 2015 You can keep him if you want, he just has more value to teams with big parks and good outfield defenses. The Blue Jays outfield defense is fine and the park won't have a major impact on his value. If Matt Boyd can continue to strike batters out an an above average clip while limiting free passes, he'll be very valuable to any club, including the Blue Jays.

He hasn't struck a single mlb batter out yet. But here's to rooting for him
IronLadle Verified Member Posted June 27, 2015 Posted June 27, 2015 well, that's one more guy I wouldn't trade for a rental
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted June 27, 2015 Posted June 27, 2015 well, that's one more guy I wouldn't trade for a rental Boyd isn't our best pitching prospect. He should definitely be in rental deals.

Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted June 27, 2015 Author Posted June 27, 2015 Mark Rzep debut: 6IP, 2H, 4 walks, 7 K's Matt Boyd debut: 6.2IP, 9 H, 3 HR, 7 K's
JFD Old-Timey Member Posted June 27, 2015 Posted June 27, 2015 good debut but his arsenal is weak. throws a lot of meatballs that will get crushed in this division. use him as trade bait.
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted June 27, 2015 Posted June 27, 2015 Positive: -Looks like he can go for the strikeout and has good control Negatives: -Doesn't seem to handle lefties well -Longball seems to be an issue -Curveball can be flat at times I think he can be a decent 5th starter and a BP piece. Conclusion: trade fodder
Laika Community Moderator Posted June 27, 2015 Posted June 27, 2015 Certainly good enough stuff to earn a few more starts. He reminds me of Happ, a little bit. Throws more breaking balls and has better command though (this doesn't mean he'll be as good as Happ or better). I definitely think he's a big leaguer starter.

Laika Community Moderator Posted June 27, 2015 Posted June 27, 2015 On another team They just gave Scott Copeland three starts, lol. I felt almost #blessed watching Boyd today.
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted June 27, 2015 Posted June 27, 2015 I don't disagree with Law. The "stuff" didn't impress me. Well he did locate his fastball and his slider (I believe) had good tilt on it. So he can be a valuable BP guy I think. Do I take him over Sanchez? Probably not.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted June 27, 2015 Author Posted June 27, 2015 At least, he was better than Nolin
o2cui2i Community Moderator Posted June 27, 2015 Posted June 27, 2015 They just gave Scott Copeland three starts, lol. I felt almost #blessed watching Boyd today. Copeland sure set the bar pretty low. Boyd only had a few "bad" mistakes and he also made some hitters look pretty bad. for a first ever MLB start he was pretty solid.
Swervin81 Verified Member Posted June 27, 2015 Posted June 27, 2015 Mediocre debut. Apart from giving up Hr's to the 8 and 9 hitters, he wasn't that bad. I don't see him as more than a 4th starter, and that's a big maybe.
Laika Community Moderator Posted June 27, 2015 Posted June 27, 2015 Cole Hamels' avg fastball in his career is 91.1 mph, fyi. Boyd has plenty of velo from the left side. With his command (stat scouting), his fastball is probably a 60 grade pitch.
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted June 27, 2015 Posted June 27, 2015 Left a few fastballs up that happened to get hit. DaMN right I hope they give him more starts

Daniel Labude Jays Centre Contributor Posted June 27, 2015 Posted June 27, 2015 He touch 96 today, for a lefty that is 70 rate. After the 2nd inning he was topping out at 91/92 though
