Not giving a f*** about the cash.
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted March 11, 2015 Author Posted March 11, 2015 Guys, it's possible Stroman can be pitching in September. __ http://www.nytimes.com/2012/05/05/sports/baseball/positive-signs-for-mariano-riveras-return-from-torn-acl.html?_r=0 The Brewers right-hander Yovani Gallardo was 22 when he tore his right A.C.L. covering first base on May 1, 2008. Gallardo said he was told he would miss the rest of the season. Yet with Milwaukee pushing for the playoffs, he returned that Sept. 25, and started Game 1 of the National League division series. He said he did not do extra work beyond his regular rehabilitation. “I kind of surprised myself, that I was able to return and make starts,” Gallardo said. “The training staff did a great job. I don’t think I had enough energy to double up on everything; the rehab is really tough. You’ve just got to go get it done.” __ Gallardo tore his May 1st. That's a month into the season and 2 months later than Stroman's. Stroman could conceivably come back earlier than September.

I don't know how much of a role that might play in rehabbing a torn ACL, but even I thought it was a bit of a stretch to prematurely declare that Stroman will be out for the whole season off a March injury. All they can do is prepare the rotation and their depth as well as they can, and hope he gets back sooner as a pleasant bonus.
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted March 11, 2015 Posted March 11, 2015 A torn ACL usually takes 6-9 months to fully rehab, with some guys coming back even sooner than that, and others taking longer. Jerry Rice came back from a torn ACL in 3.5 months and then fractured his knee in his first game. It's pretty much up to Stroman to not push himself too hard and to get a full and proper recovery. Seeing him back by August is not out of the realm of possibility.
Zaun of the Dead Verified Member Posted March 11, 2015 Posted March 11, 2015 Yeah I don't know if that could be the case here. our medical staff isn't exactly elite.

There really is no any special remedy for this or all training staffs would be doing it.

He may not return to games until next week. #BlueJays I know injuries are part of baseball, but the Blue Jays seem to have a lot of injuries. Starting to think the Jays' training staff has no idea what they're doing. Time to get rid of Poulis he has been here for as long as I can remember. http://i62.tinypic.com/177036.jpg http://i59.tinypic.com/30aax37.jpg

Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted March 11, 2015 Posted March 11, 2015 All huge losses, but you're making a huge mistake. Stroman was the team's ace, losing him pushes everyone up the depth chart and creates a potentially scary situation with your bottom two starters. Additionally, you're not replacing him with Norris/Sanchez. One was already essentially a lock to make the rotation as it stood. So let's say that was Norris, then you're replacing your ace with a prospect who hasn't really performed exceptionally well as a starter in the minors at all, and could very well implode up here, leaving you with Norris/Estrada as your 4 & 5. Ace ----> Unproven (and downright scary) Sanchez/Scrub Estrada is the biggest loss to this team without a doubt. Your comparisons are invalid kiddo. Bautista 5 Wins out ----> Pillar 1 Win in Donaldson 5 Wins out ----> Valencia 1 win in Martin 5 Wins out ----> Navarro 2 Wins in Stroman 4 Wins out ----> Norris 1.5 Wins in

GD Old-Timey Member Posted March 11, 2015 Posted March 11, 2015 Fixed And Stroman isn't 4 wins out, either (most likely)
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted March 11, 2015 Posted March 11, 2015 Seeing how young Stroman is and how hard he trains I think he can come back later this season. Obviously the Jays are going to say he is out for the rest of the season to not create false optimism and pressure on the player. If the Jays are in the race you hope he can come back late in September. Sucks it was his left leg instead of his right though especially with the amount of force he uses landing on the plant leg.
CrackerJack Verified Member Posted March 11, 2015 Posted March 11, 2015 (edited) alls I know is that there's no juggernaut in our division plus there's quite a bit of parity throughout our league, and so it's reasonable to believe that the Jays can stay in the thick of it (at least the wildcard race) until mid-summer ... at which point I think AA/Beeston will make a splash at the trade deadline to (a) try to save Alex's job and ( try to give Paul one last hurrah. Severity of the tear is a big factor in determining recovery time, sometimes with clean tears it reduces the amount of reconstructive surgery, speeding up recovery. They really won't know until surgery.

If it's torn at all that surgery is required they will replace the ACL with a graft either from a tendon from his body or a cadavers

Bautista ----> Pillar Donaldson ----> Valencia Martin ----> Navarro Stroman ----> Norris/Sanchez Three position players who are replaced by junk. A pitcher that is replaced by a top prospect. What's the biggest delta, kiddo? Sure, when you say it everyone praises the smart NJH, when I say it no one blinks an eye.
