So 16 pages later - have we actually signed this guy or what? Looks like a lot of talk for a guy who will wind up with another team.

No. In all honestly it's probably just Boras leaking fake Blue Jays interest to the Japanese media in order to increase Toritani's leverage.

Maybe all Toritani wants is more money from his NPB team so he hired Boras to fake legitimate interest to cross the ocean.

He's a pitcher writing a blog. This is brilliant analysis compared to what most pitchers would write

Sorry didn't mean to undermine the whole article.

Tortiani deciding this week between the Padres and the Jays

And Hanshin.

Hopefully Mauro Gomez sold him on how great Buffalo is...

A guy on a DJF comments thread said that it "sounds like" Tori's decision will be made today (December 15). Not sure if the guy deduced that because he understood Japanese, or if he picked it up based on the shoddy translation, which can't really be counted on.

Well this tweet is less than inspiring.

Looking at their numbers when they were both in the Japanese league 2010 & 2011 Kawasaki was really only better at base stealing.

I hope we get him.

San Diego is a nice warm place on the ocean..... hope he doesn't like the heat. lol

Have watched him play. Gotta love those illegal 5am streams of Japanese baseball. I think he'll be solid. 3yr/10 sounds like a reasonable price. Even if his stats translate 80%.

Toritani decision soon. Offers likely 1 year plus option

Stoeten

Takashi Toritani is expected to give the Hanshin Tigers his final decision during their next meeting. He is said to be talking to the Toronto Blue Jays and San Diego Padres. Both teams might be willing to sign him to an MLB contract, but neither will likely go more than a year with a team option. Source: Sanspo 12/15/2014

Well that’s certainly not the three-year, $10-million deal that earlier reports out of Japan were saying would be required to pry him away from Hanshin — where, as I noted in a post on Saturday, his salary was ¥300-million, which works out to a little over $2.5-million US dollars.

I would be very pleased if we could get him for 1 year, 3/4 million with a team option. Allows us a stopgap at 2B while Travis develops, and if Toritani ends up being good then we can pick up the option. Win win imo.

1 year sounds exactly like the Blue Jays.

AA just ask the guy if, while on a one year contract in a brand new league and country, he'd rather play in an offensive environment or in a park where offense goes to die?

On the flip side, would he rather play in a place with beautiful beaches and weather, or a frozen winter hell?

Jk, but who knows what his agent is saying.

I know you're joking...but Toronto summer weather is pretty sweet. No ball players stay here over the winter.
