Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2014 Posted December 9, 2014 Sounds like a blessing in disguise #RobotUmpiresPLEASE Can we wait until Martin's contract runs out before they implement this?
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted December 10, 2014 Posted December 10, 2014 To say the general WAR guidelines is the same regardless of position is wrong. A 2 WAR 2B may not be evaluated the same as a 2 WAR 3B, for example. Their market value may vary by position and as would the mean WAR. I'm surprised GD wasn't all over this. Positional scarcity is adjusted for. "A win is a win is a win."
TheHurl Site Manager Posted December 10, 2014 Posted December 10, 2014 CJ Edwards isn't that great or anything. Maybe Tseng and Pierce Johnson. Also, can we stop posting Cotillo rumours as news? Thanks. I'm sure they have some reasons to be optimistic about how his game will translate, but expecting Travis to put up 2 WAR is absolutely nuts IMO. In reality nobody has too much of a clue how useful he will be- possibly a little above 2 WAR (great case), and possibly quite negative. Does anyone else not understand how that's his projection? http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/instagraphs/every-prospect-with-kyle-seagers-same-profile/

dineke Old-Timey Member Posted December 10, 2014 Posted December 10, 2014 AA priorities on display Also BNS not funny So we're getting a reliever from Mexico? Who can it be?

Shark traded to CWS for Semien, Chris Bassitt, Josh Phegley and Rangel Ravelo. Miguel Montero traded to Cubs for two young pitchers (Zack Godley and Jeferson Mejia). Robertson signs with CWS for 4/46. The Padres REALLY want Matt Kemp.

And the Dodgers really want to get out of those bad OF contracts, even if they give up Matt Kemp. They need to trim payroll..

jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted December 10, 2014 Posted December 10, 2014 Watch Ben Cherington absolutely panic soon.. and BTW, he won't be getting Hamels anytime soon, as the Phillies are not interesting in trading him and prefer to build around him.. say goodbye to Betts and many other Red Sox prospects within days after Lester does this:

Nox Verified Member Posted December 10, 2014 Posted December 10, 2014 seriously..what's the hold up with Lester..just f***ing sign somewhere already. Yea, he should totally be flippant with the biggest financial decision of his life. What a prick.
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted December 10, 2014 Posted December 10, 2014 Yea, he should totally be flippant with the biggest financial decision of his life. What a prick. please...they've said his signing is imminent and he could sign tonight for three straight days. He knows the players, the numbers are there.....the difference between 150 and 160 after tax will have a minimal effect on his quality of life. The reality is choosing the highest offer and being miserable for the next 6 years vs taking less money and going where you're going to be happiest is ridiculous, but ego gets in the way. We've already seen AJ Burnett choose happiness over money to the tune of 4 mil over 1 year.

Just because these players make large salaries does not mean they should be idiotic and throw away millions by acting rash. Lester knows he will get paid, so why wouldn't he take his time and find the best fit? If it means more money than good for him.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted December 10, 2014 Posted December 10, 2014 $10 million is a big difference lol.
Chappy Community Moderator Posted December 10, 2014 Posted December 10, 2014 $10 million is a big difference lol. But he makes so much, wah wah wah......
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted December 10, 2014 Posted December 10, 2014 $10 million is a big difference lol. 10 mil after tax is 5 mil in your pocket. I get why it's taking so long, but it's annoying. I suspect he's got the offer he wants, he's just waiting for the team he wants to play for to match it. I'm just saying if I was in that position, I wouldn't take the highest offer. I'd play where I was going to be happy. AJ had a 12.75 mil player option to play with philly and declined to sign and play for 4.25 million less in Pittsburgh where he will be happy.
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted December 10, 2014 Posted December 10, 2014 Gordon Wittenmyer @GDubCub ML exec with ties to at least one team in bidding believes Lester leaning toward Giants. Looks increasingly likely Boston's gonna miss out... guess Lester is still pissed off at Sox ownership over the low-ball offer last year for an extension.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted December 10, 2014 Posted December 10, 2014 I want the Red Sox to suck it but I don't dare say it yet

TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted December 10, 2014 Author Posted December 10, 2014 Giants are out on Lester. Looks like its down to Cubs and Red Sox, barring any last minute "mystery team" shenanigans.

glory Old-Timey Member Posted December 10, 2014 Posted December 10, 2014 Yeah, Lester is going to go back to Boston. I don't know why he is dragging it out for so long. It's not a mystery. Maybe just trying to extract an extra couple of mil. If he goes to the Cubs, I'd be shocked.
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted December 10, 2014 Posted December 10, 2014 I want him to go to the Cubs
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted December 10, 2014 Posted December 10, 2014 If Lester goes to the Sox, Jays have a lineup that kills LHP. IT obviously makes the Sox better but JAys matchup well against him.
Westfan Verified Member Posted December 10, 2014 Posted December 10, 2014 I want the Cubs to win this one. It will force Boston to dig deeper. Might have to trade a ton of prospects

Im pretty sure that he'll get it. Boras usually gets what he wants. Look at Fielder, nobody thought he would get 200 but he did.
