G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted August 1, 2014 Posted August 1, 2014 Seems inevitable now They didn't add a starter (yet) He's looked great out of the pen. Seems unlikely to be demoted the way Stroman was. Happ is a fringe starter anyway and has been decent but was the one who would have been bumped had we acquired Lester or Price (I presume) Hutch has been teetering on the verge of a 15 or 30 day DL stint if you ask me Think they do it? And if so, how soon.
deekman81 Verified Member Posted August 1, 2014 Posted August 1, 2014 I think it might be time for Hutch to skip a start. He looks like he is really wearing down. I would suspect that Sanchez gets that spot start.
intentional wok Old-Timey Member Posted August 1, 2014 Posted August 1, 2014 Hutch, absolutely, if only for a couple of weeks. He's running on fumes and a DL stint for rest could be very helpful.
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted August 1, 2014 Posted August 1, 2014 I can't find the link now, but someone tweeted yesterday that AA says that Stroman and Sanchez have an innings limit of 180 (rather than the <140 speculated before) I'm too lazy to look up the MILB+MLB figures now, but I guess if you looked you can gauge where both would end up (don't forget probably 3-4 post season starts as well) As for who, I think it's clearly Hutchison. Happ hasn't done anything lately to deserve a demotion. Hutch could use a breather in the minors
pickoff22 Verified Member Posted August 1, 2014 Posted August 1, 2014 They've said that Sanchez only had 30 innings left when they called him up. So I don't think starting is an option

Hutch could use a breather in the minors Even though I always hold my breath with Happ, I agree he's been solid enough. I don't think Buffalo is what Hutch needs; just a bench and two weeks to relax.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted August 1, 2014 Posted August 1, 2014 Did GSnarls have a minor stroke writing the title? Anywho, he already jinxed it, so it doesn't matter.
Freeman50 Verified Member Posted August 1, 2014 Posted August 1, 2014 How long before they start giving Sanchez starstartsts, and whose spot does he take? Did you have an aneurysm as you were writing starts?
dineke Old-Timey Member Posted August 1, 2014 Posted August 1, 2014 They've said that Sanchez only had 30 innings left when they called him up. No they haven't.
pickoff22 Verified Member Posted August 1, 2014 Posted August 1, 2014 No they haven't. "Sure, it’s tempting," manager John Gibbons said. "But he’s got about 30 innings and we don’t want to use all that up in a week."
Sammy225 Old-Timey Member Posted August 1, 2014 Posted August 1, 2014 I think they may give Sanchez spot starts to give guys like hutch and stroman (who i assume they would not want to push to hard) a extra day off. We will see. He is pushing the envelop a little bit with how dominant he has been out of the pen.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted August 1, 2014 Posted August 1, 2014 Think they do it? And if so, how soon. No and not necessarily ever. As crazy as it sounds I think it's more likely he becomes a closer then a starter this point. In the time it takes demote Sanchez, stretch him out and call him back, Nolin will be ready and synched up with Hutch so that will take of the need for another is a replacement is needed for Hutch. As for Sanches, the situation with him and Stroman reminds me a lot of when Jansen and Marcum came up. They were both starter prospects who were assigned to the bullpen at the same but Janssen found success and Marcum gave up a lot of homers. JPR was going to move Jansen back to the roation and Gibby told him he was too valuable in the bullpen and to move Marcum instead. Marcum established himself as a starter and Janssen never left the bullpen. Given AA's reliever fetish, I think history is going to repeat itself here. It's fail as a reliever (in a small non-representative sample) and become a valuable starter instead of the other way around. Sanchez may very well be the 2015 closer. Heck, he might even be the 2014 closer by the end of the season depending on how things play out.
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted August 1, 2014 Posted August 1, 2014 I don't believe in Sanchez spot starting. He'll have to go down to Buffalo to build up his arm again, which would waste another 2 outings and probably 10 innings. If you're going to go in with Sanchez, go all in for the rest of the season.
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted August 1, 2014 Posted August 1, 2014 Did GSnarls have a minor stroke writing the title? Anywho, he already jinxed it, so it doesn't matter. LOL. Stole the exact words I was going to write. +1.

Happ hasn't done anything lately to deserve a demotion. Hutch could use a breather in the minors AA said on Tim and Sid that Stroman has no innings limit due to all the innings he pitched during his 50 game suspension. He pitched 50 or 60 innings in that stretch that aren't on his stat sheet. Sanchez will remain in the bullpen.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted August 1, 2014 Author Posted August 1, 2014 Did you have an aneurysm as you were writing starts? Seems that way Also.long thread title on small phone screen
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted August 1, 2014 Author Posted August 1, 2014 How many weeks since his last start in Buffalo? Does he really need to go back to be stretched out or.would Gibby let him go 4-5 innings per start for a week or so.then try to keep.him in longer? Also what is source for the 30 innings left??
Daniel Labude Jays Centre Contributor Posted August 1, 2014 Posted August 1, 2014 They've said that Sanchez only had 30 innings left when they called him up. So I don't think starting is an option They just used 6 1/3 inning in a week, so I doubt 30 is a hard limit.
dineke Old-Timey Member Posted August 1, 2014 Posted August 1, 2014 "Sure, it’s tempting," manager John Gibbons said. "But he’s got about 30 innings and we don’t want to use all that up in a week." Gibbons talks out of his ass all the time, AA just said yesterday there isn't a hard limit on Sanchez.
Daniel Labude Jays Centre Contributor Posted August 1, 2014 Posted August 1, 2014 I actually think Norris could get a spot start or two.
BlueJaysGirl Verified Member Posted August 1, 2014 Posted August 1, 2014 Hutch, absolutely, if only for a couple of weeks. He's running on fumes and a DL stint for rest could be very helpful. I think that will happen almost for sure, a 15-day stint, or maybe they space his starts out to every 6th start. When was the last time he pitched this much prior to his TJ surgery?
shortstop Verified Member Posted August 1, 2014 Posted August 1, 2014 perhaps throw in Redmond & Jenkins to follow for a game or two...or vice versa... Redmond has kept the jays in games when he's pitched
reedjohnsonfan Verified Member Posted August 1, 2014 Posted August 1, 2014 They're going to keep him as a 1-2 inning reliever and that is ok. Redmond gets the start if anyone goes down. Sanchez is a fun guy to watch but you can see how he's prone to losing his control, he lost it for a few pitches last night but rebounded nicely. Still he seems to be a better 7th-8th inning options than the other guys.
eastcoastjaysfan Old-Timey Member Posted August 1, 2014 Posted August 1, 2014 Right now I would DL Hutch and give Redmond a few spot starts. Hutch is gassed.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted August 1, 2014 Posted August 1, 2014 Right now I would DL Hutch and give Redmond a few spot starts. Hutch is gassed. Yeah or they could just swap their roles. Redmond has looked pretty good. Right now I think he has a better chance to get through 5 or 6 innings than Hutch does. Move Hutch to the bullpen where he could be more effective in 1 to 2 innings and give his arm a rest.
Freeman50 Verified Member Posted August 1, 2014 Posted August 1, 2014 Right now I would DL Hutch and give Redmond a few spot starts. Hutch is gassed. Agreed, this needs to be seriously considered.
Sammy225 Old-Timey Member Posted August 1, 2014 Posted August 1, 2014 Right now I would DL Hutch and give Redmond a few spot starts. Hutch is gassed. Nothing wrong with putting him on the 15 day DL and let him recover. Long term we need him and he will be very important to us.
Chappy Community Moderator Posted August 1, 2014 Posted August 1, 2014 Redmond FTW. Sanchez can cover the long man role and Hutch should get 15 days rest on the DL. We will need him later in the season.
Fearthedoc Verified Member Posted August 1, 2014 Posted August 1, 2014 (don't forget probably 3-4 post season starts as well) God I hope this is the case.
