jb22 Verified Member Posted August 1, 2014 Posted August 1, 2014 There might not be a hard limit, but if it was conveyed that Sanchez only has 30 or so innings left, they aren't going to deviate from that too much. Switching him to a starter role again would blow that approximate limit out of the water ... and it's unlikely they'll deviate from their plan to that extent. Sanchez will be a reliever from here on out, this year. Well AA was just on the radio yesterday saying they'd have no problem taking Stroman or Sanchez to 140 or even 160 if the need arose (paraphrasing).
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted August 1, 2014 Posted August 1, 2014 Redmond FTW. Sanchez can cover the long man role and Hutch should get 15 days rest on the DL. We will need him later in the season. I remember crying for his DFA. I think it was two months ago where he was utter s*** and kept giving hits left and right.

Atothe Old-Timey Member Posted August 1, 2014 Posted August 1, 2014 Or we could swap out Hutch for Nolin for a start or two
kcjaysfan Verified Member Posted August 1, 2014 Posted August 1, 2014 I'm too lazy to look up the MILB+MLB figures now Including his appearance last night, he's sitting at 106.2 innings pitched.
eastcoastjaysfan Old-Timey Member Posted August 1, 2014 Posted August 1, 2014 Not sure why you guys want to DL a healthy pitcher. Send him to Triple-A continue to have him work as a starter and bring him back up in September to pitch out of the pen. You want him to keep building up innings so he will be stronger for next season. I honestly can't remember the last time I agreed with you on anything. Hutch is clearly gassed. If you can't see this then I have no idea what to say to you. Everything is flat.
eastcoastjaysfan Old-Timey Member Posted August 1, 2014 Posted August 1, 2014 I'd keep trotting Hutch out there. He hasn't been as effective as he was in April and May, but I still think he's a decent starter. It's not like his velocity is dropping or his release point has lowered from fatigue. He's allowed almost two baserunners per inning over his last five starts!

Definitely agree that it's too early to call on Hutch. These recent starts don't mean much in and of themselves but they have served as a reminder of where this guy is coming from. He wasn't really pencilled in for anything in the offseason and now he's being ridden pretty hard. This is a guy who barely has 50 innings in the high minors for his career and he had pitched pretty much exactly the same amount of innings as that in the majors coming into this season. There really ins't any kind of track record here. It's a little bit scary but I agree that there's nothing much to be done about it at the moment except keep throwing him out there and crossing your fingers.

Based on that would you not rather protect him somewhat and increase the chances he can be effective in sep/oct?
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted August 1, 2014 Posted August 1, 2014 Flip Hutch and Sanchez for 3 starts

CJ-Freeway Old-Timey Member Posted August 1, 2014 Posted August 1, 2014 Keep Sanchez in the pen, and pray that a decent starter somewhere clears waiver before Aug 31st so that we can get him.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted August 1, 2014 Posted August 1, 2014 Don't understand people saying start Sanchez! when it is clear that he would probably only be able to throw 50 pitches his first time out anyway since hes been in the pen for a while. If you send him down to stretch him out you have to start Hutch another 2 times anyways. I think you go with Hutch for another couple starts while attempting to acquire a starter through trade waivers.
