John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted July 12, 2014 Posted July 12, 2014 Is Francisco uncoachable? I'm sure he's been told to lay off those pitches he keeps whiffing on but it doesn't seem like he's able to absorb it. I'm sure he's been told that throughout his career which is why he hasn't stuck around too long. Knowing what you have to do and doing it are two very different things. Maybe he just has a lot of trouble picking up the breaking stuff. Plus, if he's looking breaking ball, he doesnt really have the bat speed to adjust then punish a plus fastball. He's a guy that has to get out in front and hope he guesses right.
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted July 12, 2014 Posted July 12, 2014 It's MB he's been battling all game and every game. I don't see why they yanked him with the bottom of the order up especially for Jenkins of all RPs. I guess the pen is rested the break is up coming and MB will be in the ASG so maybe that played a bit in Gibbon's mind? 93 pitches, might throw 10-20 in the ASG? Maybe MB was just tiring or Gibby is playing percentages again? Maybe trying to get Jenkins a clean inning which he seems incapable of? might just want to get some guys some work with the allstar game coming..
JaysFan4Ever Verified Member Posted July 12, 2014 Posted July 12, 2014 Nope! The Big Juan is out of options. That's how we ended up with him... and why the Reds and Braves also had to part with him. That's the bad part, if they want to send him down, good chance someone plucks him off waivers for the raw power alone. Considering he kind of came out of nowhere it would be tough just to have him go on a waiver claim unless no one wants to waste the spot. But until Lawrie, Lind or someone is back he'll be here. I'd rather see them trade him, package him with someone, than just let him go on a waiver claim but the longer he struggles the less likely he'll be claimed. I just have the feeling that if he gets claimed if they try to send him back to Buffalo someone will grab him, fix his swing and it'll be a team that plays the Jays often enough for him to eat up our pitching. Of course he could continue to suck. Maybe flip him with someone for an actual 2B/3B.

intentional wok Old-Timey Member Posted July 12, 2014 Posted July 12, 2014 Juan will still hit some big homers for us before the year is out. That's my gut instinct and probably AA's as well. That doesn't mean it's the best move to keep him either. On the other hand, AA knows September expansion will let him fill the roster as he likes, so Juan's spot on the team won't be so costly. Despite what the naysayers might say, September will probably be legitimate for this team, dire though things may look.

He's a guy that has to get out in front and hope he guesses right. Good point. He might just be one of those guys who just struggles with certain pitches or just so ingrained into him that he guesses wrong sometimes. Reminds me of Snider. Guy with a lot of potential but hit the big leagues, they'll expose your weakness and if you can't adjust or keep making the mistakes you won't stick around as an every day player. Maybe Hinske is a better example since he was pretty good during his ROY season, the next year wasn't horrible, then hurt a few times, never really was the same guy after the first year and a half.
intentional wok Old-Timey Member Posted July 12, 2014 Posted July 12, 2014 The "Zim" thing the Rays are doing is nice. That guy was around for as long as I can remember watching.

If the division keeps its ups and downs that every team seems to be having and only a few games separating the teams, September could be when the division winner is made. Hopefully the Jays get healthy, and everything clicks like it did early. It seems when it rains and it pours.

The Jays can easily be kings of the mediocre, if you know what I'm saying. It's not like we're trying to catch the A's.
guylaroche5 Verified Member Posted July 12, 2014 Posted July 12, 2014 wait what, why did they replace kawasaki when we have lardo at third?

intentional wok Old-Timey Member Posted July 12, 2014 Posted July 12, 2014 These cameramen need to step it up. That's like the third terrible angle of the game.

The Jays can easily be kings of the mediocre, if you know what I'm saying. It's not like we're trying to catch the A's. It would be great to have the best record in the game, surpass the A's and such. I get disheartened when the Jays slump mostly because it feels like Groundhog Day but this year no one is really running away with the division. Tread water, stay a few games within first and get hot at the right time. Hell, I'd rather just squeak by and get into the playoffs and see what happens ie the 2006 Cardinals. 83 wins wind up winning the World Series. 21+ years of everything going wrong does harp on you but like I said, if the team can squeak in, even late September, then see what happens in the playoffs. Get hot then and see where it goes. It sucks to be 6 games up and then free fall but considering that fall and where everyone in the division is, it's not nearly as bad as it could be. Hopefully they get their s*** together, get healthy, maybe pull off a trade or two to sure a few things up and see what happens.
