Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted June 21, 2014 Posted June 21, 2014 Hurt often, diabetic, inefficient, struggles to pitch more than 5 innings, great stuff Almost identical to McGowan, except 2.5 yrs younger We've seen how McGowan has helped the bullpen Delabar may be done Should Morrow go to the bullpen on his return, replacing Delabar? If all goes well for him, he can return to starting later in year or next spring
dineke Old-Timey Member Posted June 21, 2014 Posted June 21, 2014 If they trade for a stud starter, sure.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted June 21, 2014 Posted June 21, 2014 Depends if the Jays bring in a starter like Shark or Kennedy. If not, he should be given a chance in the rotation again.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted June 21, 2014 Posted June 21, 2014 Also, its best to keep him stretched out, so he should be preparing to come back as a starter during his rehab since you never know with the other arms in the rotation if they go down.
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted June 21, 2014 Posted June 21, 2014 Can you imagine if the Jays traded for an ace and then Morrow came back at his full potential? They'd suddenly have fewer rotation spots than they'd know what to do with. Just the thought makes me giddy.
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted June 21, 2014 Posted June 21, 2014 If they trade for a stud starter, sure. There was that one start this year where Morrow came out and struck 5 of the first 6 batters throwing 97 with great depth and break to his off speed pitches. That flash of what could be. Later on that game he left a couple up that got hit out of the park, but he went 6 giving up 3 and got the win. Those first 2 or 3 innings....makes you wonder what could be. The problem is with the diabetes like McGowan, you never know how many innings you can get out of the guy..I'm still cheering for Morrow....I thought he pitched better than his numbers the first few times out and it was freaking cold the first month of the season too.

HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted June 21, 2014 Posted June 21, 2014 I have a feeling Morrow will be very, very angry and will make his displeasure known. Not that I really care that he does, but still...
Anemic0ffense Verified Member Posted June 21, 2014 Posted June 21, 2014 But his xFIP suggests he's our best starter. Diabetes means nothing.

They'd suddenly have fewer rotation spots than they'd know what to do with. Just the thought makes me giddy. I was thinking the same On the one hand, I think AA should manage the team as though he expects Brandon Morrow to never throw a pitch again. Therefore acquiring a quality SP. At the same time, the prospects of Morrow returning to form and slotting in with Buerhle, Dickey, Hutch Stroman and whoever they pick up is tantalizing. There could be 3-4 guys at any time capable of putting together stretches of #1/2 starter level performance. The cold hand becomes your swing man. DL stints are much more.manageable.
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted June 21, 2014 Posted June 21, 2014 Keep dreaming. I've got no problem doing just that. xFIP has it's place, though it goes to show you that it's not the ONLY THING in the world! That's what he means. The xFIP comment was a sarcastic, tongue-in-cheek jab at the saber guys around here.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted June 21, 2014 Posted June 21, 2014 How good does he have to be on return to make it worth picking up his 10M option for 2015? We can punt him (or dump and try to re-sign him) for a very reasonable 1M.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted June 21, 2014 Posted June 21, 2014 Extremely good... no way that option gets picked up. Yeah it's hard to imagine
mci13 Verified Member Posted June 21, 2014 Posted June 21, 2014 I think the option might get picked up. Brett Anderson got traded for a few decent pieces. Morrow is just as good has been healthier than Anderson for the past couple of years. What I would prefer is if we could flip Morrow to another team that is out of contention this year and wants to pick up his option for next year. Maybe San Diego, Texas or Arizona.
RIPEXPOS Verified Member Posted June 21, 2014 Posted June 21, 2014 100% yes. His days as a starter are done. It's funny because I remember when we traded for him, and people were basically laughing at the M's for having him in the bullpen at all...
Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted June 21, 2014 Posted June 21, 2014 100% yes. His days as a starter are done. ECJF's bullpen: Everybody.
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted June 21, 2014 Posted June 21, 2014 Extremely good... no way that option gets picked up. Extremely good? Are you kidding me? With the price of a win going up he can be worth less than 2 WAR and still be worth the 10 million, and he can easily achieve that if he stays relatively healthy.
dineke Old-Timey Member Posted June 21, 2014 Posted June 21, 2014 It's funny because I remember when we traded for him, and people were basically laughing at the M's for having him in the bullpen at all... And they were right to laugh. Morrow gave us 3 years of above average starting pitching, the experiment was a success.
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted June 21, 2014 Posted June 21, 2014 And they were right to laugh. Morrow gave us 3 years of above average starting pitching, the experiment was a success. I wouldn't call it an experiment, he's legitimately a starting pitcher.
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted June 21, 2014 Posted June 21, 2014 The Josh Johnson situation all over again. Morrow won't be a Blue Jay next year. Morrow has not had the arm troubles that Josh Johnson had. And a team option at 10 mill is much different than a QO which the player may or may not accept.
BlueJaysGirl Verified Member Posted June 21, 2014 Posted June 21, 2014 My prediction, Morrow replaces Hutchinson as SP. Hutch will either continue to regress and/or get injured. My second prediction, Jays exercise that $10M 2015 option. It's only really $9M, right? Because the buyout is $1M. So $9M more gets you a 1.5 WAR SP with some upside. No brainer.
dineke Old-Timey Member Posted June 21, 2014 Posted June 21, 2014 I wouldn't call it an experiment, he's legitimately a starting pitcher. Semantics.

Why would Morrow replace our best SP (not counting Stroman's SSS)?
BlueJaysGirl Verified Member Posted June 21, 2014 Posted June 21, 2014 Why would Morrow replace our best SP (not counting Stroman's SSS)? That's if he "continues to regress and/or get injured". I predict that will happen to Hutch.
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted June 21, 2014 Posted June 21, 2014 That's if he "continues to regress and/or get injured". I predict that will happen to Hutch. I don't see how he's regressing, he wasn't getting particularly lucky before, and he's struggled in the past two games. You never know about injury, but I wouldn't call what he's going through regression.
Chappy Community Moderator Posted June 21, 2014 Posted June 21, 2014 That's if he "continues to regress and/or get injured". I predict that will happen to Hutch. How is he regressing?
Buster Verified Member Posted June 21, 2014 Posted June 21, 2014 Wait, Morrow is diabetic also? We need some Tommy John type s*** for the pancreas over here. Stat.
