TheHurl Site Manager Posted April 3, 2014 Posted April 3, 2014 RIP: I don't sleep as it is, I couldn't keep up with that once I went back to school. It's open for others to take it over. I might add I stopped using it for productive purposes eventually
TheHurl Site Manager Posted April 3, 2014 Posted April 3, 2014 Just to be clear, we only have to show respect to NEW members right? Not you godless Mod control freak bastards? Right? Correct...now take a couple days off, you've earned it
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted April 3, 2014 Posted April 3, 2014 Couldn't agree with you more. I've stated in the past how this forum is a breeding ground for pessimism and just a generally depressing tone. Some of the more opinionated and well respected guys have their points of view and that is great because much of it is bang on, however, many other just jump on board anything they say and blindly follow them creating this cult like following. Well done on putting it far better than I've ever been able to.
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted April 3, 2014 Posted April 3, 2014 Correct...now take a couple days off, you've earned it Did you ban him? http://i.imgur.com/py2PxcN.gif
TheHurl Site Manager Posted April 3, 2014 Posted April 3, 2014 Did you ban him? http://i.imgur.com/py2PxcN.gif It was just a joke. People are allowed to take shots at mods.
AdamGreenwood Old-Timey Member Posted April 3, 2014 Posted April 3, 2014 Kind of ironic how some of the mods here were some of the worst offenders of newbie-bashing but now that it's 'their' forum, quantity is now more important than quality.
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted April 3, 2014 Posted April 3, 2014 Spanky is fine. We've had tussles. He's insulted me several times. I've insulted him. However if I say something he agrees with, he will tend to agree with me. If I say something he disagrees with he will tell me I'm dumb. I certainly don't think he is slow. Probably the opposite. He is tired of the constant negativity I think. *dumn And that's my experience with Spanky in a nutshell as well. There have been times where I've found Spanky irritating and downright incoherent, but there are other times where he makes me genuinely laugh and entertains people. One thing I can respect about him is that he doesn't tend to hold grudges (as I've seen him thank posts in agreement with the same people that he, at other times, argues with regularly), and he seems to be one of the few guys that understands that at the end of the day we're all just a bunch of guys (and girls?) sitting back and talking about baseball. It was just a joke. People are allowed to take shots at mods. I assumed as much, just the prospect itself was really funny.
admin Site Manager Posted April 3, 2014 Author Posted April 3, 2014 Kind of ironic how some of the mods here were some of the worst offenders of newbie-bashing but now that it's 'their' forum, quantity is now more important than quality. Well I did mention that in my post, and I can admit it. But I said it from the beginning, I want this to be the biggest and best Jays forum. Sure quality is always good, but variety is also good. Besides the trolls in the old forum, when people stopped posting it was a small group of people posting. The old forum was best when there was a ton of people posting, more acticity, more opinions, even if someo of them were new to baseball.
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted April 3, 2014 Posted April 3, 2014 I apologize to anyone if I ever offend them. I never have intention too. I'm not COMPLETELY sabr. What really irks me though is complete dismissal of sabermetrics because someone can't understand them. That's rare though thankfully, even Gruber doesn't do that. I like educating people and people who are open to being educated. 2 years ago, I too, used AVG and W, people on this board introduced me to further stats and I took interest and learned myself. So what you're saying is, you are indebted to this forum, and all the money that sabermetrics ever earn you will be re-distributed evenly to the BJMB community for making you the man that you are today.

By the way, I should clarify, that's BJMB = Blow Jobs for Mark Burlay, a personal fan club established circa April 2, 2014, by me. We are not a cult. We are not groupies. We are a for-profit organization created to worship the living shrine of Burlay every fifth day (it should actually be every third day, hashtag 3manrotation) until he is too old or injured to compete (so, forever), and to charge all others for doing the same.

LunchBox Verified Member Posted April 3, 2014 Posted April 3, 2014 (edited) Queen Bee TS is the real one you need to look out for. That guy and his following, the hive, are enough to get anyone to stop posting here. Stop trying to make this happen. Chappy Community Moderator Posted April 3, 2014 Posted April 3, 2014 Where are we meeting up Saturday for the game? I sent messages to Jay and Andrew. Andrew has the tickets. It looks like we are meeting before the game by the fountain at gate 5. Jay was supposed to send out a message to everyone yesterday but I think he forgot.

You have nothing to apologize for. You love numbers, and you apply them to your love of baseball. Most understand that. I started coming onto a message board, because I knew nothing about sabremetrics and that seemed the best way to learn. And I have never had any problem with anyone that uses them or applies them. I have also learned a tremendous amount. Are all these numbers and equations applicable to human beings, I am not so sure. But I really doubt there are many people out there anymore that don't appreciate their validity.

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted April 3, 2014 Posted April 3, 2014 I haven't forgot, just haven't done it yet..... http://florianjensen.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/12/procrastination.jpg
mitchf Verified Member Posted April 3, 2014 Posted April 3, 2014 My advice: Avoid discussing ERA and wins with Nox, BTS, etc. It'll go a long way for you.
Caper Verified Member Posted April 3, 2014 Posted April 3, 2014 Baseball unlike any other sport has a subset of fans that may be the worst in sports..... and that is the hardcore saber guys. Not to say they aren't right about a lot... or most things baseball. But definitely some of the bitterest douche bags you'll see routing for any sports team. I'll troll a comments section on say... ESPN... and say something like. "King Felix is good, but he doesn't win enough"..... and you should see the Venom spewing out of the nerds. You can't illicit anger like that from any other sport.
Caper Verified Member Posted April 3, 2014 Posted April 3, 2014 and btw..... Have you ever talked Jays with your friends that aren't hardcore... in fact.... I'm the only hardcore fan of anyone I know.... There are guys that watch a game once or twice a week, but they can't name even 2 of the farm teams. Those people like ball... like talking ball with me.... But they all liked JPA or didn't know what OPS was. Those people would get trounced here...... and that's not really fair.
fatcowxlive Old-Timey Member Posted April 3, 2014 Posted April 3, 2014 We may see an influx of new members over the new few weeks, please treat them with respect, no matter how much you may disagree with their opinon or topic of choice. If we get off to a good start, you can expect it even more. We want this site to grow, and it has the potential to be a lot bigger than it is right now. I think a lot of new members get turned off, or afraid to post, and end up leaving, and it shouldn't be like that. There are going to be new baseball fans. There are going to be people new to message boards. We'll have young teens, and we'll have older fans. We'll have fans that have never heard of WAR or other saber stats before. We get in the gang mentality where one guy might jump on someone for something, and everyone else jumps in. Then Spanky gets involed. Please just try to show people some respect, I'd love to see this place doubl in size by the end of this season. Thank you for this post, I cringe a lot seeing usual members railing on new members
Ehh Verified Member Posted April 3, 2014 Posted April 3, 2014 yep exactly ts, i've personally been attacked and assaulted on this site. One guy threatened to fly to my house 6 provinces away because I told him Ryan Goins is a not a MLB calbire player
fatcowxlive Old-Timey Member Posted April 3, 2014 Posted April 3, 2014 I have already offered to run the twitter account. It can be a few guys. No idea why nobody is choosing to do anything with this. Same here! I'm on Twitter literally 24/7 (check my tweet history) and I'd love to promote stuff/interact with other people related to the Jays.
