Sign: Ubaldo Jimenez Acquire: Nick Franklin Trade: Sergio Santos I'm really, really close with my guess Sign: Ubaldo Jimenez Acquire: Dustin Ackley Trade: Casey Janssen

Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted February 3, 2014 Posted February 3, 2014 Why do you guys all think AA will trade for Ackley when he has shown absolutely NO INTEREST in him. AA probably wants an established 2nd baseman that has proven he can hit.

SAAviour Verified Member Posted February 3, 2014 Posted February 3, 2014 I think there are too many relievers left on the market to get any value for santos or janssen
Cooler Heads Prevail Verified Member Posted February 3, 2014 Posted February 3, 2014 Janssen does us no good now really. This is illogical, he is an effective fairly cheap reliever and not everyone in baseball can be traded to match their value on paper ( in fact, the vast majority probably can't ). One way the Jays can try to win in 2014 without damaging themselves long term is just let Rasmus and Janssen play out their contracts. Add a free agent starter and this plan is even better. And, if they don't contend, you can package them off at the break. I believe Rasmus is a long term risk at the money he may command at this point. I'd like to see some consistancy and how well he does in a more competitive situation ( eg the Jays stay in contention into August ).

saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted February 3, 2014 Posted February 3, 2014 Differnce between Santos or Delabar closing with a depth guy in the pen (Perez or Jeffress) and Janssen? Likely 0.3 WAR at most. The difference between 50 innings pitched by janssen and 50 by jeffress is probably 10 to 15 runs.....I`d rather give up 10 to 15 runs less personally...
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted February 3, 2014 Posted February 3, 2014 I'll go with the latinopost and say Jimenez! http://www.latinopost.com/articles/3748/20140203/mlb-mlb-free-agents-mlb-free-agents-2014-new-york-yankees-new-york-yankees-trade-rumors-toronto-blue-jays-ubaldo-jimenez-toronto-blue-jays-rumors-baltimore-orioles.htm

bluejaysfan Verified Member Posted February 4, 2014 Posted February 4, 2014 Sign : Ubaldo Aquire : Nothing Trade : Nothing Agreed! Lets not trade our talent like we did when we traded then unknown Michael young from our farm system for Estaban Loaiza. Young went on to have a .300 career ave. as well as be a 7 time All-Star.

z3r0s Old-Timey Member Posted February 4, 2014 Posted February 4, 2014 I really wonder what the M's are looking to get for Ackely. The bat doesn't seem to play in LF and the defense has been good at 2B in the past. He really seems like the perfect target for our 2B.

Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted February 19, 2014 Posted February 19, 2014 Does anytone else think the longer this charade continues in Seattle, the more likely it is that we get Ackley or Franklin? There's no way a defensive conscious team plays Ackley in the outfield or Franklin at shortstop.

There's no way a defensive conscious team plays Ackley in the outfield or Franklin at shortstop. Perhaps, but don't expect AA to be the one acquire one of them. He's perfectly fine with our future HOF'er Goins manning the position. Expect the Yankees to commit highway robbery, and get one of em.
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted February 19, 2014 Posted February 19, 2014 As much of a joke as the Mariners are, they were known to lean heavily on defensive metrics prior to 2013.
Smokey Verified Member Posted February 19, 2014 Posted February 19, 2014 "I don't know that we're done, we haven't stopped having dialogue... We made some changes on the staff. Second base, obviously a guy like Ryan Goins being the front-runner for the job, that's obviously a change from a year ago. And from a rotation standpoint, some of the young guys coming back, Morrow coming back.... There's still a lot of talented players. ... You believe there are some indicators that some of these players will turn it around." -The Fat Bastard
Smokey Verified Member Posted February 19, 2014 Posted February 19, 2014 Is he actually trying to frame Ryan Goins as an offseason upgrade? Yup, he has learned well from his shameless boss. From the same article... "You could look at the Red Sox last year, and they added one starter -- Ryan Dempster, who was solid for them -- but they had so many internal improvements," general manager Alex Anthopoulos said of the World Series champions. "Their rotation ERA from 2012 to '13 just completely turned around, and they only added one guy. With all due respect to Ryan, I think the turnarounds were obviously some of the guys they already had internally." Because as we all know, the 2013 Red Sox offseason = 2014 Blue Jays offseason http://m.bluejays.mlb.com/news/2014/02/05/67491220/blue-jays-enter-spring-training-healthy-and-looking-for-better-results
