I think it's big news that he is going to be hanging around Dunedin this spring... Man if he can transfer even 10% of that mental tuffness to a guy like Drabek:

Idiotic statement.. the team was probably a .500 team during his tenure.. I suppose the extra .159 was luck right?

Comparing team wins to pitcher wins is what is idiotic. 2 completely different stats, apples and oranges. What idiot decided to give them the same name?

Get him on the weighted balls.

Nah, let him ride off into the sunset. He had a great career, I don't want to watch a subpar version of Doc. He did the right thing.

Whether it's "elite" or not it's pretty much meaningless.

I don't think it means much but I also don't think it's meaningless over that large of a sample size, and considering the kind of teams he pitched for.

Sure was no Ace dealt.....:P

Hehe. So to speak. He sure used to be one. Would have been sad to see him as like 6th starter for the Jays and having a bad year in 2014. He made the right decision.

It wouldn't hurt him to try the weighted balls anyways, even if he has retired. It could help him regain some health and strength, and there's always the small chance that he suddenly gets it all back and decides to return for a victory lap the way Pettitte did. Maybe finally get himself that ring. If not, there's nothing to lose with that program. If he's coaching his kids, it's a great tool for him to become familiarized with; even Delabar's main reason for trying that program was to eventually teach it to the kids he was coaching.

I like your twisted logic here

The Jays are secretly rehabbing Halladay into a beast next year in a secret underground facility near his home. no one sees him all of 2014.

12 months from now he signs a 1 year 5 million dollar deal with the Jays and announces his unexpected return

2015 Blue Jays win the World Series with a rotation of Halladay Price Dickey Stroman and Morrow

Allow me to dream here. :)

If I'm Halladay, I think I look to stay in reasonable shape and go on the weighted ball program. Take a full year away, then come into spring next year and see where things stand. If the velocity still isn't there, it isn't there. Maybe the time away and strengthening finish off the surgery rehab though.

And with an offense that would be laughed at by the 2008 and 1996 squads with EE gone, traded for Price :)

This point here...except I do think it means much. Saying his winning percentage is meaningless because it's an old school stat that is impacted a lot by your teammates may make sense over 1 or 2 seasons...not over a full career. Freaking guys just throw out words like meaningless regardless of context just because it's not a cool baseball stat that turns walks, strikeouts and IP into a physics equation...geez.

My same thoughts. Weighted ball program, try it out for a year and see how it goes. He's a competitor and he's not so old. There is a chance he is satisfied with his career, but I think he still has some unfinished business.

The weighted ball program is great for the shoulder...but does nothing for the back....Doc's problem's were not his shoulder as much as they were his back....and back issues are not easy ones to deal with...he's retired...hopefully he can move on to a new fulfilling chapter in helping the blue jays pitchers become better pitchers....

Sad to see Halladay go, but pure class as always to retire as a Jay. He was my favourite player growing up even though we couldn't even watch Jays game at the time, I wear the number 32 when playing any sport (mainly baseball of course) because of him. Outstanding pitcher and professional, hope as well he comes back as a pitching coach and certainly wish he gets inducted into the Hall, and like many have said been one of the most dominant pitchers in your generation will go a long way towards his consideration.
