I can see some sort of position for doc with this club in the future

Oh yeah. He has "pitching coach" written all over him.

Same. Was too young to really remember the 92-93 glory years so Halladay was a hero of mine during the 2000s.

Amazing career and easily one of the classiest athletes this franchise has ever had.

I wasn't alive during the 92-93, but I was watching baseball as a kid in the mid/early 2000's, he was the poster boy for the Jays, especially when Delgado left. He's the best, what a legend. I'm glad I was alive to catch his era.

I don't think Doc will stick around as a coach. Doesn't seem like that type of guy who's addicted to the game. He's made his money. Seems like a family man. I'm pretty sure he's a Mormon too so he'll probably be spending time working with the church in some capacity.

He's not a mormon anymore.

Love it.

One day contract so he can retire as a Blue Jay.

Think Beeston played hardball on the $$? LOL

It was a 1 hour contract with a club option for a second hour. The club doesn't give out more than a 5 hour one day contract. Club policy.

Yeah and he's a very soft-spoken guy. I can't see him delegating at all.

At the most I can see him as a roving coach or a guy that sticks around in ST helping the kids.

A big chapter of my baseball memories has just been closed..

Now AA make some new ones and do something useful this offseason

This is so sad... I feel like crying man. I was 9 when he debuted and had that near no-hitter in his first season. I can't believe 15 years has gone by just like that.

I guess I'll have to rename my account to Fearthedrabek.

I bet Halladay gets into the Hall (and I think he should), but there is a case against him. Kevin Brown was just as good/better but in 2011 didn't even get the 5% needed to stay on the ballot.

It seems like the way he carried himself elevates what people think of him as a player, rightly or wrongly.

Brown was the guy most hated by journalists. Halladay is a gentleman.

I will say, Doc was absolutely dominant when he was on top. Only guy in the same conversation as him during his period of dominance was Johan Santana and he didn't do it as long as Halladay. Something that I can't stand is guys who hang around forever being average to above average for a long time and getting consideration. IMO Halladay was the best pitcher of his era and that's enough for him to be an easy choice for me.

I'd think milestones come into a players mind, as well as significant injuries not stopping a player cold like Halladay, but the gradual erosion of skills and not recognizing it.

Brown has a higher career WAR then Halladay

Yep. Threw more innings/seasons and retired with nearly identical ERA- and FIP- numbers to Halladay. Brown would definitely look better if you took out 2004 and 2005 when he stuck around and tanked his ratios (ERA would be 3.16, not 3.28). This is more of a commentary on Brown though -- I believe both should be in (so comparison isn't a knock on Halladay).

Exactly. The level of reverence for Halladay in Toronto is off-the-charts. And while he wasn't the classic clubhouse guy journalists love, they respected him as much as we did.

There's really no other way to describe it. Everyone knows that they haven't made the playoffs in two decades, but that fact really hits home when a franchise legend doesn't even see a single playoff game.

2006-2008 was probably our best chance at qualifying for the playoffs with him on the roster. Honestly that 2008 season should have been it. It's really too bad when you think about it.

Bitterweet day. Sad to see him retire, but happy he chose to do it as a Blue Jay. :D That makes me happy.

No matter what sad state this franchise is in, the Jays will no always have Roy Halladay. :)

Seems like AA is giving him a chance to do FO or coaching type work. Start him off doing random s*** in ST and just observing right now like a fly on the wall.
