Yup. The funny thing is, being a vegetarian can be even worse for you if all you eat is fried foods.

Not true:

But don't worry. Dad will get a couple of coneys. Contrary to popular belief, Fielder is not a vegetarian, and he wanted to dispel that notion right away.

"Let's do this now," he said. "I'm not a vegetarian. Let's just do that. Let's just knock that out. Just write it down.

Do we really have any bad contracts? Maybe Reyes', but his is only for 5 more years. That Pujols contract is going to look bad, maybe even worse then A-rods.

Not really. Well no crippling ones.

Reyes and Buerhle are paid above market value but none are crippling crazy long term deals.

And with the way SP salaries are going, even Buerhle's isn't THAT bad

The one you'd like to dump most is Romero cause... Well because he's Ricky Romero

Well this explains it then.

I used to like Fielder but now I'm not so sure...

Not because of this comment, but just... meh

Buerhle's is actually alright. You can't get a more consistant pitcher then him, you know you're gonna get 200 innings from him.

He is a less interesting case now that we know he isn't a vegetarian.

If the Mariners win only 1 world series and are fairly competitive for the next 10 years - then this contract is easily worth it for them.

I haven't seen any 6 and above year contracts to a FA switching teams that I would want the Jays to have done, so its hard to say the 5 year limit is dumb. I think they are reserving those type of contracts to home grown franchise players and I agree with them. So far the Jays haven't had anyone worth that kind of contract. If Lawrie develops into a Longoria level 3b you might see an exception to the rule.

I agree. In most cases, contracts longer than five years end up being something teams regret.

You messed that right up. PM for future references. :)

What happens if a team buys multiple free agents that had a qualified offer? They can't lose more than 1 first round pick... Are they going to lose 1st, 2nd, 3rd... round picks?
Posted
Yup, or if they get awarded a comp pick for one of their qualified FAs signing elsewhere they'd lose it instead of second round. At least that's my understanding.
Posted
Yes, in order of talent first, why, do you think the Yanks will do it?

They already have, Ellsbury and McCann were both qualified FAs. GRanderson was too but the mets first round pick was protected so the mets would lose this second round pick, and the Yankees would gain a 1st round comp pick.

So far though, since the Yankees have signed 2 qualifying FAs, the would lose their first rounder and their first round comp pick, while keeping their second rounder, unless of course they sign another qualified FA, in which case they'd lose that too.

Heh, I figured as much. Good for the Pinstripes, they want to win.

They do want to win, but team still needs work.

With Beltran out of the picture, I'm expecting the Mariners to go hard after Choo or Cruz.

Or resign Morales? Maybe take a chance with hart?

im with u. not saying cano's signin led me to believe this, but the further we go into the offseason without any significant rumour or trade, the more likely the team is going to stand pat

This makes a lot of sense.

That feeling in your stomach when you realize AA was being serious about being confident with Ryan Goins and Macier Izturis at second ................

Robinson Cano isn't the only second base--- you know what, forget it.

I don't think Reyes' contract is that bad. The Marlins were probably just being douchebags when they backloaded the contract (I wouldn't give them credit for thinking ahead), but it actually helps out because by the time his pay spikes, his salary won't be considered much in the new market. Hell, I don't even think Buehrle's is that bad.

If they do sign them, They certainly could help us fill our second base hole. Actually I wouldn't mind taking a flier on Smoak either.

What the hell do you people have against Adam Lind?

What the hell is on Cano's face?

In this situation, the Yankees lost their first rounder for signing McCann, they lost their Curtis Granderson compensation pick for signing Jacoby Ellsbury, and they lost their Robinson Cano compensation pick for signing Carlos Beltran. Had they not had those compensation picks, then yes, in that event, they'd lose their second rounder (at least, I'm fairly certain).
