ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted November 24, 2013 Posted November 24, 2013 There is no way in hell we are trading one of our premium pitching prospects for a mediocre starter from the National League. AA has tunnel-vision syndrome plus his job is on the line and I don't think the Cubs will accept any package from the Jays that doesn't include Sanchez or Stroman as the centre piece.

At this point Anthopoulos should have desperation mode on. Emptying the farm for a guy like Samardzjia is something you look to do at this point...
SAAviour Verified Member Posted November 24, 2013 Posted November 24, 2013 There is no way Sanchez or stroman are involved. Please, for f*** sakes, don't betray me Alex! I still have faith....

Considering it doesn't appear he is in on any key FA right now, he is probably extremely likely to make a significant trade at some point this winter.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted November 24, 2013 Posted November 24, 2013 Would people trade Lind for Samardzija straight up ? Cubs hang up the phone with extreme prejudice.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted November 24, 2013 Posted November 24, 2013 SAMARDZIJA FOR LIND LMAO that's reminding me of Adam Lind for Joey Votto.
Daniel Labude Jays Centre Contributor Posted November 24, 2013 Posted November 24, 2013 Ugh, it's going to cost one of Sanchez or Stroman for sure. I don't see how...the guy has an era over 4...he is not a number one starter
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted November 24, 2013 Posted November 24, 2013 Come on guys, he's clearly trying to entertain us or did all of you miss the part about Matt Kemp? Lol.
jays_fever Old-Timey Member Posted November 24, 2013 Posted November 24, 2013 Gose/Lind for Samardzija/Hanigan is even worse than Samardzija straight up for Lind. The stupidity is strong with this one. Give him a break. He's to busy putting his awesome degree in whatever it is to great use

The stupidity is strong with this one. I have no problem noting that when I was shooting the s*** I forgot that Hanigan is on the Reds and that the Cubs don't need a DH.
theblujay Verified Member Posted November 24, 2013 Posted November 24, 2013 I remember when Samardzija was a WR at Notre Dame, and I've always cheered for the guy since he chose baseball over the NFL. But I am scared of bringing a pitcher over from the NL to the AL East. If we don't give up Stroman/Sanchez it might be ok, but idk...
GNick Verified Member Posted November 24, 2013 Posted November 24, 2013 Bruce Levine of ESPNChicago.com reports that the Blue Jays are "putting together a package of young players" in trade talks with the Cubs regarding Jeff Samardzija. The Cubs have discussed a multi-year contract extension with Samardzija, but they could end up deciding to deal him if they determine an extension doesn't look likely. The Nationals are also known to have interest in the right-hander. Samardzija, 28, is under team control through the 2015 season.
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted November 24, 2013 Posted November 24, 2013 We'll see what happens, but given AA's masochist tendencies, he'll probably get killed in this possible trade. I'd actually rather overpay for a risky starter in FA than give up what I think AA will end up coughing up for Samardzija.
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted November 24, 2013 Posted November 24, 2013 Bowden has a lot more tweets can't post them right now, someone else do it please AA wouldn't deny anything about Samardzija and says he has made offers to all FA starters including Garza Says they have not entertained trading Jose or ee yet AA probably offered 3 years plus an option or something like that and given that Vargas got 4 years, that wouldn't cut it. It's probably just to have an excuse for overpaying for Samardzija.
mitchf Verified Member Posted November 24, 2013 Posted November 24, 2013 A year ago I would have believed this trade could come together without giving up Stroman or Sanchez. A year later, I'm convinced it will take both. Our gm should be institutionalized if he does it, but that won't stop him.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted November 24, 2013 Posted November 24, 2013 A year later, I'm convinced it will take both. It absolutely will not.
mitchf Verified Member Posted November 24, 2013 Posted November 24, 2013 It absolutely will not. The guy doing the negotiating just gave up Synder and d'Arnaud at a time that us fans were adamant that the Mets must be either choosing between them or giving back another star. WRONG, WRONG. Our gm just happens to be absolutely mental. If Hoyer doesn't manage to get both Stroman or Sanchez, I'm sure the industry will think less of him. "How did he not get Alex to budge?"
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted November 24, 2013 Posted November 24, 2013 If we give up Sanchez for Smarjja I've gonna s*** a brick.
mitchf Verified Member Posted November 24, 2013 Posted November 24, 2013 If we give up Sanchez for Smarjja I've gonna s*** a brick. The Lansing trio was always too good to be true.
jays4life19 Old-Timey Member Posted November 24, 2013 Posted November 24, 2013 If AA openly admitted he's been talking to the Cubs about Samardzija, he's probably not close at all in inquiring him.
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted November 24, 2013 Posted November 24, 2013 I'd rather see AA overpay for Jimenez or Garza, but he'll probably trade away more of the farm.
DuckDuckGose Verified Member Posted November 24, 2013 Posted November 24, 2013 If AA openly admitted he's been talking to the Cubs about Samardzija, he's probably not close at all in inquiring him. Refused to comment on specific players. Said they have discussed every FA pitcher, made calls to most to gauge cost/interest and has been actively talking trades to fill a number of positions (including those that currently are filled and has talked to FA for a contingency plan if he were to pull the trigger). I think Samardzija is a decent target and could be had without giving up Stroman/Sanchez. I'm sure a package of Cecil/Janssen/Delabar + Nolin + Drabek/Hutch + Jimenez + Gose for Castro and Samardzija would be enticing to the Cubs. The Jays could re-sign Rajai and would still need to sign a C and backend SP (they're trading a lot of depth) at the absolute minimum.

DuckDuckGose Verified Member Posted November 24, 2013 Posted November 24, 2013 It's going to take a f***load more than that for Castro and Sam. I think it really depends how you view those pieces. If you're on the high end; closer (Cecil/Janssen/Delabar/Santos too I guess) back-end lefty with control (Nolin) mid-rotation starter with control (Hutch/Drabek) 2-3 WAR starting CF'er with control and upside (Gose) mid-to-bottom end starting C, ~1-3WAR -/+framing (Jimenez) for a 1/2 SP, who is about to get expensive and a 2-3 WAR 2B -- that's a decent haul and the pieces fit the timeline of their top prospects coming through the system.
jays4life19 Old-Timey Member Posted November 24, 2013 Posted November 24, 2013 I think Samardzija is a decent target and could be had without giving up Stroman/Sanchez. Agreed. Samardija + Free agent like a Colon or Kazmir would be a nice way to boost the rotation without blowing the budget or farm. Throw in the depth at AAA and upgrade at catcher and second base and we might be onto something. Perhaps Mark Ellis and Hanigan? D

Cubs are rebuilding, so I don't see them having any interest in Janssen. They definitely appear to need some SP though. I think to land Castro would take Sanchez or Stroman in the deal, but we may be able to put together something intriguing enough in volume to get Samardzija without.

I think they'd prefer Cecil or Delabar to Janssen but, they probably want MLB BP innings in the deal. They could have interest in Happ/Rogers/Redmond as well. Gose alone should get you Castro...
